  1. It does, as the Eclipse 2020-12 IDE does call win7 functions through its JRE. I believe it's using JRE 14 or 15. Worked perfect.

  2. JDK 16 bundles JRE 16; Java compiled apps will just use the JRE, as pointed out by @SigmaTel71 ... AFAIK, Oracle no longer supply standalone JRE installers past JRE 8 (8u291 is the latest official release); as you might already know, 32-bit support was also dropped past 8 ...

  3. Without JDK?.. Why would the game require JDK while most applications rely on Runtime Environment (JRE)?

  4. Summary: For a long time, there have been 2 choices for extended kernels and both of them have their exclusives that aren't present in the other extended kernel. WildBill's extended kernel has many exclusive ntdll functions, SxS support, and a few exclusive functions in other files. BlackWingCat's extended kernel has many exclusive kernel32 functions (and some in other files). The big issue is that ntdll and kernel32 cannot be mixed, forcing people to choose between a better kernel32 or a better ntdll. The main goal of KernelXE is to eliminate this issue. ⚠️ This is beta software. Don't expect it to be stable. ⚠️ KernelXE Lite: KernelXE Lite is a smaller and reduced version of KernelXE that only contains files that are stable and compatible with BlackWingCat's extended kernel. KernelXE Lite is not compatible with full KernelXE and is meant to be installed on top of BlackWingCat's extended kernel. rv1 changes: Added custom BlackWingCat ntdll.dll with RtlIpv6StringToAddressExW and RtlSetLastWin32Error. ⚠️ Make sure to install the WildBill Update Collection BEFORE KernelXE. It is required and your system will be unbootable if you install KernelXE first. ⚠️ Downloads: KernelXE v0.2.4.2 KernelXE v0.2.5-rv1 Lite WildBill Update Collection The future of KernelXE and what I have been doing: As kernel32 grew, problems started to occur, like blank spaces in code, bugged code, and not enough space to add certain things. I decided to re-extend kernel32. This means redoing the entirety of .patch, which is where all non-Microsoft code is stored. Specifically in kernel32, I haven't had enough space in .data to add the data needed for some LCID related functions that are extremely commonly used in programs. I have already re-extended gdi32, and I may re-extend some other file if I need to. There won't be a new release of KernelXE for a long time, but when it finally comes, KernelXE may actually be a suitable alternative to BlackWingCat's extended kernel. Changelog: Public Beta 1: Initial Public Release Public Beta 2: Exported real CreateActCtxW as CreateActCtxB to prevent explorer.exe crashing. Added CreateActCtxW stub to take care of programs that call it while fixing the real function. Moved QueryUnbiasedInterruptTime, SetThreadStackGuarantee, K32EmptyWorkingSet, and GetNativeSystemInfo to .text Added idndl.dll, normaliz.dll, and the nls files normaliz.dll uses to the update package. v0.2.3: First version of KernelXE with new versioning system Full changelog inside update installer. v0.2.3.1: Added updated DirectSound library Added updated hotplug.dll and stobject.dll Added Windows Server 2003 msvcrt.dll Added BlackWingCat's Reiwa compatible locale.nls v0.2.4: Added PAE Added this HAL Timer fix Added Windows Vista msvcrt.dll Added KeAcquireInStackQueuedSpinLockRaiseToSynch and HalConvertIdtToIrql to all HALs Added KernelXE branded bootscreens Added some ntoskrnl functions (list in full changelog) v0.2.4-rv1: Added exFAT stuff (update.inf was weird) v0.2.4.1: Removed exFAT stuff Fixed and cleaned up update.inf Replaced Vista msvcrt with Server 2003 msvcrt (Vista msvcrt causes a BSOD related to winsrv) Added Kernel Mode Driver Framework Added WinUSB v0.2.4.2: Added some user32 stubs requested by piotrhn Added a missing piece of code in CreateActCtxB Updated msvcrt to 7.0.6002.22755 (Vista) Changed version block to check if the NT major version is 5 and removed NT minor version checking. Fixed loading bar not appearing in bootscreen Lots of new files Programs: Relocation Section Editor - Only one that handles huge relocation tables like the one in ntoskrnl. Executable | Source Code

  5. im using en-us it won't ever offer you those 2 updates because they are meant to be installed on windows server 2008 but luckily they work on vista too

  7. Tried the x64 JRE 16.0.1 version (on vista x64 ofc) and I get the same error as you do

  8. Well, I tried to run OpenJDK16U-jre_x86-32_windows_hotspot_16.0.1_9.msi on my Vista SP2 x86 laptop, this is what I was met with: Probably something that can be mitigated via Orca. but not gonna try it now... Also, https://adoptopenjdk.net/installation.html?variant=openjdk16&jvmVariant=hotspot#x86-32_win-jre suggests: i.e. the MSI installer will install the 32-bit variant of JRE 16 only on a Win7+ 64-bit host ; so, even when using Orca, I probably won't be able to install on my Vista x86 OS ... In any case, if @winvispixp is to try AdoptOpenJDK on his Vista SP2 64-bit machine, some tinkering of the installer might be needed...

  9. Thanks for that ; also nice to see that 32-bit support hasn't been abandoned by them ! However, https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html?variant=openjdk16&jvmVariant=hotspot suggests only Windows2012r2 or later is supported (?) ...

  10. I guess @winvispixp should try AdoptOpenJDK. It has a little better performance and still allows to install JRE separately.

  11. It is usually since first have 7 year old Windows install filled with bloatware, fragmented drive, lot startup services. Then they do upgrade which does fresh install of Windows (been since vista) and for some reason freshly installed new Windows with no programs, fragmentation etc runs faster. Freshly installed os is fast and snappy and will only over time get slower if user wont maintain it. Second change is user had 7 year old computer with 5400rpm hard drive, bare minium of ram, integrated gpu, cpu that was low end even for time. Then they buy brand new desktop with high end cpu, gpu, plenty of ram and SSD with latest Windows and then praises Windows to be faster ignoring fact they got brand new system to new Windows. For most pc means Windows and hardware wont matter. Good example was long ago when one Mac user called Windows trash since ran slowly compared his Macbook. His Windows laptop was lowest end 200-400€ laptop with 1gb ram, Celeron M, intel gma and Macbook was 2000€ and I think it had Core2duo, 8gb ram etc (wont remember specs properly anymore). Of course 2000€ laptop is faster than cheapest market laptop. He said Windows to be reason to slowness not laptop price different.Second example is one client who said she had upgraded to Windows 10 and had some issues. I asked if she had verified hw was good enough to run Windows 10 and told her to show laptop so I could check it. Laptop was brand new with preinstalled Windows 10. Tried explain client it was hardware she upgraded along with Windows and kept calling laptop Windows. That is most annyoing thing I keep hearing, refer Windows as hardware not as OS

  12. I don't know if the extended kernel has any impact on java jdk 16 but it installs and works! (i doubt that oracle still cares about vista but java 8 still receives updates that work on vanilla vista) I don't know if you can actually use it to develop things (jdk = java development kit) but minecraft 1.17 won't run without it (thank god that multimc exists because the native launcher won't load)

  14. We are reaching point where monopoly I have been warning long time starts happen. When Windows 98 came out ms paid vendors to make many usb devices only run on win98 offically since windows 98 had Internet exploiter forced in. I was able force many windows 98 exclusive usb devices run under Windows 95 with little or no tweaking and usb was not so big deal. Many pda devices (ibm workpads as good example) and phones (example nokia 9000 communicator) had serial port, so did cameras and printers until 2002 or so. Plus there NT4 as other option that still was very good to workstation use. Atleast gpu and mainboard supported Win95 until nivdia fx 5xxx. On that point there was luckily 98lite that allowed run win95 shell on windows 98 and remove ie plus there was Windows XP and Windows 2000 which even I hate IE intergration are pretty solid and mature operating systems and run xp as daily drive. There has always been two or three options to windows that been offically supported. Not talking about ability to buy it from ms since many retailers had unsold copies and internet had unused copies sold too to get it. When Windows 8 came out I knew things were going to be bad. It was impossible trying power use it on my works. Touchscreen UI got no place on desktop. Knew would be some point left with only Windows 8 as offically supported. Then Windows 10 came which was utter piece of junk and worse than Windows 98 FE with ie4. I only got Windows 10 at work laptop since all domain systems must run it and whatever ms software. On home windows 10 is banned permanently, I would rather go fully linux than win10. My issue is with win10 is constant updates, messy ui (two intergrated browsers, two control panels etc). Now Windows 11 is rolling out and seems we are slowly going Windows RT line of locked down computing devices in name of security. Actually peoples who know exploit can damage locked down system while user who is accepting fact it is locked down cannot stop it. There is no more good options on Windows. I warned long time what ms will eventually do but nobody listened since "microsoft is my friend and they care from me". We need hope community will stay strong. Do not give up using OS you like just because you are told to. Fighting back is worth it even if hard sometimes.

  15. The Extended Kernel project is still active, but the amount of time I have to work on it has dropped to new lows for various reasons. In fact, I was investigating the Firefox 89 font rendering breakage, and was planning on upgrading win32k to fix it (and upgrading win32k will help with gdi32 and DX components; plus, something in win32k bugchecks me when I close Waterfox G3 sometimes). But I am only near real Vista hardware for 2 out of every 14 days through late August. One side note: I have finally found something that surpasses Vista in performance on my HP Z600 workstation, while being from its lineage. 21996.1's averaged benchmarked results (in Cinebench R11.5) are slightly better than 2008 with 2019-04 updates and extended kernel, and perceived performance is identical or even better than Vista, which in turn is better than 7/1809. So some efforts may be redirected to that from Vista.

  16. You can try making MS bring back support for Windows 98 or XP with the same success rate. Google does what is good for them, not for us. Forcing you to use their browser (and upgrade the hardware if needed) is good for them. Same with any other major company.

  17. Some applications started demanding the SHA-2 rollup update KB4474419, which is obviously already installed, so that will become the minimum soon. Though there are currently two sets of ntoskrnl/winload; one works with April 2017 updates (soon to be discontinued), and the other only works with the (SHA-2) March 2019 update. They will not work with anything else.

  18. Even with all service worker options enabled and multithreading on Serpent, all I could get was an authentication loop. And the same thing happens with 360 11.0.2251.0!! So Teams is dead on NT 5.x. My last hope is to get Debian 10 x86 onto my laptop but M$ only made x64 Linux packages!! And Windows 7 is just massive compared to NT5.x.
