I really have no one outside my family to talk to, sometimes I talk co-workers at work, but no genuine contacts on the outside anymore. Though even if you do have someone, sometimes there's just nothing to say. I relate, it'd be nice, theoretically at least. It would also probably be easier if you managed to get interested in all sorts of random stuff. There was this guy, we used to chat every day. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE for someone like me, but with this person, it somehow worked out. Several years later and I've got a hunch he doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. This is almost the only forum I ever participated in that has concept of likes. I tend to do it when I'm in the right mood, my not reacting is not something to take personally. Believe me, I have exactly this same feeling as you. Talking about computers and knowing more about them. That's what I mainly like to do. I just remembered a class mate from the first years of elementary school saying to me once: "I thought your only friend was a computer." Oh my, that was before even YouTube was a thing. I wasn't exposed to much else in my younger days, some ball games with some kids occasionally and my family wasn't much into board games. Me and my brother play catan once in a blue moon and we go play a mini-golf once or twice a year. Wish we went a bit more often. Seems there's always something to occupy/waste time with on computer... And they're everywhere! Recently realized I bought a computer on wheels, my car's infotainment system is actually a full-blown little computer running Linux under the hood. The predecessor of two decades ago had a plain FM radio there, though simpler controllers (or control modules) for certain things was already a thing back then in cars.

Sad news for everyone here at MSFN. One of our forum supervisors, Dencorso, passed away on October 24th, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Apparently he was still upbeat and optimistic about the future a few weeks before he passed. My memories of Den go back quite a few years. He was incredibly helpful to me with technical problems, which is what this board is all about of course, initially mainly with Windows 98, and latterly with Windows XP. He was immensely supportive too when I first became a moderator here, something I will always be grateful for. He was definitely one of the good guys, and will be sorely missed here. Please add your memories here of working with Den. Thanks, Dave.

Sometimes when I even say hello and hi, some people here take even that wrong, like the cadence of my voice is off (which it is, I admit) but, I'm sorry, you don't keep running up to people demanding a proper response (which would be a simple hello or even a simple nod) ... fool me once, shame on them - fool me twice and shame on me. Online, things are better for me, but overall, I don't belong anywhere, not that I ever did, but I wasn't aware and just thought people were stupid, but I realize now, this new social cues (and whatever people call "Normal") is not all my fault. Right, has to be different vibe compared to some small company. The place I work is a bit too relaxed. But it works with the right people. No, it doesn't. I could be wrong though. Chrome's built-in translating is neat IMO, at least as long as you're happy with their service. Not for the most part. The "problem" arises due to IT Departments on three continents. All three get "automatic notifications" if any computer on the network pings any blacklisted domain. It is only then that one of those continents in particular will raise holy h#ll if it was open source software (such as Chrome, Chromium, or Firefox) that pinged the black list.

Yep. One of my favorites! I couldn't get through an 8hr day without it, lol. The other YouTube extension I use extends ad-blocking to "annotations" - which I can't say for 100% if I still need that one or not. edit - confirmed, still need the annotation-blocker also.

I use Enhancer for YouTube, it's a great extension. Be aware though that version 2.0.115 is the last version that will work on 360Chrome. I think the later ones need a later version of Chromium. I've attached it here, see if it works for you. FWIW YouTube works fine for me, with uBlock Origin I never see an advertisement! Under Windows XP you can use alternative file explorer that have decent support for long file path. I suggest you have a look at DoubleCommander (open source clone of Total Commander). for Windows XP+ https://doublecmd.sourceforge.io/ Note that when a file name becomes too long you may no longer have the context menu because shell32.dll si responsible for this one. You can however still copy/move/rename files when they go beyond the limit. Also if you prefer the command line you should use Yori http://www.malsmith.net/yori/ Yori is a replacement for cmd.exe and supports long path names even under NT3.5. Yori works even on Windows NT3.1 Keep in mind that when you copy files under Linux, ntfs3g does not generate short names and you have to regenerate them manually. I wrote a simple (ssname.exe) program to do it automatically https://github.com/RamonUnch/ssname I was always shocked that the explorer did not handle long path names when it has been possible on Windows NT since 1993.

Are you asking about just the service pack? If that's the case, then essentially "yes". The list of updates is still available at my site at https://twilczynski.com/windows. It's not the absolute latest though, as there are at least several more Windows XP POSReady and Server 2003 updates that could be ported, and of course there is the whole BlackWingCat's kernel with its all unofficial modifications. Also, many old Microsoft update links are no longer available. If you're still interested in the technicalities of building Windows updates and/or service packs, I'd suggest to look up old forum posts by Gurgelmeyer (the original creator of the USP 5), BlackWingCat, myself, and everything related to the unofficial SP4 for Windows XP. Unfortunately, the information is scattered all over the place, so you may need to spend some time on the research. It would be nice to have everything compiled into a single source, but it is what it is .

In my MinWin profile, by default, all files are deleted from the folder \Windows\PolicyDefinitions\ru-RU\ What should be done so that the files from the folder are not deleted? Tried in Windows.txt !\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\ru-RU\ But the folder is empty, these files are needed for gpedit.msc. Thank you.

Plus, I also think that v13.5 is basically "end of the line" for 360Chrome on XP. I hear rumors of another Chrome Fork in the works that would dethrone 360Chrome if the rumors are true. No, 109 is the last one that works on Windows 7. They introduced dll‘s that are only available in Windows 8+, but they also broke compatibility with Windows 8. If you try installing Chromium on Win8/8.1, the browser will start and then immediately close again. However, using —no-sandbox allows you to run the latest Chromium (110.5441) on Windows 8.1. I hope they will not break that one too.

You already know my point of view in terms of Russia or unwanted, hidden connectoins to whatever. I avoid connections to many countries if possible. Especially, if I need privacy, anonymity and security! OpenVPN has a huge impact on the CPU, but in the case you are equipped with a powerful CPU, it's no problem at all. In my Windows XP system works a single core CPU from 2000, and OpenVPN is not really a good choice. But it works! The native protocols of Winfows XP work much better and have a very small impact on the CPU. Simply great if still supported by a VPN service.
