  1. I am inclined to agree with that. Reports of limited improvement could be an example of the placebo effect.

  2. This information was added on 31 August 2021 https://betawiki.net/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_build_6003&oldid=153735 I understand that it might look suspicious when someone's first post looks like mine . In my opinion the extended kernel should target Windows Vista with 6003 and SHA-2 updates but without KB4341832, KB4090450 and KB4089229 - meltdown/spectre patches that slow down the CPU. Also, I have an AMD Ryzen PC so if @win32 decides to make a patch for Ryzen problems I can test it and send some logs.

  3. Do you really need Doom updated to enjoy it? The work of GZ was complete when the game was ported. Original games don't receive many patches and can continue to be played. Problems sometimes arise if you want to run them on very new systems, which XP is not. I don't understand the hatred expressed towards older Windows by developers who work on even more obsolete games. They wouldn't appreaciate posts on their forum saying how Doom sucked.

  4. I suggest using a PORTABLE LOADER even with all of Roytam releases (similar to how my 360Chrome releases use a portable loader). For all of Roytam releases, use the official portable version from here -- http://archive.palemoon.org/palemoon/28.x/28.2.2/ I personally use only the 32bit version even on my 64bit systems. Do not "exectute" the file after you download it (the file name is Palemoon-Portable-28.2.2.win32.exe). Do not download the "latest and greatest" (it will not work on XP, if I recall, unsure). Extract the file into its own folder using 7zip or similar. Delete all of the files in the Bin folder and replace with your Roytam files for whichever browser you wish to run as portable. If it's a Basilisk or BNav browser, just rename the executable to palemoon.exe or dig through the .ini and edit accordingly. You'll have to learn a new portable loader .ini format but well worth it - I always run all of my browsers using a loader and .ini. You can copy your existing profile into the portable loader file structure, the default profile for a NM/PM is in User -> PaleMoon -> Profiles -> Default. I also do this for added security, my OS doesn't have a "default browser" and the OS can't open what it thinks is the "default browser" because the executable file no longer exists.

  5. You should keep separate profiles for 27 and 28, otherwise your shared profile will (probably) get corrupted because of the various changes between versions. Start "palemoon.exe -P" to bring up the profile manager.

  6. Is a very bad driver , in my personal experience. Would you consider trying out 347.25? One of the best drivers for XP ! 347.09 is very good too.

  7. + to this issue i also have came across another one, its explained in screenshot reg entry was: REG ADD "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Chat" /f /v ChatIcon /t REG_DWORD /d 3 OR can we have an options to edit taskbar rightclick context menu? for startisback and startallback? because on windows 10 we also have bunch of stupid things there such as: windowsINK and contacts. that i already removed as component as i did to widgets and chats. and they are still there? this feature for both products would be necessary don't you think? after all we are making taskbar configurable and easy to use without unnecessary things via your tools. and afaik they can't be edited via reg file they are inside dll?

  8. I do not recommend UEFI multi-booting Windows Vista, 7, and 11. I tried so last night and while 7 and 11 loaded up just fine, Vista Blue screened with 0x01E. Keep in mind I was doing this on Ivy Bridge with a Windows 10 ISO that had 11's Install.wim. I suspect it might have something to do with 11's UEFI files. Regardless, I reinstalled the Vista and 7 dual-boot I had and am fine (this also allowed me to use a different extended kernel compatible/Vista ISO that actually had nothing broken or missing). So, let this be your warning to not multi-boot Vista and 11 with UEFI unless you know of a way to make it work without a 0x01E BSOD when booting into Vista. I should clarify that BIOS (MBR) multi-boot works just fine. I currently have a multi-boot of Vista, 7, 8.1, and 11 on an Acer Aspire A315-21 and nothing is wrong with it so far.

  9. Huh, so the Focus PX was too noisy, even with that Fanless Mode button? I was just looking at Seasonic's page on that model and it says it's a successor to the model my computer's power supply uses. So I suppose the problems would be the same (or worse) if you had sought out the model I've got. If noise is an issue, have you thought about fanless PSUs? I know SeaSonic makes one, though @Mr.Scienceman2000 would be the guy to say whether or not it's any good I think. Outside of really generic brands like Sparkle Power or something, I'm not sure if any manufacturers still make old-style unpainted power supplies with a fan grill instead of a mesh panel. Corsair's most basic offering right now appears to be the VS series, which have basic levels of power efficiency. But even those feature a black finish, mesh panel instead of fan grill, and sleeved cables. Even Antec's EarthWatts line appears to have gone for that aesthetic, though it looks like Newegg still sells the ones that were painted green and have a fan grill instead of mesh panel. Which, I suppose, would be pretty novel. But then we're getting into aesthetics instead of function and performance. If you really want to go for older style power supplies, though, you might want to look for one you can repair and maintain. I don't know how easy it is to do with newer power supplies, but given the [H]ard forum had people talking about recapping older power supplies, it should be possible. Thin clients are a good option, too. I'd poked around Parky Towers before looking to see what's out there, and some of those models have amazing low power consumption! I wonder how they do with thermals, though. I know that commercial routers can have problems with overheating, so I thought one fix (once I finally have a place of my own!) would be to just take matters into my own hands.

  10. some 6th gen cpus matches performance of 8th gen intel cpu and that requiment is artificial by for needing that TPM chip for no good reason. I know Windows 11 been running fine on 2007 dual xeon board since @Dave-H mentioned from it on another topic. Whole system requiment thing is to milk off more from users

  11. Wow, you weren't kidding. People like that Rachael admin are a massive turnoff. I've had the displeasure of seeing people like that well before Microsoft ended support for Windows XP, but as soon as tech journalists began trumpeting the "death" of the OS it seemed like they turned out in droves. It's really irritating to see such attitudes involving old games, too, such as DooM. (The most obnoxious example I recall was in 2014ish when the 90's SNK arcade run-and-gun Metal Slug got ported to Steam, but did not support XP. Some doofus snarkily mocked disappointed XP users with "What about MS-DOS support?! What about Windows 3.1 support?!!!" even though, y'know, the game was ahem "ported" to such OSes in the past.) By comparison Graf Zahl at least provides some rationale for the decision, even if I disagree with it. You could try seeing if XomPie would get the newer versions of GZDoom running on XP, though from what it sounds like the real solution would involve the projects to implement the API/libraries/features in the newer Windows versions.

  12. It has been computer maintenance weekend for me. I was planning on installing 40mm Noctua into TNT2, but noticed screws in current fan were too short so need go hardware store look bit longer ones. So anyway here is how it look now from inside. And yes SSD is not mounted best way but I had no hdd caddy to case and it is better let it move around freely. I chewed front fan casing a bit because whole design was stupid for airflow. It had few tiny holes resulting low or none airflow on intake. Rest of fans are noctuas. I kinda like older Power supplies more for having non sleeved cables that takes less space, but I cannot cut those Then was able to find decent way read YLE news and weather reports and emergency alerts under retrozilla. This most applies to Finnish users but Yle got text version from teletext online that renders without issues with JS disabled. I mostly use that to check weather, weather alerts, stocks and sport results and seems good. Shame site needs HTTPS that may break access to it on future under Windows 98. I am not saying HTTPS is useless and should not be used on any sites with user information, but I see no reason force HTTPS only from server side to text based sites. There is HTTPS enforcement addons to browsers and modern browsers got feature built in so why server side need force it? And excuse modern browsers support HTTPS is good reason to lock out any non HTTPS users if bad. Not all operating or even hardware can handle HTTPS. And who knows what upcoming tls libraries will require new cpu instructions or even worse TMP chip like Win11 locking out anything older. Big corpos could it if they want. That also reminds me from one email I sent to webmaster year ago. One finnish site had WML (Wireless markup language) site along simple HTML site. WML/WAP is meant to handheld devices like older mobile devices like cellphones and PDA and was golden standard before new WBML (web bloat markup language) aka HTML5 came into play. That site WAP page allowed to download old ringtones and operator logos to nokias and read site owner forum or even post there. However I noticed how all download links gave secure connection failure error on phone. I checked WML site code and noticed links were HTTPS instead of HTTP despite site offering HTTP fallback. After I sent email to webmaster which had last time been updated in 2011, was surprised he actually answered me and fixed that issue. Reason to it was since today Google seems lower site on index if it got HTTP so or mixed contect so he batch update whole site and broke wap page by accident. That site is working again thanks to my email to webmaster. So now websites will drop on search index it they got no https. That will make many search results wrong. What is site that google dropped on index for no HTTPS got exactly answer I am looking for and I cannot find it? Again I am not saying HTTPS is useless but some seems go religious over it that service seems malfunction atleast on finnish Windows XP. I have tried it on both professional and home edition SP3 with or without updates. I guess it could be localised issue

  13. I would probably phrase it as, a developer un-crippling newer versions of Flash. It's still Adobe releasing them, but they're region-restricted to only run in China, and of course they have all the China-mandated spyware. Darktohka is stripping all that out so the rest of the world can use the updated (and presumably more secure, although who really knows) versions. But it's still Adobe's copyrighted product, and legally, they have the right to say "no" to what darktohka is doing. You'd think they wouldn't care - if folks are that determined to keep using their free product, why not let them - but maybe they made an agreement with the other members of the "Anti-Flash" consortium (chiefly Google, I suspect) to do everything they can to keep this old, not particularly secure, but popular browser plug-in dead & buried outside of China.
