  1. Hi, sorry for the copy and paste, I was trying to make the things easier not worse (that's why the chopped version, I put just the part I thought was relevant ).

Anyway this time I attached the file.

As I used the .ini file included in the guide as base, I thought there could be no mistake, even because if I don't remove anything the procedure works just fine, so I'm 99.99% sure it must be something I remove.

sonnet, thanks for the Last Session. I see you are running nLite under Vista (or W7). This can be a problem especially if you are integrating an SP. Did your CD come with SP2 or have you slipstreamed it? I am still leaning toward Command-line tools. Have you tried without removing it? I hope you are testing under a virtual system. VMware Player and VirtualBox are free. I see you have removed OOBE. The help text that shows when you mouse over the option says you cannot activate your copy of Windows without it. Hope you are OK with that. I assume you have run nLite only once against your fresh copy of the CD files/folders. Enjoy, John.

EDIT: Meant to ask if you see anything from the GUI RunOnce command - "TimeOut /T 40" for example?

Thanks for the help. As you suggested the problem was the "command line tools " component.

I did the same image without removing it, and now it's working under virtualbox.

  2. Does the .bat script rely on some xp components to run?

I'm asking it because if I remove components with nlite along with the rest of the procedure, the .bat files do not run.

I means a cmd windows open at first logon but then nothing is installed, not the applications neither the .net or directx.

I don't remove any components then everything works fine.

Do you have any idea what could cause that?

    Basically I remove:

sonnet, in the future, please don't paste your Last Session - attach it. Also don't present a chopped up version. Attach the complete file - information at the top is very important. Also, we cannot even see how, or if, you are using the GUI RunOnce exit. The Command-line tools look like the most obvious candidate, but like I pointed out, we really cannot tell what you are trying to do. Please attach your complete Last Session. Enjoy, John.

  4. It's individual; some 32-bit software works on X64, but most have their own versions. Which add-ons are you interested in? Firefox should work fine.

I'm interested on addons as acrobat reader, avira antivir, and others applications which I know they work under xp x64.

My doubts were only about the addons .cab which I found on this forum, if they work only for xp 32bit, or can be used with xp x64 either.

  5. While I don't see any amazing new features, the new v5 has become too "shareware" for my taste.

That "buy this, buy that" popup screen every time the program is started is quite annoying.

I'm not going to update this addon anymore. v4.1.2.0 seems to be the last "good" version.

    Anyone would like to comment?

I totally agree with you,in fact I didn't download this version.

  6. Here's my collection of security updates for XP 64 SP2, also compatible with Windows Server 2003 SP2 64-bit, with all security updates up to this month (March).

With this, you can have an up-to-date install and don't need to go to Windows Update anymore to download who knows how much, and then install it all, so it saves a lot of time :w00t:

Premium content which requires a validation is not included. Also not included are updates to Windows Update, as they're different for XP 64 and Windows Server 2003 64-bit, so you would need two different packs with them included.

    Download here

btw: You can also use RyanVM Integrator 1.5 for this.

I tried your pack, but nlite says it's not a valid addon.

  7. Hi I have a problem to keep the Windows Firewall/ICS service working.

I don' t figure out what I remove that break the functionality of this service.I read on blackviper that Windows Firewall/ICS needs network connections to work properly and WMI

but I don't see any option to remove network connections, neither I removed WMI.The operating system is xp x64

I kept checked the "ethernet and wifi" box on compatibility button.

Here's my .ini file (I put only the relevant part ):

  8. Hi guys I want ask if can do this (and eventually how..):

I have a pc with a dualboot operanting system:

1)on partition C, I have installed Xp (with no application )

2)on partition D I have installed the application that I use with XP

    3)On partition E I have installed Ubuntu.

Now within Ubuntu I have created a virtual machine with Windows Xp installed,so that I have not to reboot to use an application that is Windows ONLY.

Now what I want to ask is: can I launch from the Xp installed on the virtual machine, the applications installed on Partition D?

I know that's normally is not possible as when an application is installed under xp the register keys are modified, but if I export the register key from the native XP installation and import to the XP installed in the virtual Machine? If this is going to work ,which keys I have exactly to export/import?

  9. Hi, I have noticed that on Xp Pro x64 SP2 if I put among the Hotfixes Internet Explorer 7,and the pack of hotfixes for internet explorer 7,the iso grow up of 12mb even though I remove Internet Explorer (the browser ),but I keep the InternetExplorer Core component.

Is that normal or is Nlite bug, that once you upgrade to Internet Explorer can't remove it?

  10. I'm making a vlited version of Windows Server 2008, and I've noticed that some option from "components removal " is not available,as for example

"windows media player" and "windows media player codecs","games" or windows calendar, sidebar etc etc.., though I'm quite confident they are in (I saw a howto

to set WindowsServer2008 as client machine and activate this components ).

So my question is:is possible remove this components with the current version of vlite?

Plus I noticed that there are not specific "component removal" option for Windows server 2008 as it was for W2003server (like adminitrative tools..).

I know the rtm came out just few day ago,so Nuhi don't take as complain, just questions to understand if I'm doing something wrong,or we have just

to wait a new version for the things I've asked.

  11. Hi,

I have now a pc with 8GB of ram an Windows XP Pro X64 as OS.

I'm looking for a sowfware that would manage so much RAM in the best way in order to minimize the access and usage of the hard drive, and to keep the most part of games in ram

in order to reduce the load time, a software that would manage in intelligent way prefetch as linux, or as the superfetch of vista.

Does anyone knows application as this?

  12. Hi guys I'm creating my nlite version of Windows XP x64 bit.

The problem is that I'm not sure if remove the followings components:

1)ActiveX for streaming video: I want remove WMP with nlite then reinstall the WMP's codecs after I install the OS on the pc.Are the activex needed to watch the video on internet that make use of WMP codecs?

Or they are needed for something else?

2)Active directory:I don't think I will need it,but I want ask to be sure,on my pc I will set 2 accounts, one with administrator rights, and one with limited rights, plus I will use the "Internet connection sharing service" to share my connection with a laptop. Is the active directory needed for this functionality?

3)H.323:are this codecs needed to make calls with Skype OpenWengo or Windows live messenger?

4)NetShell command tool: I don't use this commands but are they needed for some applications to work?

5)Network Driver monitor :apart from giving information about the connections are these driver necessary for some application (firewall, hardware driver ..) or some functionality?

6)Certicates Management:is this of any use?I searched with google but I didn't find any useful onformation.

7)Command line tools:the same than for Netshell

8)Disk and Profile quota:there's any application that make use of this?

    9)Automatic updates

I also checked the thread "what to not remove.." but I did't find the answers to my questions.

    I hope someone can help.

  13. Hi Guys, with XP and Nlite I was able to remove Internet explorer and Windows media player, and reinstall the windows media codec only and able to see on the internet stream video tat use wmp codec with browser as Opera,Theworldweb (that use the windows explorer engine ) and Firefox.

Now, I tried even keeping windows media player codec with vlite, but there is no way I can watch strem video on internet that make use of wmp codec.

Was anyone able to do that?

  14. Try without CDkey, or without whole unattended to see if that is the case.

I presume it's the wrong CDkey for the image which is only one left and auto-selected but I could be wrong.

edit: yup confirmed. Enter Ultimate key into the Business edition and you can have this issue.

Hi Nuhi thanks for the reply, you were actually right.

I made a Vista cd from the recovery cd of my laptop.

I had installed vista home premium, but Iwas doing the cd trough vlite I choosed home basic version thinking that being a lower version it wouldn't create problem.

I was wrong as selecting the premium version everything worked fine.

  15. I made 2 times a cd of vista vlited.I used the lasted version (beta 2 ) of vlite.

I made the cd both the times at the lowest speed the burning software would allow me to do (4x).

But when I reboot the laptop to install it (i tried on my dekstop also just to check if I would get the same error) the cd boot and load the files but when I get the first screen of the installation on the windows I cannot select any partition, I get the error:non image available

  16. BUMP

Anyone know where Vista stores all those useless old backup files for Hotfix uninstallations?

I don't want to ever uninstall any hotfixes and thus do not want the extra "old" versions of any files as backups taking up space, its the difference between being able to make a CD sized functional ISO and not being able to, those backup files add at least 150Mb to the ISO.

Did anyone find a solution to remove the old files replaced by the hotfixes?Even after install is not possible locate and delete this files?
