Added UNS status to AnnyStudio Just Color Picker, as Vista is not listed as a supported platform on the website, but the latest version still works fine (v5.6 as of Oct. 2022). 3. @Taiga-chan AFAIK, you need to install Palefill extension to be able to use that website. I'm not a registered user there so can't tell if any additional issues have appeared since the compatibility problem due to lack of support for Web Components in the browser has been addressed with that extension.

  4. The name does not matter, just add a .txt file to \Tools\MinWin\Default\Remove folder. There is nothing hard coded, profile should be entirely under control of the user.

  5. Remove Winamp from the list, as version 5.9 requires Windows 7 as the minimum OS.

  6. Work on Email Clients and PDF Viewers sections is now complete! Thankfully, most entries still have ongoing support for Vista, so not too much was lost this go around SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO THE LIST FOR OCTOBER 6, 2022: Removed ONG status for Claws Mail; added Claws Mail 3.16.0 as last version for Windows Vista. Added UNS status for Pegasus Mail, since the official website claims that only Windows 7 or later are supported, but it continues to work on Vista, fortunately. Removed Open Live Writer from the list, as the latest version does not work for me on Vista, throwing an APPCRASH error upon attempting to launch. I tested the software on build 6002 as well to insure it wasn't broken with build 6003, and the error occurs there as well. The software appears to be abandoned anyway (no updates since 2017). Removed ONG status from Foxit PDF Reader & Foxit PhantomPDF; added Foxit PDF Reader & PhantomPDF v9.2.0.9297 as last version for Windows Vista. 10. I did quite a bit of work on Antivirus/Security section. Unfortunately, the options for Vista have only dwindled over the course of 2021 and 2022 Maybe the community could help find new additions for this section? SUMMARY OF CHANGES TO THE LIST FOR OCTOBER 2, 2022: Removed Avast AntiTrack, as Windows Vista and earlier are no longer supported by the product. Removed all Bullguard products, as Bullguard was purchased by Norton in 2021 and the products are no longer sold under the Bullguard brand name. As a result, Windows Vista is no longer supported by Bullguard. Removed Comodo Cloud Antivirus, as it was discontinued and merged with Comodo Internet Security. Removed Cybergenic Shade Sandbox as it now requires Windows 10 or later, and the last version for Vista appears to be unavailable. Removed ONG status from Comodo Cloud Scanner and added version number of the final version, as the software has not been updated since 2010. Removed ONG status from Comodo Antivirus for Servers, as the software has not been updated in at least a decade (since Server 2012 is listed as the latest supported version of Windows Server for the product). Listed Comodo Free Antivirus & Comodo Internet Security v12.0.0.6870 as last version for Windows Vista (according to this support article). Removed CryptoPrevent Anti-Malware entirely, as the latest version does NOT work on Windows Vista, and no documentation exists anywhere on the end of XP/Vista support, nor is the final version available anywhere from my findings. Removed G-Data "Business Solutions" in favor of G Data Security Client, which continues to support Vista (and XP). Renamed "HouseCall" entry to HouseCall Online Scanner, as that is the only HouseCall product to still support Windows Vista. Removed Jetico Personal Firewall, as the software has not been updated since 2016 and appears to be abandoned. Removed ONG status from KeePass; listed v1.38 as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit & Malwarebytes Chameleon, as the products appear to have been merged with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware within the past few years, meaning they're no longer supported on Windows Vista. Removed the information regarding Norton definition updates ending in 2021, as it appears that it continues to receive definition updates on Vista as of October 2022. Listed OSArmor 1.6.0 as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed NoVirusThanks Anti-AutoExec as it was discontinued at some point since it was added to the list. Removed NoVirusThanks SysHardener & Registry Guard/Guard service as they're no longer supported on Windows Vista and the last versions are not available online anywhere from what I can find. Removed Prey Anti-Theft as it no longer works on Vista due to missing functions and the last version appears to be unavailable (ResolveLocaleName error). Removed RogueKiller Anti-Malware as it no longer works on Vista due to missing functions and the last version appears to be unavailable (K32GetModuleInformation error). Removed ONG status from SystemShield Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware products, listed v5.0.0.136 as the last version for Windows Vista. Listed Vipre Antivirus v10.x as the last version for Windows Vista. Removed Webroot as the last version for Windows Vista cannot be found online and is not documented anywhere. The software now requires Windows 7 SP1 or later, according to the Webroot website. No trial versions are available for testing either from my findings. Fixed broken download link for Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit v5.52.

  11. Hi there! It's nice to see you again. Hope you're doing well I will be testing everything on a fully updated Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 virtual machine, including all Server 2008 updates to January 2020, so it will be at build 6003. If I run into any problems, I'll have a separate VM with build 6002 to test the software to ensure the problems aren't related to build 6003. And thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot I'll do the best I can. Working on the Antivirus/Security software section now!

  12. Well, I just updated the list for the first time in nearly 2 years. I've managed to fix all broken download links in the Web browsers section, and added Mypal 68.x. I've decided to prevent myself from becoming overwhelmed/burned out, I'm just going to take it one section at a time each day until the list is complete. I'm so glad to finally get around to doing this after such a long time. Thank you everyone for your patience, compassion and understanding.

  13. Hello everyone. I must extend my sincere apologies for being inactive here this year. My life has changed dramatically over the past year, from walking away from a toxic relationship, to putting myself through therapy to recover from the trauma that it caused me, to finding someone new, to working at the Post Office every day and that taking up most of my energy (as @LoneCrusader can relate ) the time has just gotten away from me, and I haven't made the time that I should have to keep this list up to date. With that being said, I am setting up a virtual machine of stock (NO extended kernel) Windows Vista to test software on, and continuing my obligation of providing Vista users with the best and most up-to-date resource available when it comes to running their favorite software on their preferred operating system. I am going to go through nearly every entry still listed as ONG as of October 2020, and find out which ones no longer fit the label of ONG, and try to narrow down exactly the final versions of these pieces of software to run on Vista, and list them here accordingly. I will also be going through and fixing every broken link I can find, as I'm sure a lot of them have stopped working over the past couple of years. Thank you all so much for your patience and understanding. I hope everyone here is happy, healthy & doing well! (Screenshot of VM so you know I'm serious about this :

  15. "take what you read on the internet with a grain of salt and as for entertainment purpose." @XPerceniol Motto: Modern psychiatry is the greatest con on earth... the bare truth is that psychiatry isn't a science at all and it isn't even an art. Psychiatry: Black Magic Masquerading as Science Modern psychiatry is the greatest con on earth. Psychiatrists and general practitioners have become increasingly enthusiastic about drug therapy in recent decades. They claim that they can treat a wide range of disorders with psychotropic drugs, and so a goodly portion of the nation now regularly gulps down happy tablets. The startling result is that the incidence of mental health problems is increasing. Officially, one in two people in Britain is incurably mentally ill. Yes, you read that correctly. One in two people in Britain is incurably mentally ill. In other countries, including the United States, the figure is similar or worse. Some of those people are classified as mentally ill because they cannot cope with the modern world. Some are classified as mentally ill because they fit new criteria for mental illness (they have symptoms which are now regarded as indicative of mental illness). And some of those who are classified as mentally ill have been made ill by the reckless prescribing of powerful and dangerous drugs. (Despite this, the number of hospital beds available for mental health patients is constantly shrinking. This is, of course, because the mentally ill make an ineffective lobby and have almost no political clout. Politicians quickly bow to drug industry pressures because providing hospital beds costs more money than providing mind numbing drugs which turn patients into zombies.) But the bare truth is that psychiatry isn't a science at all and it isn't even an art. It’s more of a confidence trick; a collegiate confidence trick with pretensions of grandeur. Psychiatrists often claim that the drugs they prescribe are designed to correct chemical imbalances in the brain. But the simple fact is that there is no evidence that there is any such thing as `chemical imbalance'. Ask any psychiatrist about this and he will agree that `chemical imbalance' is a still unproven theory. It's never even been properly tested so how could it ever be proven? So how can psychiatrists and drug companies possibly treat the problems which they claim are caused by `chemical imbalance'? The bald truth is that psychiatry is no more a science than witchcraft. It is a perfect example of pseudoscience running riot. Cinema legend Samuel Goldwyn was right when he said that anybody who goes to see a psychiatrist ought to have his head examined. A big part of the problem lies in the fact that modern medical thinking is based upon the Cartesian principle that the mind and the body can be treated separately. The modern clinician still does not see the mind and the body as a single unit (that is why orthodox practitioners don't believe in holistic medicine) and this leaves the way open for psychiatrists to play around with the human mind as though it were a completely separate entity. Psychiatrists won’t tell you this (because it is, to say the least, rather embarrassing) but a large study of randomly selected psychiatric patients showed that approximately three quarters (75%) of the patients had been wrongly diagnosed. And no one could be sure that the remaining 25% had been properly diagnosed, or were receiving appropriate treatment. The medication prescribed is often no more effective than a placebo. In many cases patients are diagnosed as having - and are then treated for - serious psychiatric problems when their symptoms are caused by drugs they have been given for physical problems or for other mental problems. Whole wards full of patients have been diagnosed, treated and classified as suffering from schizophrenia when they were actually suffering from side effects produced by the drugs they had been given by prescription happy doctors. The idea that anyone would describe psychiatry as a science is utterly absurd. Nothing that psychiatrists claim as `fact' can be proved by any means recognised by scientists; there are no proper controls and if an experiment is repeated, it rarely produces the same result. Let me be clear: there are no facts in psychiatry, only convenient commercial assumptions. The ultimate absurdity is the fact that psychiatrists claim that only they are fit to judge the effectiveness of their recommendations. Psychiatry is black magic masquerading as science. - by Dr Vernon Coleman MB ChB DSc HERE: https://vernoncoleman.org/articles/psychiatry-black-magic-masquerading-science ..and another voice: "Psychiatry... the facile and destructive hoax" ! - Psychologist Philip Hickey, Ph.D. Why Psychiatry Should Be Abolished as a Medical Specialty Wayne Ramsay, J.D. "The fact is that this institution of psychiatry has just done monstrous, monstrous inestimable harm through its several hundred year existence." Peter R. Breggin, M.D., a psychiatrist, "The Dr. Peter Breggin Hour — 10.03.18" (October 3, 2018 at 58:45 point) "Psychiatry is failing because it is everywhere being exposed as the facile and destructive hoax that it is." Psychologist Philip Hickey, Ph.D., "Psychiatry Bashing", Behaviorism and Mental Health, March 7, 2016. "PSYCHIATRY is an emperor standing naked in his new clothes. It has striven for 70 years to become an emperor, a full brother with the other medical specialties. And now it stands there resplendent in its finery. But it does not have any clothes on, and even worse, nobody has told it so. To tell an emperor that he does not have any clothes on has never been advocated as the best way to win friends. The alternative, however, is equally painful, for you must then become part of the general delusion."— Psychiatrist E. Fuller Torrey, M.D., in the Preface to his book The Death of Psychiatry(Penguin Books 1974) "Psychiatry remains as reluctant as ever to recognize the devastating impact of its treatments upon the minds and brains of its patients." Psychiatrist Peter R. Breggin, M.D., "Coercion of Voluntary Patients in an Open Hospital", Archives of General Psychiatry 10 (1964):173-181 (1982 note), available at breggin.com) Psychiatry should be abolished as a medical specialty because medical school education is not needed nor even helpful for doing counselling or so-called psychotherapy, because the perception of mental illness as a biological entity is mistaken, because psychiatry's "treatments" other than counselling or psychotherapy (drugs, electroshock, and psychosurgery) hurt rather than help people, because nonpsychiatric physicians are better able than psychiatrists to treat real brain disease, and because nonpsychiatric physicians' acceptance of psychiatry as a medical specialty is a poor reflection on the medical profession as a whole... ... 16. Finally, some good news! After a faulty 1.367.4xx.0 series of WD definitions, which included buggy mpasdlta.vdm files of versions 1.367.413.0, 1.367.415.0, 1.367.423.0, 1.367.432.0, 1.367.435.0, 1.367.447.0, 1.367.457.0, 1.367.472.0, 1.367.487.0, 1.367.491.0, WD defs of v1.367.494.0 and higher are, once again, "OK", i.e. they no longer cause WD's Windows service to crash under Vista SP2 ; series "5xx" is already "out", I successfully ran a "Quick Scan" with v1.367.502.0 : ... I won't go as far as saying that MS staff monitor this thread (), but either via internal testing or via some other party reporting it to them, the issue has been identified and mitigated... Until the next c*ck up and until Jan 2023 (when I expect WD+MSE standalone defs to be retired by MS) ...

  17. As said, I cannot confirm (nor deny) anything, I am only pointing you at the little I know on the matter, based on what I read here and there. All the evidence I could find point to the conclusion that the "switch" between IDE and AHCI/SATA needs to happen in the BIOS, whether this needs a modified BIOS or can be triggered (I presume only on some BIOSes/chipsets, not on all of them, but the given resource is actually about the specific ICH-7) via direct editing/poke the PCI settings, at least for Linux. Both the above possibilities are rather low-level and complex, which makes me believe that a much simpler, I would dare to say obvious, solutions such as a Registry edit or the modification of a .inf file cannot possibly work. I have NO idea on how a IDE, let alone SATA/AHCI driver actually works, but I presume that loosely at every request from the OS it checks something (the 8-bit MAP—Address Map Register at offset 0x90 in the PCI area of the *whatever* hold these data) and, depending on what it finds there, issues this (or that) slightly different command, and likely the chips themselves additionally check that value/register. This said, I wouldn't exclude that if you look at your PC with enough intensity (evil eye ) you can switch the settings, but I would classify that event as highly improbable . jaclaz
