  1. $OEM$, inside this folder create another folder $1, inside this folder create another folder, example My Downloads, inside this folder put the files that you want. So it should look like: $OEM$\$1\My Downloads. When install is complete, you will see C:\My Downloads, and all your files will be in this folder. Hope this helps.
  2. Somewhere along the way, based on what I had read here, I had decided to check the box to ’skip’ OOBE when making a new nlited CD. Don’t remember the reason why. Also, when making a new nlite CD, I always start from scratch, meaning, using my original xp pro sp1 version as a starting point. I also select fully automated unattended and nlite automatically retrieves the product key from my original source. I don’t remember where it gets it, I just know that it does. Getting more to the point, when I test the finished “ISO” in a ‘virtual box’ virtual machine, and then visit windows updates, it always asks for product activation. Tells you to go to all programs, etc. for product activation. But, it is now my understanding that if you remove “OOBE”, product activation is not listed. And its not. Therefore, in the virtual machine, I am not able to see or get any windows updates. So you would think that I have an issue and that issue could be easily resolved by not skipping OOBE. However, when I go ahead with the installation, having checked the ‘skip oobe’ box, the installation proceeds smoothly. And when I visit windows updates, I am “not” asked for product activation and I am presented with whatever updates there might be. In my case, usually just two, one for windows messenger and one for .net 1.1. So am I doing something wrong? And regarding the post sp3 updates, I had read somewhere that if you used these “sp3 beta’s”, you would not see any updates until the final rtm sp3. Yet, I have seen others post that they have been able to get some. Since I started using these sp3 beta’s I have not seen any ‘new’ updates. Actually, I would think that when the final rtm sp3 is released, it would in fact, include all these updates up to the present. So, again, am I doing something wrong? Thanks in advance for reading and any advice/suggestions you might have, Eddie LAST_SESSION.INI
  3. Just wondering. Why is there a difference between the date and size of this sp3, as posted by jhmac77, digital signatures of march 20th - 331,774,504 bytes, and the one from windows download site as posted by IcemanND, digital signatures of February 12 - 330,554,920. I'm so confused. Which to choose. Thanks in advance for any insight.
  4. New official release: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...9&SiteID=17 Have fun!!!
  5. Well, if there is an official release I would assume its ok to post: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...9&SiteID=17
  6. Maybe a little clarification is in order. You stated: I have windows xp home. OK, fine. You may have downloaded: sp3 build 5503, about 315MB exe. I seriously thought that you downloaded: windows xp pro which included sp3 build 5503. That would not be free, and it might be about 600-800MB's. If you somehow did manage to do that, then yes you are correct, you can "not" use "this": windows xp pro sp3 build 5503. Just get rid of it. You can't use it. Go somewhere on the net and find the standalone: sp3 build 5503, 315MB 'exe'. This you can integrate into your: windows xp home. Keep in mind, this is still a 'beta', it is "not" the final sp3, that is still to come out. So, you will have to do this all over again when the final comes out. Hope this helps.
  7. @nightwolf81 Thanks for looking at the details. That's what its all about. Details. Ain't that right. Anyway, as you mentioned, that was just me wanting to post a semi-clean post. I actually have a bunch of lines between most of them. And yes, I checked everyone of them in the registry afterwords to see if they actually took. Thanks again.
  8. @Speeddymon Thanks for replying. Again, I am an average user, I did revisit the ‘Tweaks section’ but I didn’t notice anything that I could have selected that I was duplicating with some of my tweaks. @DL Regarding IE6 crashes, my current understanding is this will be fixed in the ‘final’/RTM release. If so, then I will remove from my ‘tweaks.reg’. Regarding “AppTimeouts are a bit low. Thanks, increased to 2500 each. Regarding “Force DLL To Unload From Memory”, I deleted from my list, thanks. For what its worth, one of my tweaks is to ‘disable’ the ‘Dell Screen’ on initial boot by going into the bios and selecting ‘Quiet Boot’. Doing the ‘control userpasswords2’ thingy, using a registry tweak to disable the welcome screen, and using a program called ‘Bootskin’ to vary the boot screens that I see on initial boot. Kindly like one of those ‘5000’ lines of tweaks of yours. OMG. LOL. When I started this thread, I was thinking along the lines of maybe sp3 had made some of these tweaks unnecessary. Anyway, thanks for everyone’s input.
  9. Attached is a list of the registry tweaks that I currently apply with an sp3 install. Wondering if someone, more experienced then me, can offer some insight. Maybe, with sp3, some are no longer needed. I'm not a gamer so I'm not looking in that direction, just an average user looking to improve performance and or, in some cases, just appearance. I know there are a lot of registry tweaks, but these are the one's that I kind of know and half-way understand. LOL. Thanks in advance for any insight. Eddie Sorry: Forgot to attach my last session.ini PS: If I posted in the wrong forum, maybe a 'mod' can move it. LAST_SESSION.INI
  10. Yes, Shame on me. After I posted, I thought, maybe its the same script. I made some minor obvious changes, like changing the "7.0.462.0" to 7.0.470.0. Redid the routine I had done before. Uninstalled ZA, used your script to create a new switchless installer and reinstalled and everything works great. Thanks again, radix Eddie PS: I have now saved your script for future use.
  11. Maybe you can post your 'last session ini', so that someone can view and maybe lend a hand. I also selected tour for removal and it did remove it. Also running sp3 5503. Keep in mind this is a beta so things can happen. Hope this helps, Eddie
  12. @radix Zone Alarm has a new installer, http://www.filehippo.com/download_zonealarm_free/. Hoping you can make me a new 'autoit' script, without the spyblocker, please. I tried the WPI, but unfortunately it was to complicated for me. And I had a look at the RVM Integrator, but it too was to complicated for me. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  13. Thanks, when sp3 final comes out I will give it a try.
  14. When I make a new DVD I like to incorporate several of my folder’s into it. Is the following the correct procedure: $OEM$, create a “$DOCS” folder, inside this folder - create a “Administrator“ folder, inside this folder - create a “My Documents” folder, into this folder - copy “my” “My Documents” folder. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  15. In addition, in regards to sp3, have a look here: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...8&SiteID=17
  16. @ZeDMaN Found this: http://www.systemsabuse.com/2007/12/27/xp-...bar-go-missing/ Don't know if it works since I don't care for it, but reading this topic I found out how to customize / change the appearance of the toolbars so that I gained/deleted one row. I am running the latest sp3 build 3311. Hope this helps, Eddie
  17. Sorry to report ‘failure’. I originally thought that this ‘autoit’ script worked. Why? Because the way I ’usually’ test a newly made silent installer is to click on it and if it installs and installs without any ill effects you assume success. That appeared to be the case. Yesterday, I made a new ISO, and when I tested it in a virtual machine, I got the usual “pop up” that says: “Could not find Config File C:\Documents“. Once you click ‘OK’, the unattended install will continue, and Zone Alarm will install. But of course that’s not a “silent install”. I have also noticed in the past, that it sometimes messes up the ‘add & remove’ programs, it did so this time also. However, all is not lost, I can still use this ‘autoit silent installer’ and install Zone Alarm that way, post installation. It does speed up that part of the process since it makes for a basically ‘no hands’ installation of the program. Thanks for reading, Eddie PS: I also tried the 'cab' made by radix which yielded the same results.
  18. What I usually remove before using nlite and removing some more components:DOCS, DOTNETFX, VALUEADD, SUPPORT, from "i386" - LANG, WIN9XMIG, WIN9XUPG, WINNTUPG Hope this helps, Eddie
  19. Put the installer in its on folder. Use nlite addon maker. Use the following for the switches. /HIDE /DONT_START_APPS /NO_WELCOME /NO_AVGW_STARTUP /QUIT_IF_INSTALLED Good luck, eddie
  20. Can you simply download the current KB890830, use the nlite addon maker with the /quiet switch and add it to your hot fixes folder, OR, do you need to extract its two components, mrt.exe & mrtstub.exe and then use the addon maker with /quiet switch. I seem to recall that I tried doing this once before, some time back, and ’nlite’ said it was it tool and wouldn’t allow it. I tried looking for a ready made addon but couldn’t find one, though I prefer to make my on for in the future anyway. Thanks in advance for any guidance, Eddie
  21. Thanks again, Radix I downloaded your new script, uninstalled previous version, made a new silent installer and it works great. No spy blocker. Zone Alarm was the 'last', finally, of my 25 add on's. Everytime I made a new DVD, this was the only one that was still hanging. Thanks again, "GREAT JOB" Eddie
  22. Success, Thanks, Radix What I did in case anyone wants to know. 1) Using the following guide as a reference, http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1466, thanks Ricktendo64, and using your autoit script, thanks again Radix, I placed the “script” on the desktop along with the “zaZA_Setup_en.exe”. Right click on ‘script’ and click ‘compile script’. The result was the desired “exe“: “ZoneAlarm_Free_7[1].0.462.0.exe” 2) Using the following guide as a reference, http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=1978, thanks again Ricktendo64, I was able to make my silent installer. Note 1: In the ‘Bin’, I put both the “zaZA_Setup_en.exe” & “ZoneAlarm_Free7[1].0.462.0.exe” On the ‘Config.txt’, I used the following: ;!@Install@!UTF-8! GUIMode="2" RunProgram="ZoneAlarm_Free_7[1].0.462.0.exe /s /noreboot" ;!@InstallEnd@! Note 2: Where it states to ‘Create.cmd‘: upx --ultra-brute 7zsd.sfx cd Bin ..\7za a -mx=9 "..\Program.7z" * cd .. copy /b 7zsd.sfx + Config.txt + Program.7z ZoneAlarm_Free_7[1].0.462.0.exe del Program.7z 3) From here, I used the following guide as a reference, http://shark.msfn.org/files/tutorial.txt, thanks shark007, using the ‘addon’ method to make my ‘zip’ file which I will place in my ‘hot fixes’ folder when next I use nlite. It does install the ‘zone alarm spy blocker’, but I just went to add & remove and uninstalled it. Thanks again, Radix, Eddie
  23. Thanks, Radix The script works great. Thanks again. Eddie
  24. Hi Radix, I, for one, would really appreciate it if you could make an autoit script. I tried but didn't know the command's that you need to put in. I knew about 'alt yes & alt no' but that was it. And I was stopped on the first one that you had to put in a check mark. I tried using nlite addon maker, but that wouldn't install. Same result as original poster. I had used /s /noreboot. I also tried 'RunOnce', but that didn't work either. I have looked on 'Ryan's site, http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=511 and http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=274 but no luck. I guess it's one of the hard one's to make. Or, more likely, I'm just not smart enough. I would definitely give it a test for you and report back if you could make one. Thanks in advance, Eddie
  25. Is it maybe something like this that your talking about: http://www.msfn.org/board/Nlite-sp3-beta-i...336#entry721336 Hope this helps, Eddie
