  1. You can try my Vista compatible rebuild. Though some specific functionality may still be missing. Patches required to get the latest version 3.16 to compile with MinGW32 included. I have a repo with old Rufus code on GitHub, wanted to publish it there, but they changed something about the login procedure. Maybe I'll figure it out some other time. rufus-3.16.zip

  2. Could you send a link to Microsoft's statement regarding this subject ?

  3. E8400 is kinda bare minimum these days. Spyware on your mobo is built into the chipset , not the core 2 duo itself . I wouldn't even bother wasting thermal paste on e5500 , etc. Just use a LAN card [which is not made by Intel] and you'll be fine , unless MI6/FBI/CIA/KGB get their hands on your PC physically .

  5. @Dixel Hi, I tried installing the 373.19 driver for Vista/7/8 on my Windows 7 PC for now and it looks like the 'Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050TI' driver is not compatible with my Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050TI GPU. The popup says that 'It's not recommended to install this diver, because Windows cannot determinate if it's compatible with the owned hardware. If its not compatible, than...' (translated). This most likely means that the hardware IDs are not consistent.

  6. Yeah sorry I didn't see that. I've just installed it on my Haswell laptop and nothings blown up yet so hopefully it stays like that https://imgur.com/hWcrUOd

  9. Aware, still in-process. Yesterday's update was roughly 2.5 hours modifying a known 371 files out of 4,188 extensionless files inside en-us.pak based solely on differences between v13.0 original versus my v13.0 modified. The remaining 3,817 extensionless files still need investigated as to whether they contain broken English or are fine as-is. I personally take the approach of my v11, my v12, my v13, and now my v13.5 to all contain the exact same English phrases, I do not want a setting phrased differently in one version to the next, they should all be identical. The en-us.pak contains another 124 .json files I have not looked at yet. Aware, still in-process. This really is a very long and time-consuming process. Have not done any modifications to GUI as of yet. oops... Will correct in next alpha release. I will leave this at the discretion of the end-user. I'm not a "gamer" and WebGL poses potential security risks which outweigh (in my view) the need for graphics features seldom seen in Top 500 web sites. I seem to recall that one has to search far and wide just to find any web site that uses WebGL, it doesn't seem to be very common and users that do require it are advanced users with the know-how to add it back in. In-process, have not gotten that far yet.

  10. That worked, thanks! No more having to log into 7 just to use that. Also, Haswell does not seem to be fully fixed, even with the 6003 update. I didn't get most of the errors people reported, but sometimes when doing things that require administrative permissions (UAC), it may pop up an error message, but be just fine second try. I also just rebooted. It showed the start orb and the welcome screen, but now is stuck on a black screen with the mouse. I'd take Haswell+ use with a grain of salt still. I should note that it is not the ISO as it worked just fine on my AMD Radeon R4 with no issues of the Haswell+ variety with that processor. EDIT: I think user error on my end is causing the issues. I don't believe I actually have the update that fixes the issue installed. I will install said update tomorrow and will report back on what happens.

  11. I can confirm that these issues are fixed with that update. Installation went smoothly after I reseated the USB (I accidentally cleaned that instead of the GPT HDD in diskpart and had to recreate, but kept getting an error) due to the "Required DVD/CD driver is missing" error even though I was plugged into the USB 2.0 ports. There is an ISO that has this update integrated, but I can't link to it directly. I will tell you that you can find it over at board.eclipse.cx within the Vista forum there (If linking to that site is not allowed, please let me know). This ISO is recommended rather than using one that doesn't have the update and encountering those errors. This ISO should also make it easier to install Vista under UEFI mode, of which I wrote a tutorial here and at Eclipse as well.

  12. Ah, sorry, should be hwinfo32:* instead. Basically, get the initial identifier (it was hwinfo32:Afx400000b100116102bd in your case) and replace everything after colon with asterisk. I changed the algorithm which generates identifier. Now there should be a colon before TrusteerNotificationAreaMsgBox (like :TrusteerNotificationAreaMsgBox). Identifier follows this format: EXENAME:CLASSNAME, where EXENAME is a lower case name of executable file without extension (like hwinfo32, eudora, etc), and CLASSNAME is a simplified window class name. EXENAME may be empty like in case of Trusteer (so it will be just :CLASSNAME). CLASSNAME can be * which matches any class (EXENAME:*). (There are special cases for explorer:ConnectionsTray and explorer:SystemTrayMain, which have extra field in their identifiers, but that's another story.) This is what I find wrong with identifiers… EXENAMEs should always be in lower case (plexMediaServer should become plexmediaserver), and CLASSNAMEs are simplified (they surely shouldn't contain underscores, so _SearchTrayIconClass_ should become SearchTrayIconClass). Can you check they're the same in the log?

  17. Bye, bye, GomPlayer! It flew off my hard drive last week. The old VLC 0.8.6 uses more codecs it feels like. And it plays DVDs so nicely. Unfortuneatly some DVDs have a bigger capacity with a higher resolution, so that they are too much for the old computer. Animes are better too, as they don't look too different when skipping frames. Windows 98 and multitasking... of course it isn't perfect, but if the programs in use are good ones, nothing holds you back from opening Winmap 2.95 for listening to music, a photo editor (PhotoImpact for example), a couple of folders, Word 97 or Notepad++, WinSCP for making FTP connections and a web browser like Netscape at the same time! The old Winamp is the most important program in that heap, because before that I used something called "ProFiler" for listening to music. That program was capable of much more, but was truly inefficent for listening to music... For a good performance, don't mind maximising your RAM, too. Old SDRAM is at the absolute low-point of price now. I optimised my setup, put in only the best RAM that I had (and that the mainboard supports), and got like a 8% speed boost in compiling my programming scripts.
