btw Tihiy can you fix so we are allowed to shutdown or reboot with SIB when using RDP(Remote Desktop Protocol) ? afaik it has never been possible with sib.

I can logout, lock pc and shutdown RDP, thats basicly it, no reboot or shutdown in gui available.

I don't know if he can make SiB do that or not - that's RDP that takes that away.

    Run dialog or Command Prompt.

"shutdown /i" (without quotes, and that's the lowercase letter I (Eye) after the forward slash).  Gives you a GUI.  Enter PC name and other options, etc.  If you're using RDP on a local network, you can use the command from any network PC, not just the one you want to shutdown, since you have to give the shutdown GUI the name(s) of the PCs to act on.

Or use Chrome RDP, I use either of those two options when I want to reboot or shutdown a PC remotely.

If you don't want either of those two alternatives, ignore me.   :)

Or use left ALT and F4 to bring up the dialogue box and chose what you want to to.

Not really an option , i could use shutdown -i too, but if you only using mouse for simple task already made just by clicking..

anyways does any of you know what command for the simple shutdown gui is?

You can actually configure the shutdown command completely with command line switches, put it in a batch file and make a shortcut to it.  I know it's not as easy as you'd like but I can't think of any other option other than standalone third-party programs for shutdown or reboot.

  4. In SIB++ for windows 10, I could not open settings in version 1.0.1. The issue was resolved in 1.0.2. However, running sfc /scannow, after rebooting, I get a flashing blank screen. The issue remains in safe mode. Fortunately, I had a restore point. I deleted SIB++ 1.02 and the issue is gone. I like this program and would like to continue using this since I have used it since Windows 8. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how to resolve? Thanks in advance.

No, I haven't had it, even under 1.0.1.  Did you most recently upgrade to Windows 10 or clean install Windows 10?  What edition of it are you using?  Try a Reset of Windows?  (Notification / All settings / Update & security / Recovery / Reset this PC "Get started" / Remove everything)

I'd try either the Reset or the clean install (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10)

    ++1.0.2

    - RTL fixes

    - 'Advanced Startup' option is properly named
    - Windows logo button on tablet always opens system menu
    (As in StartIsBack+)

This version will be pushed as automatic download if you have v1.0.1 installed.

For the next update have you considered adding a Windows 10 Visual Style?

That is for me the only thing that is missing..

Keep up the great work! :D

Yea if we could have a win10 menu with the option to hide the user account picture and use the win8/7 file types instead of the massive alphabetical win10 list showing every letter and using those stupid large manilla folders that would be perfect.

I think I read people say that if you choose a different than the default StartIsBack theme that the user account picture doesn't show up.

You mean if I don't use a startisback++ theme and check the toggle to turn off the user account picture it will remove it from the win10 startmenu?

No, I guess I misunderstood what you were asking for.  I could be wrong, but I doubt if SiB will ever be made to modify the original Windows 10 Start Menu, if that's even possible or reasonable.

  7. The Do not prelaunch SearchUI and ShellExperienceHost processes option doesn't do anything. I have the option checked on and the processes stay in the task manager and if I manually terminate them they just come right back.

Have you tried rebooting since you last enabled that option?  I don't have those processes running.  I'm running Enterprise LTSB N, but I'm pretty sure at least SearchUI is still included with this version.

  8. Yep, search is very fast for me too.  Calc, cmd, windows update, come up instantly for me.  Of course, searching for Windows Update doesn't provide a link to actual Windows Update, but that's not SiB's fault since Windows 10's built in Windows Update doesn't bring it up either.

  9.

Can you add support for removing those 2 icons in options of startmenu if possible?

Hi!  If you already know this, ignore me, but just wanted to make sure you know that the options to remove those already exist in the right-click taskbar options:

  10.

Tihiy, having installed StartIsBack on close to 100 of my clients' Win8/8.1 PCs (as well as a few of my own), I'm personally very grateful for all the fantastic work you've done with StartIsBack (as, of course, are very many of my clients!) so, please, don't feel the need to be defensive.

Instead, please try to take on board the fact that, if I couldn't find this information, it's not as prominent as it really should be.

So, please, just make this important fact rather more obvious.

Just for the record (okay, I am being unnecessarily pedantic), there is no such mention on these key pages:

I would call it a Frequently Asked Question, and it's under the FAQ section of the website.

  11. How do I get in touch with a live person to communicate an issue I want to resolve with licensing.  I purchased 750 licenses and now want to purchase additional maybe up to 1500 or 2000.  This issue is that I want to retain my original activation code so we don't have to use multiple code for deployment and don't have to keep track of which machines have which activation codes... it would help us if we could just purchase the additional licenses and someone on startisback's side could update our activation code to reflect the additional licenses we purchased.  Can anyone help on startisback's side?

I'll PM you and see if I can help.

Edit:  You have to write support email.

  12. After installing version 1.0, I can no longer find the option to show the desktop when hovering over the show desktop bar or was it not in the program and found in a windows settings?

Mine's on the very far right to the right of the clock, very slim compared to how it was in Windows 7, but that's Windows 10's behavior.  It's working for me.

    Hello

Is there a way to change the background of the Start Menu from white to something other color, preferably with an option for transparency?

    thanks

  13. Works nicely, Many thanks!

I removed some garbage apps manually what Startisback was not able to uninstall using the menu option, like Edge, Cortana, Windows Feedback, Contact Support. All is OK, but there is some junk entries still in menu now. No biggie for me, just a little cosmetic problem. Probabily some registry cleaning needed or are these hard-coded in Startisback? Have you some guidelines how to remove this junk from the menu? Thanks in advance!

Hi! First, have you tried rebooting?

Since it looks like all four files in that folder are now generic icons, can't you just delete that folder?

  14. After going to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\StartIsBack and running the StartIsBackCfg.exe I get a "Access violation at address 0045CBB0 in Module 'StartIsBackCfg.exe'. Read of address 0000004." error.

roirraWedorehT, did you install it over a previous version of SIB?

No, it was a completely fresh Windows 10 installation from the final disc image downloaded from Microsoft.

I'm not entirely sure what the problem was, but a clean install of Windows 10 allowed it to install just fine.

Glad that at least solved it.  I know MS is working heavily towards perfecting the upgrade system but maybe it's still not even close.

Hello what the command to install in silent mode  please
    Thank you

  15. No! I want to start cmd as Administrator only from StartIsBack++ app, not always (I know how to enable loading cmd always with an administrator privilege). Also I think, it would be very nice to add feature to your own app links in menu like regedit or something like this (with adding your own or system icon to it).

I just double checked this and only when you launch it using the shortcut that you configured to have run as Admin will it run as Admin.  You can create two shortcuts and rename them "Cmd as Admin" and "Cmd".

  16. I know. I want to enable it via settings to lanch it as Administrator only from pinned command line in Start.

Can you create a shortcut to the command shell, then change the properties of the shortcut to always run it as Admin, then click OK so that everytime you use the shortcut it'll run it as Admin, like you can with other programs?

  17.

Fixed false positive. You must know your AV is crap when it reacts to icon resources, not code.

Most AVs are crap. I've had a bunch of them marking a ZIP file as dangerous, but not any of the individual files from the ZIP.

You had me at "Most AVs are crap."  :D

  18. What do you marketing guys think about 1.0 release date?

Should it be before or after July 29?

Hi!  Thanks for the Win 10 SiB!  I haven't tried it yet because I stopped using the technical preview a couple of months ago but I will be just as soon as I'm updated.

I think July 28th or 29th would be ideal, to coincide as closely as possible with the public release of 10.

    Cheers!

  19. Hello, I checked out StartisBack at the recommendation of a friend. I use Windows for personal and business use, a one-man show photography business. Do you offer licenses for smaller businesses than 10 computers (I don't need that many) or should I just purchase the personal? Thanks!

Hi!  I can't really speak for Tihiy, but I'm pretty sure that whichever fits your needs the best is fine - that the business licenses are merely for the convenience of being able to apply one single key to however many PCs, so if the personal license fits you better due to only needing a few, then he's probably fine with it.  Make sure and test the trial version on your configuration to make sure it works as you expect it to.  Also, this particular version "StartIsBack" is only for Windows 8.0.  If you're running Windows 8.1, you want StartIsBack+, both available at www.startisback.com.

  20. Yes, it made no difference. However when I re-installed I did not have to re-activate it, so some state information persisted. Is there some manual removal which is more thorough than using Control Panel add/remove programs?

Search this thread for "registry".  I think I recall Tihiy giving some people instructions for where to remove SiB's configuration information from.
