Well, NTFS.SYS (in itself) it is a "stable enough" driver.
It is more likely that it reflects - under stress - a misbehaviour of the hardware (RAM or hard disk or it's controller, or even just the SATA cable
or of the network, though the latter is less probable).Try to not use hibernation for a few days and see if the behaviour remains.

Sometimes when copying fairly large files over the Network from an XP computer, I'll get strange bluescreens with no consistent error. I do have the latest Minidump from such a crash; here's the bluescreen output of said dump:

It's not a very reassuring system that crashes on random.SPECS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1, 6 GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics (i3 M350), WD 750 GBit Black Hard Drive, K42F-A1 Asus. Jmicron LAN
P.S. I did find this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2519736, which I don't think applies here because it's a different error, though I do tend to hibernate a fair bit.

I was actually thinking of using Server 2003 as a main OS, but it turned out it wasn't ideal for my circumstance.
Still, I think there must be at least someone other than you that needs this. After all, 2003 gets an extra year of support compared to XP.
BTW, how long have you been using 7?

First you'd need to know if the Samsung software actually runs if the monitor is not plugged in. If it doesn't run then you could schedule it normally. If it does run, then you'll need a wrapper for launching this software. There may be better ways to do this, but this is the first thing that comes to mind:

When the monitor is connected, it should appear in Device Manager as a specific name. If it shows up as Generic Monitor, there could be an issue, Even so, there should be a unique ID that the monitor will notify Windows with. Is this an LCD or a CRT monitor?It shows up as a unique monitor (SyncMaster E2020), so that shouldn't be a problem. It is an LCD monitor connected through a digital port.
Which monitor is it for? and what exactly does the software do?I have just installed Win7 on a new system with a Samsung SyncMaster P2450H. The monitor was recognised at install as a Generic monitor however when visiting Microsoft Update I was offered an optional one for my monitor which now shows as its correct name. I cannot think of any reason why I'd need to install specific software for the monitor, therefore I haven't and have suffered no ill effects as a result.
The software which came on the supplied CD-ROM with the User's Guide and (non-used) Monitor Driver was MagicTune 1.0.122 and MultiScreen 3.0.0. I have no idea what either of them will give me that I cannot get now or possibly through something I already have, but neither of them are requirements.
I installed the driver and latest MagicTune software directly from the website. The software and its services start up regardless if the monitor is plugged into my laptop or not. When it isn't, it gives me the usual unsupported monitor message and then hangs. I know I could have lived without installing the software, but it is moderately useful.

Is there some way to set up Task Scheduler perhaps to run Samsung monitor-related programs and services only when the monitor is actually plugged in?

This is probably more than you want, but Explorer++ is closer in conception to the Windows XP Explorer, is more customizable in terms of toolbar/address bar/menu bar placement, and the latest version can be configured to function as the default file manager.

That's expected - ieframe.dll only gets it's registration and configuration information on the box from the setup routine for IE7 or IE8 (or, of course, being preinstalled with the OS as on Vista/IE7 or Win7/IE8). It has no DllRegister function, and as such, you cannot register or un-register it. You can modify, delete, add, etc. it's registry information manually, of course, but you can't use the .dll to do it.
Can registration also occur as the result of simply opening IE7/IE8?
I will be manually deleting some useless entries, such as CLSID for the IE RSS feeds folder and other useless entries. Otherwise, my system is functioning fairly well with this corrupt registry.
I wonder, if you replace those filetype handler entries that were modified to use Ieframe.dll and point them to any non-existant DLL, will this default-browser-opening-every-link side-effect still occur?

I don't know if it's possible. You could unregister that DLL and see what happens I guess.

Unregistering didn't work. Ieframe.dll refused to either be registered or unregistered.
No matter though. Since it has been determined that the MTP Device issue and other sudden Explorer crashing had nothing to do with the IE7 DLL registrations (which I had assumed), I guess I have discovered the secret behind this mystery. Is this useful to you at all, FDV?
I guess Ieframe.dll is what allows the "de-integration" between IE7 and Windows Explorer, among other things like RSS functions. Oh, and I guess there's no reason to install IE7, since the DLLs that were registered unintentionally are few, and what was added is of little worry. I've dodged the bullet! ...for now...
It'd be cool to add the "open all links in the default browser" feature into the FDV fileset.

No, but it would be consistent with poor development practices (and I would bet redistribution of IE binaries is probably not legal). I expect nothing less from Apple, honestly.
Well, you can't blame Apple this time; IEFrame.dll doesn't exist anywhere on my system. In fact, this may have to do with the HTTP Link phenomena that I mentioned not too long ago. This is an IE7 DLL, but I have IE6.

No, actually, it's not, and it requires usage of their program to see the memory as well. Is there any way you can get a dump of explorer crashing using Microsoft's tools? I don't care what the page says for this tool, the dump files generated by adplus/cdb.exe are much easier to actually look at in a debugger, and they create actual memory files that can be analyzed and inspected rather than just static log files with callstack and module info (anyone can create those, and that's precisely why they're almost completely useless).

I would also highly recommend the latest XBCD drivers. By latest, I mean version 0.27, not the latest official version found on the site.
Just a note though that the "XBOX" tab in the XBCD setup utility will be messed up relative to your actual controls. Ignore it.

I am having problems browsing MTP devices with Windows Explorer. Opening MTP devices and browsing takes a long time' date=' to the point that freezing occurs and 100% CPU usage is recorded. Also while browsing, Windows Explorer will often crash. Here is part of a report of one such crash:

I have used both a Creative ZEN and a Sony NWZ-B105F; both have the same results in Windows Explorer. Windows Media Player works, but I really don't like using WMP. I also don't want to use the bundled Creative Zen software because of all the crap it includes, and that wouldn't solve the problem with the Sony player.
I disabled services a while back, including Terminal Services and the Portable Media Serial Number Service, but not User Mode Driver Framework/Windows Driver Foundation or anything that I know of that interferes with MTP Device operation.
I tried to reinstall WMP 11 to the best of my abilities (unable to uninstall), but the problem remains. I also tried installing the MTP Porting Kit as suggested by other sources, but the freezing/crashing still occurs.

Fair enough, but I think TommyP wouldn't have done that even if had the right. Although I have seen some cases with Free software projects where the author in fact tries to do what I just suggested.

When trying to use my generic CD-ROM drive, nothing happens. I place the CD in the drive, and no activity occurs in the CD Drive (the initial reading that always occurs with any CD drive. I then try opening the CD Drive (on the computer), and it gives the message "Please insert a disk into Drive E:". Again, the CD Drive doesn't do anything (ie. try to move the disk at all). There are no broken-hardware noises, just nothing.
Device Manager reports nothing wrong with the CD Drive, and the CD/DVD Drive Microsoft "Fix-it" doesn't report any problem other than "there is no disk in the drive", in which the solution is to insert a disk in the drive (no, really?).
And yes, this CD Drive has worked before. After I reinstalled Windows, the CD drive was actually doing something and reading the audio content on the CD. Soon after that, it reverted to a state of not doing anything.
Any ideas?

Then the license wouldn't even apply. Public domain works literally mean free and unrestricted use. They are copyright free. Someone attaching a license to something when it's in the public domain (they don't have the rights to it) means you can ignore the license.I was refering to uploading to the Internet Archive, a sort of "public domain" in itself that doesn't provide an environment to develop projects like SourceForge, but rather serve as a library for lack of a better description. It would also serve as a great place to host all that information and hints on HFSLIP that were on his site. Just to note that I am aware that releasing to the public domain essentially means "do whatever you want", akin to the WTFPL. I was vague on this point.

So over this weekend I will be dual booting or attempting to dual boot my friends PS3 with the PS3 OS and Linux Yellow Dog or possibly Ubuntu/Xubuntu. If any of you have done this and can give me a heads up on any possible headaches I may run into? If not I'll let you all know how it goes.
You are aware of the recent PS3 update that disables the "Other Operating System" feature, right? If your friend installed this latest update on the PS3, then it won't work.
