  1. @ madboy I wouldn't do that as I always try to 'give credit - where credit's due'. e.g. this was all made possible by an idea from madboy etc etc.
  2. well, as I haven't received an answer regarding where to place the ICM file. I've decided on some lateral thinking! Instead of trying to place the ICM where the inf file 'looks' (e.g. ROOT folder etc etc), or testing a variety of $OEM$ possibilities) I thought I might as well just place it in the I386 folder in a compressed format [LGL1915S.IC_]. Then add it to the dosnet and txtsetup.sif files like so: [FILES] d1,lgl1915s.icm [sourcedisksfiles] lgl1915s.icm = 1,,,,,,,,3,3 ...then simply remove the 'copyfiles' entries from the inf file altogether. Any good?
  3. @rick please see: (for more detail) http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=84051 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=ST...=83984&st=0 http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=83349&st=0 many thanks!
  4. a] xpcd b] xpcd\I386 c] or somewhere else? thanks!
  5. @'Ctrl-X' ; Destination Directories ;------------------------------------------------- [DestinationDirs] DefaultDestDir = 11 ; LDID_SYS monitor.infs.copy = 17 ; LDID_INF L1915S.Copyfiles = 23 I believe this bit "L1915S.Copyfiles = 23" instructs setup to place the ICM in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color" folder? - yes? i.e. that's where it ends up alright as placed by the modified monitor.inf file. I want to know where the monitor.inf file looks for the ICM initially. I attach the relevant sections of the .inf file herewith. However, it's not obvious to me [by reading this file] where the setup is instructed to look as it just says %disk%? ; Source Disks Names ;------------------------------------------------- [SourceDisksNames] 1=%DISK%,,, Does the afore mentioned 'installation root' equate to %disk% perhaps?
  6. @ctrl-x thank you! @everyone: ...in accordance with the above quote I have attached a file with the relevant sections ONLY. Have a look at the file and tell me if you think that in this 'given' scenario, the ICM file would be best placed at the ROOT of the [distribution] source media? (i.e. right on the CD itself - not inside any other folders). OR I could always copy it to: ROOT +I386 +DRIVER CAB +$OEM$\$1\Drivers\Monitor folder +$OEM$\$$\system32\spool\drivers\color ....and just hope that it is found!! monitorINF_sections_directive_.inf
  7. when you create a working xpcd folder, where would you place any .icc . icm files please? (the reference comes from an .inf file in the I386 folder; there is no obvious path? (I know where it ends up - but that is not the issue). hope someone knows?
  8. @madboy thanks for the idea but could you be a bit more explicit and elaborate a little please as I don't quite follow your method i.e. ' the penny hasn't dropped* - yet!' (colloquialism/figure of speech*) e.g. a 1,2,3 .... walk through would be ideal
  9. @delprat 1. good! - but might as well use the hardware update wizard instead as this 'defeats the object of the exercise' i.e. unattended install. 2. same as '1' (above). 3. I'm trying something like this, please see the rest of this thread, thanx! 4. Why can't I what? many thanks for the suggestions
  10. @madboy thanks but I don't fancy learning the autoit language just to install the pseudo monitor driver. time in=time out thanks for the tip though, I may look at it in the future
  11. OH! ..where does the .ICM go? I386? (i.e. same folder as the monitor.inf)... ...or not?
  12. Hi there! I've integrated the whole of my .inf file into the MS monitor.inf would be grateful if anyone who understands the workings of inf files could take a look at it and tell me if you think it will work? My original post has the original files attached and this one has the result of the merger, please compare them if need be? MY additions are rem [;] in GREEN NB: The original comments are green too, but I did not alter them; they were already present when I opened it up! I'll leave it up to your own common sense to distinguish between them! The colours show up in 'notepad 2' B.T.W. (& maybe MS Word? or equivalent). Otherwise you're stuck with good old monochrome! I realise the ".cat" has been left out but it wouldn't work anyway with the edited version of the .inf file. However, I'm using: WINNT.SIF [unattended] driversigningpolicy=ignore nondriversigningpolicy=ignore ...so I should be OK - Yes? monitor_test.inf
  13. what's "%disk%,,," [sourcedisksfiles] .inf file mean? 1=%disk%,,, ? many thanks in advance!
  14. I'm hoping that someone can give 'form' to this idea (is it new?) well, I've uploaded the win xp [i386] monitor.inf file [expanded] and my L1915S.inf file.... I think you all know what's coming next - no? OK - Is there a way to supplant the default_monitor information in the monitor.inf file with that of the L1915S and in effect make that the default monitor for auto install? If not supplant, then simply 'merge' and 'add to' the monitor.inf file perhaps? A small amount of surgery should be all that is required? Are there any .inf file gurus on here (or somewhere)? I know the WINDOWS DDK has an .inf generator wizard that creates .inf's. It presumably asks for information that is already contained within the original .inf's? NB: I realise the notepad is the .inf file editor by the way! B) monitor.inf L1915S.INF
  15. Could you do a walk through for this process, as I have no idea what so ever? thanks in advance!
  16. I DO have full administrator privileges, but I saw this.... Note • When users do not have the required permissions, Devcon displays a generic "devcon failed" message with no further explanation. http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServe...3.mspx?mfr=true If you misspell the driver name, or try to add a driver that is not installed on the system, the command fails. Devcon will not add a driver unless the driver is registered as a service, that is, unless the driver has an subkey in the Services registry subkey (HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services). http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServe...2a055f1033.mspx devcon update Replaces the current device driver with the driver specified in the INF file. Valid only on the local computer. If Devcon cannot find the device, or if it cannot update it, it reports a failure. http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServe...35377b1033.mspx
  17. rem devcon status monitor\gsm4a90 What is it that the hardware update wizard does to install this monitor first time, every time; but yet devcon will not?

  23. I have attached my monitor.inf file F.Y.I. does anyone know the procedure for updating monitor drivers in unattended/silent mode? i.e. to mimic the actions of hardware update wizard in windows xp? could I use devcon perhaps?
