  1. Thank you very much for the summary pointing me to the best-practice-solution! One last question: how would you recommend to convert the registry-export to the mentioned inf-format? Is there a tool available to do so, or do I have to follow the syntax guidelines and convert it manually? Kind regards, Patrick
  2. Hello, I'm observing a strange behaviour - maybe this is of any use for the package-developer: I'm using Hfslip with a RIS/WDS-Server in order to install our clients. I think that since I added the 6th cumulative time zone update for use with Hfslip, right after installation all of the client-computers are using the timezone "(GMT+4:30) Kabul" instead of "(GMT +01:00) Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern Rom, Stockholm, Wien" which is configured as the default time zone in remboot.sif - quite probably al-Qaida hacked my RIS-setup ;-)) Might someone explain to me why this happens? Is it the fault of the timzone package for Hfslip or is any of my included MS hotfixes the root of all evil? Kind regards, Patrick
  3. did anyone figure out how to silent install adobe reader 9 - preferably as MSI package?
  4. message deleted by mod so we can keep this on topic.
  5. @AgiHammerklau: sorry - i just forgot to add something to read for you: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License And here's another quote for you (sorry for the german stuff, but maybe agi is better in understanding his mother-tongue): Die GPL gewährt jedermann die folgenden vier Freiheiten als Bestandteile der Lizenz. 1.
  6. @AgiHammerklau: stay relaxed, sweetheart! at first let me make clear that i'm sure not asking around everywhere - maybe my 5 postings in that forum are to hard to read for you, but i don't know... maybe you're just halucinating a bit today? as far as i can tell, both tools were publicly released under the gnu license - at least both tools contain the corresponding license agreements. if we were in a linux-forum, i'd say: RTFM! the only thing that would support your statement at least a little bit would be the following quote that you can find somewhat hidden at the bottom of hfslip's homepage. quote: "The target group are "home users"." that doesn't sound to me like it was forbidden to have a look at it, even if i might intend to use it for so called commercial use... i really appreciate the author's work, and how can _you_ tell that i won't support them for their work in case i can get everything to work the way i would like it to? btw: did you already find the donate via paypal link, mate?! if any potential supporters get p***ed of like that from people like you, Nuhi, TommyP and Tomcat76 won't probably see a dime... additionally, i can't see anything wrong in contributing my observations and feature requests to this forum, and i really don't like people that want to tell me what i should do. and above all: keep your temper, mate!
  7. hi tomcat76, i would like to make a feature request: i intend to use ris in order to install our client machines in the future. i'm currently using hfslip and silent net maker to prepare the installation files for ris which works like a charm - thank you for those great scripts! unfortunately, when i copy the files over to the ris server via risetup -add, some files from the sourcess folder don't make it over to the ris server. as far as i can tell from searching the internet it is because of some missing entries in the file layout.inf. one example for such a file is "aaclient.dl_". when i manually copy over the missing files after risetup -add, everything works fine. would it be possible to have hfslip regenerate layout.inf so that it contains the entries for all the new files? cheers, grunz
  8. here's another vote for ris support in nlite! i think that would really help a lot of ambitious enduser and could make ris a bit more popular for xp installs ;-) cheers, grunz
  9. i can confirm that the slipstreamed ie7 works including png-transparency. i will double check it again as soon as i recreate my install sources and install another test computer tonight. cheers, grunz
  10. hi @all, just wanted to drop some lines mentioning that i managed to get dot net framework 2+3 installed at T-13 with the following code snippet added to a batchfile in the $oem$ folder of my ris-server. reg delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting\DW /f reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup /v SystemSetupInProgress /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f %systemdrive%\Apps\dotnetfx.exe /Q /C:"install.exe /Q" reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup /v SystemSetupInProgress /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f reg delete HKLM\Software\Microsoft\PCHealth\ErrorReporting\DW /f reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup /v SystemSetupInProgress /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f %systemdrive%\Apps\dotnetf3.EXE /q /NORESTART reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup /v SystemSetupInProgress /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f meanwhile i'm almost fully up and running with a xp sp2 risetup flat-image that has all current post-sp2 updates, ie7+updates(slipstreamed!), wmp11, net framework 2+3 and all the other optional stuff integrated. i'm installing apps like putty, keepass, irfanview, filezilla, net-framework, kaspersky antivirus 6 and so on via a batchfile in t-13 that is referenced by cmdlines.txt. on the final reboot the msi-based apps like office 2007, firefox, flash player, shockwave player, adobe reader, lotus notes, pdf-creator, xml notepad, opera & paint.net are installed via gpo's in active directory. the setup also contains all the drivers for our various dell systems like the latitude d620 notebooks, or desktops like optiplex gx745 and gx620. the coolest thing about that is that i just need to maintain a single installation source in the future ;-) it's quite nice to see how it all works together. the only thing i still need to find out is how to reliably avoid the installation of outlook 2007 since it's getting installed all the time despite the settings i make in config.xml or default.msp...
  11. I'm experiencing exactly the same issue when installing through group policies. i've even checked the option to remove the previous version before installing the new one, and used the gpo-option to replace a previous package (office 2003) but that doesn't seem to work at all. all office 2003 shortcuts remain active, and after clicking one of them, it starts the windows installer to reinstall or repair office 2003. after that process finished, the coresponding application, e.g. word 2003 starts up normally, but word 2007 is also available.... any idea how to get rid of office 2003 during the upgrade?
