  1. Eventually there will be better web browsing options available if we have enough patience. I mean with One Core API, Chrome 102 does already kind of work on XP, even though there is definitely a lot of work to do (extensions and downloads don't work, no sound, etc). Just a few years back no one would have imagined that we will ever have Firefox 52 running on Windows 98...

  2. I don't like that word. Make the following edits to resources.pak: in 25514, delete {"category":"Appearance","title":"Language:","storageType":"local","defaultValue":"zh-CN","reloadRequired":true,"settingName":"language","settingType":"enum","type":"setting","options":[{"text":"Chinese (Simplified)","value":"zh-CN","title":"Chinese (Simplified)"},{"text":"English (United States)","value":"en-US","title":"English (United States)"}]}, In 25615, delete this._initLocalizationSetting(), and _initLocalizationSetting(){p.Settings.instance().createSetting("language","zh-CN",p.SettingStorageType.Local).addChangeListener(()=>{location.reload()})} In 25624, replace function d(t){let e=t;return"undefined"!=typeof localStorage&&'"en-US"'!==localStorage.language&&(e=self.DevToolsLocalization.getString(t),e=e.replace(/\$./g,t=>t.match(/\$[$1-9]/)?"$$$"===t?"$":"%":t)),e} with function d(t){return t} The change will get rid of ever having to switch Dev Tools from Chinese to English (the setting is in fact removed from the dialog), including starting with your OOB profile or if the entire profile is nuked. This is based on 360ChromePortable_13.5.1030_rebuild_5_ungoogled.zip, but based on a quick look it's still fully applicable to 360ChromePortable_13.5.2022_rebuild_1_ungoogled_MSFN.zip.

  11. I don't understand what you always have to criticize about SAB and what all doesn't work. I have had no problems for what feels like an eternity and I am currently running Windows 11 DEV Insider Build 25247.1000. Turn off your 1000 additional tools for the appearance of Windows, then SAB can also work reasonably. Here in Germany we have a saying that says: "Many cooks spoil the broth" Apart from that, Microsoft has been working for several weeks on a new taskbar that brings here and there from home already times problems with it. Before I activate SAB, I always deactivate all special functions that the taskbar may have activated so that it has a state like a new installation. Then only activate the SAB and possibly make changes

  12. Some thing I have been work on in my very little free time. You know "Browservice" project right? He made a software that pushes endless stream of JPEG images to the browser that contain a website rendered by Chromium engine. Complete with fake address bar and front end JavaScript to capture keyboard and mouse. The idea sounds so ridiculous, so crazy, but it actually works on almost every OS and almost every old browser. Problem of "Browservice" is it doesn't feel convincing. IE constantly downloading images and status bar goes crazy (it appears that the memory leak exists). Also very slow when website has a animating. I did something similar but using RDP. Only for IE5 and IE6. Should work Win98/ME/2000/XP<SP3. I develop in XPSP2 IE6 and WinME IE 5.5 for now. Since it's ActiveX control, I am inside of IEXPLORE.EXE and have full control (that's how drive-by downloads installed spyware and virus back in the days). I use the power to intercept the menu, toolbar, address bar, status bar, etc. IE becomes only a bit of GUI under my control. All commands are redirected to remote server running Chromium engine there. RDP has the feature "Virtual Channel" to send messages (WTSVirtualChannelOpen etc.) My implementation so far browsing experience feels 99% like using real Internet Explorer because RDP protocol is much faster and get clipboard support, access to local hard drive, sound, video streaming, etc. for free by Microsoft. Unfortunately still very early in development. Downloads not yet work. History not yet work. Popup window not yet work (very difficult). But I hope that in a few months from now good old Win9x and Win2000 can join a modern Internet again. Backend in C#. Frontend in Visual Basic 6 with OLEEXP and patched SSUBTMR (just to prove it can be done, but it is painful). Maybe you will say that's the fake screenshot. Okay, you can do it. I don't have the argument at the moment. But soon I hope to show it running on real hardware.

  13. Thank you @mina7601 ... very much appreciate that you took the time to verify that for me. I've been doing some reading about this and the holes and just how important it is to be (at least) behind a good router. I've also been researching on how to *harden* this service (when enabled, of course) and I'm unsure to make changes since I'm clueless about this. Any thoughts?

  24. Punches and kicks in the head - teenagers beat up girls in Karlsruhe 11/21/2022, 1:18:52 PM By: Ines Baur A beating attack between several girls is said to have taken place at a subway station in Karlsruhe. It is not yet known where, when and who the perpetrators or victims are. (Iconic image) © Philipp von Ditfurth/dpa/archive image Pictures of a beating attack in a subway station in Karlsruhe are circulating online. You can see two teenage girls brutally beating another teenager. The police are following up leads. Karlsruhe/Munich – There are shocking scenes that can be seen on Twitter: In a subway station in Karlsruhe, two adolescent girls pull another girl by the hair, hit and kick her. The attacked is just trying to protect himself. Only when one of the perpetrators kicks the victim lying on the ground on the head does the other perpetrator intervene. According to the Badische Neuste Nachrichten, a reference to the incident came from the Karlsruhe House of Youth Rights. So the incident has a history. Details are not known. Beating teenagers, a number of passers-by often just watch Just as shocking as the scene itself is that a number of passers-by watched the attack without doing anything. "The frightening thing about this video is that nobody intervenes, the victim's suffering is still being filmed and the victim is kicked to the head while he is lying on the ground," tweeted one user. Again and again there are attacks, acts of violence and brutal fights among young people. In the summer, a teenager was attacked and kicked by several other teenagers in the English Garden in Munich. Video has been circulating online since the weekend – the police are critical of the spread According to Echo 24, the police are critical of the fact that the distribution of the video means that relevant criminal matters are being discussed and commented on publicly. That is primarily the task of the judiciary. It is possible that the video could help to identify the perpetrators, it is said. But the dissemination by third parties without a witness call from the police makes little sense. 25. Content Security Policy -Introduction - Why CSP - Strict CSP - Adopting CSP - FAQ - Resources Introduction Content Security Policy is a mechanism designed to make applications more secure against common web vulnerabilities, particularlycross-site scripting. It is enabled by setting the Content-Security-Policy HTTP response header. The core functionality of CSP can be divided into three areas: Requiring that all scripts are safe and trusted by the application owner (ideally by making sure they match an unpredictable identifier specified in the policy called the CSP nonce), Ensuring that page resources, such as images, stylesheets, or frames, are loaded from trusted sources, Miscellaneous other security features: preventing the application from being framed by untrusted domains, transparently upgrading all resource requests to HTTPS, and others. By adopting a strict policy, which prevents the loading of untrusted scripts or plugins, an application can add an important defense-in-depth layer against markup injection attacks. This documentation focuses on the XSS mitigation aspect of CSP because XSS is one of the most common and dangerous web vulnerabilities. An application can define a policy by setting the following header: Content-Security-Policy: default-src https:; script-src 'nonce-{random}'; object-src 'none' This policy will require all resources to be loaded over HTTPS, allow only <script> elements with the correct nonce attribute, and prevent loading any plugins. Note: Real policies are a bit more complicated for compatibility and security reasons; see this example. CSP support is available in several popular template systems and frameworks (for example, Closure Templates can automatically add CSP nonces). Several helper tools can assist you in building a secure policy, identifying any necessary markup changes, and monitoring the effects of the policy after deployment. What should I do now? ... Usually from bed to the sofa to the bathroom to the sofa and back to bed. Very much a broken record. I don't know That is great, luckily its pretty quiet here at night.

  27. First read and then write is always a good idea: This thread is about VPN in Windows XP. Nice cat, but unfortunately, completely misplaced and off-topic! And by the way, I already have a cat, and I do really know what to do with my time if I'm not wasting it in unnecessary posts. But in this case, I'm going to make an exception, just for you. I hope you appreciate that.

  29. You should first use the search function before posting such "news"! The problem has been known for years. It has nothing to do with Legacy Update. MU and WU show the same misbehaviour. So I chose KB4486463 as a dummy update in one of my fixes long ago: Therefore, nothing new in the West! You seem to have used the AU/WU service never before. Otherwise, you'd have noticed that misbehaviour long time ago.

  40. Unfortunately, Chrome 49 is an old, abandoned browser. There is no one who will fix or modify such old Chrome browsers. Therefore, I don't think that this will ever be fixed. The only hope is that it can be fixed by a polyfill script or an extension like Chromefill if it can be done with that. At the moment, however, the Chromefill extension does not even solve the problems with GitHub. It would have to be updated considerably, which has probably not been the case recently. So all in all, there is little hope.

  46. Restoring of the AU notification popup shield in Windows XP by @AstroSkipper Last week I was engaged in troubleshooting regarding AU in Windows XP. In my system AU notification popup shield always worked in the past. In February I disabled AU and it disappeared as usual. But last week, after I had enabled AU again, it didn't appear in systray although an important update was found by MU. I could restore it exactly for one Windows session. After restart it didn't work anymore. I had to find out what was going wrong in my system. And I found presumably the cause of this problem, a not properly working Windows system service called BITS. Many Windows users have a lot of problems due to a malfunction of this service. It should be started by system if necessary. But this doesn't happen in all cases. As I already recommended in my "Complete guide for restoring IE's access to WU/MU website using ProxHTTPSProxy or HTTPSProxy in Windows XP", item 2 of General solutions's list, step 3 system service BITS has to be started for a working WU/MU/AU. But very often Windows doesn't do that. Therefore I created a fix to restore AU functionality and missing notification shield. Here is the link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/6cvbrxg17oth5pz/FixAUWinXP.7z/file. Credits to @AstroSkipper. This fix is no virus and doesn't contain any malware. I know that because I am the creator. If you have problems with your security scanner, add this fix to AV's exclusion list. Scanned by Avast with no results. My fix performs a couple of tasks to eliminate typical problems preventing a popup of notification shield: restoring proper functionality of system services BITS, wuauserv and Cryptsvc, setting system to "No proxy", copying a system file to AU selfupdate, setting AU to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them", triggering AU to detect updates, improving communication between client and server. Finally it restarts system. Here is a screenshot showing the restored notification shield and a window of an important update offered by AU in my Windows XP system: Fix was tested and is working in my system. Additionally AU can be triggered to show notification shield if it hasn't popped up yet: 1. Check if system service BITS is running. If not, start it. 2. Search for updates using MU website in IE and ProxHTTPSProxy. When searching has been finished, close IE. 3. Uninstall update KB4486463 (2019-02 Security Update for WES09 and POSReady 2009 for x86-based Systems (KB4486463)). 4. Restart computer. 5. After restart check once again if system service BITS is running. If not, start it. 6. AU notification shield should pop up. If not, trigger AU by executing two commands: wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow and then wuauclt /reportnow. 7. Now AU notification shield should pop up finally and showing missing update KB4486463. 8. Install offered update KB4486463 via AU. If update KB4486463 doesn't exist in your system or you don't use POSReady trick, choose another unimportant update which was recently installed.
