How to install Windows from USB- WinSetupFromUSB with GUI
Joshatdot replied to ilko_t's topic in Install Windows from USB
Conclusion, using 0.23 with NTFS works best for me, at least on the HP mini 110-1012NR I was working on. When I prep'ed my stick with 1.07b it took at least 20x slower just loading Setup .. regardless of FAT or NTFS format. I should have made a video to show how slow it was. The time it took, with 1.07b, to inspect the hardware & loading Setup (before the HDD drivers were loading) .. that same stick prep'd with 0.23 was already done loading & asking me to press F8 to accept EULA. -

I just redid my OCZ Rally2 Turbo with 1.07b, formatted with BOOTICE to FAT32 @ 2048 LBA (and 63 LBA) .. the Initial Setup (loading the Setup Executable, Drivers, etc...) was very v-e-r-y s-l-o-w . . . My older Memorex 2GB stick was done with 0.23 @ FAT32 (and I think LBA 63) .. and it loaded Setup and the drivers very fast .. it was only slow copying files after Formatting the HD. I am now re-redoing my OCZ with 0.23 with RMPrepUSB, FAT32, Boot as HDD (2PNTS), XP Bootable [NTLDR] .. and we'll see if that is faster. edit: this time it is MUCH faster loading the Setup files & Drivers .. and I am guessing that it is FAT32 .. copying files after HDD format .. it is slow. I do not remember how fast that was when it was NTFS. Now I am tempted to try 0.23 with my OCZ with NTFS... edit2: 0.23 with NTFS boots correctly .. no STOP UNMOUNTABLE 0xED errors .. and it is copying files after format FAST! -

I got this same error with booting with my USB stick formatted with NTFS .. when I booted with a different stick, formatted with FAT32, I did not get the error & continued with Setup. edit: my OCZ Rally2 was prep'd with 1.07b and NTFS .. and was getting that error. Now I redid my OCZ with 0.23 and NTFS boots correctly .. no STOP UNMOUNTABLE 0xED errors .. and it is copying files after format FAST! -

that error: UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME .. is from formatting the USB flash with NTFS .. I got the same error with my stick formatted to NFTS .. when I booted with a different stick formatted with FAT32, I did not get the BSoD error. edit: my OCZ Rally2 was prep'd with 1.07b and NTFS .. and was getting that error. Now I redid my OCZ with 0.23 and NTFS boots correctly .. no STOP UNMOUNTABLE 0xED errors .. and it is copying files after format FAST! -

Only thing has changed is different but same OCZ flash. I have 3 of these OCZ Rally2 Turbo 4GB drives, I used a different one to prepare the last tests. I saw that Experimental PLoP option in the 1st GRUB menu, but didn't choose it .. ever. Now that I think about it .. I might have screwed up my 1st attempt with 1.0b7 .. after I did the Process MBR .. I poked around the Process PBR stuff & might have did something in there. I could have done the GRUB4DOS in there too. -

GO boot from OCZ .. grub4dos menu, c find /usbdrive.tag (hd0,0) calc *0x475 & 0xFF 2 (HEX:0x2) It worked! I got to Setup choose hdd .. and then quit. I must have preped it wrong before. -

Did you start from the USB-IDE disk or the OCZ? I am losing you here. Can we run a few tests on this machine to figure out what's going on? I am not sure if I used PLoP .. i choose bootice, parts manage, format this part, ntfs, then activate, then process mbr: grub4dos .. then choose my Winlite.iso, GO .. etc I only had the OCZ flash drive connected (only others were the internal HDD & DVD) .. If I also connected a USB to IDE HDD along with the OCZ flash drive .. upon boot on the Toshiba I press F12 to choose what to boot from .. I selected the OCZ flash drive like usual .. with both of them connected I do not get the I/O error. Tests .. if I don't have to format & install XP, sure .. other wise I'd need a spare 2.5" sata hdd to play with. -

Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527 OCZ Rally2 Turbo 4GB WinSetupFromUSB_1-0-beta7 I formated the OCZ to NTFS & Activated the Boot Flag, and copied my nLite XP Pro SP3 ISO files. Upon boot I press F12 to select & boot from the OCZ .. I get the GRUB4DOS menu .. but when I choose First Part from the menu & Setup is just starting .. I get: The system encountered an I/O error accessing multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1). Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit. But if I plug in a HDD using a USB to IDE adapter .. reboot, F12 choose the OCZ, GRUB4DOS, First Part .. it worked .. but during Second Part setup rebooted .. and now I get some aspc missing file error. I used WinSetupFromUSB 0.2.3 before on nearly the same laptop with a different flash drive (Memorex mini Travel 2GB) and it worked great .. but copy files was S-L-O-W. Right now I am trying 0.2.3 on my OCZ .. waiting for that to copy all the setup files ----- 0.2.3 on my OCZ worked perfectly! much much faster with my OCZ & NTFS! -
meh..i'll perform another reinstall =\

bump, is there anyway I can add Video Capture back, with out reinstalling XP?
-
that is for Creative Webcam Pro EX, it wont work =( On a hunch I am gona test the cam on a different computer, and see if it works. Works perfectly fine on Dell 4600, vanilla Dell Home XP ======================================================================= What part of the Nlite stuff I took out of the XP Pro CD to make it not work? ;# Drivers # MultiFunctional ?? ;# Hardware Support # Multi-port serial adapters USB Audio support USB Ethernet Video Capture ...!!!! OMG IT MUST BE THAT, How did I not see that before! Can I take this INI and the other INI with PID info etc, delete out the Video Capture, and make a new CD/ISO? Or How can I reinstall Video Capture with out making a new CD and re-installing for a 3th time?
-
well I reinstalled with the WinLite I made afew weeks ago, got everything back the way it was. But I still cannot get the Webcam Pro/PD1030/OmniVision 511+ camera to work with any drivers. The green power LED on the cam lights up, but no picture/video at all.

I did what you said, but I deleted everything from the Device Managers list of drivers for the webcam. I then DL'ed and installed the drivers, and rebooted. After reboot, I checked DM, and now there are yellow ! on both my CD/DVD Drives, Creative SB Live! Series, Universal Plug and Play Enumerator. AHHH!1 I deleted too much, heres what I deleted: @ECHO OFF DEL C:\WINDOWS\AMCAP.EXE DEL C:\WINDOWS\OMCAMCAP.EXE DEL C:\WINDOWS\OMCAMDIB.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\OMNIUNS.EXE DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\6620P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\6630ADP.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\6630AFP.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\6630P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\7610P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\7620AEP.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\7620P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\7630P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\76BE.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\8600P.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\OVTCAM\CUSTOMP.SET DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\BMPPROC.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\KS.SYS DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OMCAMVID.SYS DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\OVTCAMD.SYS DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KSPROXY.AX DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\KSUSER.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OMCAMEXT.AX DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OMCAMEXT.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OMCAMSTI.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\OMCAMUSD.DLL DEL C:\WINDOWS\TWAIN_32\OMCAM\OMCAMTWN.DS DEL C:\WINDOWS\VIDCAP32.EXE PAUSE I made a CMD file to delete those...I should have moved them instead. You think it is the KS.SYS, KSPROXY.AX & KSUSER.DLL? everything else looks to be the webcam.
