  1. Where I use to work we had a WinXP CD that was built using BartPE it would allow us to require login so that people couldn't access our CDs with our tools for their own use. The image we are working with now, was built using another utility that builds a WinPE 3.0 disc that has a feature provided by one of our vendors. It feels and performs just like a basic PE disc. We have added extra applications to the disc as we needed. We are just trying to password protect the environment. @submix8c what your suggesting is that we use Winbuilder which will build basically a portable Windows 7 environment that will allow the same features of WinPE for deployment plus added things like the security options. Since the site is not loading for me at the moment. Is this utility still follow the rules and licensing of WinPE 3.0, this will only be used for clients with Windows 7 so there for the are fully legal in having a PE disc to us to use as needed on that machine.
  2. This PE environment is not going to be used for PXE or similar services. It will be booted from either a DVD or WIM via a BCD edit. To provide a proper clean environment for us to test, backup, restore a computer in the field. We are trying to prevent users from being able to boot into the environment or the disc and have full access to the machine unless we supply the credentials to login to the environment.

We have a WindowsPE image that we have built and are including it on new computers we provided to our clients so we can boot into the PE so we can access the machines remotely and image them if need be. I use to use an old BartPE that was based on XP and when booting the disc it would require a password before the environment would load. I am looking to see if anything like this available for WinPE 3.0

I use to work with nLite alot about half a year ago, and now I'm trying to help my friend out and trying to help him build a new restore CD for the computer he just built so he don't have to worry about the CD ever again or anything. I use to use alot of RyanVM's updates, WGA, and other nLite addons, but I see they are no longer up-to-date. I installed a fresh copy of XP Pro Sp2 and saw that there is a total of 125 updates (that includes IE7, WMP11, .Net Frameworks) I would like to find a new place to try to get all the update packs so I don't have to download all the old update packs I used, then use a RunOnceEX to use the switchless installers for the .Net frameworks. Also has anyone found a way to slimstream the .net Packages into an install CD, so you don't have to use the RunOnceEx and use the switches for the Microsoft Distributed Installers. And whatever happen to Boogy's WMP11 plugin, I see his slipstreamer, but should I do that before or after I start working in nLite? The basic things I'm looking to get installed are Flash Shockwave Java Runtime .Net 1.1,2.0,3.0 w/ Hotfixes WMP11 IE7 WGA WGA Notifcations Can someone help lead me the right direction again. Sucks coming back and everything is new and changed.
  5. I would like to see how most of yall get programs like: Office 2003 Frontpage 2003 Nero Ultra 6 Alcohol 120% Photoshop CS2 i would like them to install and even insert the key automatically, so they are ready to use after first install
  6. basically when we are building servers and sending them out and want to get them DCPromo'd here at the office and have to keep monitoring the system while it asks for CDs, i have already put together an unattended install CD for SBS 2003, but we would like to turn our CDs 1-4 into a single DVD so we dont have to keep switching them in and out. is there a way to do this without buying the DVD version of the software? we have our SBS discs for our company server.

I would like to add in some extra stuff to my Win XP install - Like copy over some wallpapers and folders that have self contained programs. - Set my wallpaper to a certain Photo. - Install a couple registry tweaks (like the no mouse accel) - Install over 600 extra fonts - Replace logon screen and boot screen with custom replacements. please help point me in the right direction

I have been working on doing this for a couple days now but i have been running into some issues here and there. what i would like to accomplish is getting a 1GB thumb drive that is bootable with: 1) DSL-N Linux 2) Darik's Boot & Nuke 3) Offline NT Password 4) DOS w/ NTFS Support 5) Memtest86+ 6) PC-Check 7) Mini-Win then extra boot options: 8) Boot To Hard Drive 9) Boot To CD-Rom 10) Boot To Floppy 11) Restart this will all fit on a single 1GB drive the problem i am running into is that when it boots it will come up to a boot menu like it should but only certain objects will boot (ex: memtest, boot & nuke) yet linux will fail during the boot process and dos cant find the boot disk. if someone could please help point me in the right direction. i would like to accomplish this by making a bootable DVD and porting it to a USB device.
  10. i got the unattended CD running great and working perfectly on one of the older laptops, but on this recently build computer i cant seem to get it to want to install correctly. it fails when the GUI loads for the first time, and after i put in the CD-Key and it starts copying files over it will just pause and skip the rest of the steps. then every other step will just run and fail. The only thing different about the computer that is failing is that the hard drive is SATA and i have loaded the F6 drivers fine. and also put the SATA controller into Native IDE simluation in the BIOS and i am still having issues with that computer only.
  11. @jaclaz yes I have built just builds that are only unattended. builds that are only slipstreamed with updates and drivers builds that have been slimmed down. -At first i was only doing testing on a real machine till every said make sure it works in VM first. so i downloaded VPC and tested a couple of my builds. and they all work in VPC. but when i install them on a real computer it seems as if im not getting all the files copied over. for example i "Don't" get any errors when installing windows at all. but after i get to the desktop and try to open IE it kicks back and says would you like to open with notepad? picture viewer? also when i try to run a couple things in the run line. they cant be found. but these are working great on VPC and installs without any issues. I cant seem to see why it works great on VPC and when i burn that exact image to a CD-RW or CD for that matter it doesnt install on the real computer smoothly. ill upload the last config i had. and ill try to get a list of the services arent starting on the real computer. also it seems like on the real computer it takes a real long time during "Saving Settings" which i believe is T-15? correct? Well i finally used Virtual PC 2007 and tested on of the ISOs i made using it. and come to find out it works great inside of Virtual PC, but if i burn the ISO off to a CD and install it on a real computer i get the issues i talked about http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=93359 and well the thing i noticed different between the 2 installs is during the Full automated install and the "Saving Settings" step the real computer will take what seems to be an extremely long time to finish this step. but on the virutal PC install it just rolled right on by, and started up great. im not sure what is causing this problem with the "Saving Settings" step to take so long. but i believe something is failing during that step which is causing me alot of issues with services, IE, and other files being missing. please help.
  13. finally got one to work, but then when i reinstalled it to double check to make sure, it did the same thing again and still having issues. this cd that worked one time, had nothing and i mean nothing done to it, it was ran though nlite to make it unattented and thats all.
  14. im not worried about burning cds and testng them. i have a computer dedicated for testing hardware and software. i have tried alot of different builds in the past 3 days from just a basic xp cd. to just updates, to just drivers, and the problem is that even at the ground level with no components removed and only the unattended part done using nLite i still have the same issues once the install is finished, at this point its basically a problem between the files on my computer, nlite, and the ISO, so nothing is wrong with the computer it is installed on, and i have built other basic cds on other machines to double check. even copied files from completely different cds.
