  4. That or install it from a network. I think this can be done, but I am unsure. Other than that, get another copy from wherever and try it. Big Booger. Or you could copy the one file you need to your HDD. When it asks for the file during your install from the disk, point it to the folder on your HDD where you copied it to. Big Booger Anyway, the install failed consistently with Error 1311, cannot find E:Office1.cab. But that file was clearly on the CD. Instead of diving in the MS Knowledgebase, I grabbed the phone as this was a warranty issue. Called MS Tech Support and within 3 minutes I was talking to a friendly guy who said he had heard about that one before. He searched on the internal MS KB and found the article quickly. His first reaction was: "WOW". I asked what the issue was and it turned out he had actually entered that KB issue himself in the first place. The problem has to do with reading the CD-drive while running the setup at the same time. It may be a resources issue, that was not actually clear. But the short workaround is to create a new directory on the C: drive, copy all the files from the CD to it (no CD reading problem there) and then run setup from the hard drive. This made the whole setup and registration go smoothly. Frontpage was up in less than 15 minutes. All in all a pleasant and fast resolution. Hope you'll be able to put this simple solution to use some day. ---------------------------------------------- article about your problem----------------------------------------------------------
  5. Pricewatch is the place to go. Though I have found crucial to be nice, because they offer namebrand RAM, and not the generic cheap ram from pricewatch. Plus they have free shipping, but if you want dirt cheap, go with pricewatch or ebay. Big Booger

  12. ASPI ASPI (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface) specifies how an application program can communicate with a SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) device through a common SCSI device driver. ASPI provides a set of functions that are common to any SCSI device. Developed by Adaptec, ASPI has become the industry standard for controlling SCSI devices. The ASPI device driver is the program that actually interacts with the SCSI device. The layering looks something like this: application/utility, ASPI, ASPI driver, SCSI card.
  13. If its USB, use a serial adapter. If its parallel use a USB adapter. Try different combinations. Another thing is to try to update all your drivers, try running the printer soft in compatibility mode, and lastly, uninstall Office if you have it installed. See if that helps. Big Booger

  17. Anyone know where you can get an animated wallpaper? I knew a program that would do this but it was cheesey. It only would animated patterns. For example. I would like to take a movie clip and make it my background in windows XP. ANother thing is I would like to take an animated image and make it a background. It would be like having a screensaver in your background. I think this would be kewl. I would specifically like to see the acquarium screensaver be turned into a wallpaper. One thing though, I don't want a program to hog all my resources. Thanks, Big Booger

  23. the document recovery feature. I had written a 3 page document for work, and my system crashed while I was trying to save it. XP helped me recover the document and save it again after I restarted the PC. It is worth it in terms of security of knowing your documents will be saved in the event of a failure, I don't know if 2K had that feature or not. To be honest it has been about a year since I used 2k. Another goodie that I like is the fairly seamless integration between all of the office productes, access, excel, pp, etc... They go good together. Additionally XP has the voice crap, though it's far from perfect, they are on the right track by including it. Big Booger
