  1. - Windows NT 5.x family windowsupdate.com links for available languages, including all (any?) Custom Support Updates - The updates links are grouped for each build, slightly sorted, and ordered lexicographically per update number or file name as possible - Superseded (replaced) updates are not filtered or excluded - The dump is available as csv files containing updates name and url, or plain text files containing updates url - It's recommended to use CSVFileView to check the csv files https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/csv_file_view.html - You can filter or extract updates for certain language using findstr (Vista or 7) e.g. findstr /i \-enu NT_5.2.3790-x64-Custom.csv > NT_5.2.3790-x64-Custom-enu.csv however, few update have different language identifier or none, so it's best to review the whole file first - NT_5.1.2600-x86-SP2-Custom and NT_5.1.2600-x86-SP2-Custom-IE are ment for the EOS Windows XP SP2 x86 only - NT5-ia64 is for Itanium-based Server 2003 / Windows XP - .NET Framework packs and updates for NT 5.1/5.2 are in a separate list files, likewise Windows Media Player and some eXtra updates # P.S. Maybe it's best not to post the links explicitly in the forum replies or text sites (pastebin, txtuploader..), and share them in the txt/csv files # Download https://gitlab.com/stdout12/adns/uploads/9ca06a12dd08c06edd889e65afa637fa/NT5_WU_URLs_csv.7z https://gitlab.com/stdout12/adns/uploads/33fcfd0b0f6c1a0cb74472cb8407800d/NT5_WU_URLs_txt.7z

  2. mwahahaha ... Isn't he cute and cuddly? The Blobfish needs love too, ya know https://authorrisingtide.wordpress.com/2020/08/31/creation-in-and-of-itself-is-a-miracle-but-boy-it-can-sure-be-ugly/ I'll admit; sometimes when I log in its hard to keep breakfast down, so time for a change again. Sorry guys, back to regularly scheduled programing.

  3. @XPerceniol The Ghacks user.js v.52: https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/releases?after=55.0 would be more specific to the versions of browsers you mentioned. But not always. Because over time, that is from the year 2017 to now many settings have changed. For example the Insecure Chipher Suites adopted today compared to yesterday by Pale Moon. My advice is to evaluate case by case and not to use js v.52.

  4. It‘s very simple. I dont know if you use Vista as your main OS or as a VM but you need a machine running Vista SP2 (64 Bit). 1. Make sure you have all the updates installed till EOL (04/2017) - you cannot get them from Windows Update anymore, since WU was shut down on Vista back in August 2020. You need to run a Tool called WindowsPatchLoader 2.0, from where you can downlod all Updates for Vista till 2021/04. Please dont patch your system till that date, it will crash after installing Extended Kernel. Go as far as 04/2017! 2. After downloading all 2010-2017 Updates, download a programm called Dism++, which can apply all these updates to your system. Therefore, you need to go to the Update Management section and press Add, locate the folder where the downloaded updates are and select them all. It may take 20-70 minutes, depending on your PC specs 3. Now visit the Mega website, where the Extended Kernel was uploaded to and download the zip file. 4. Unpack the zip, and run the file vistaextendedkernel as an administrator. It will open a CMD popup, which you only have to press any key for to install. (takes 2 seconds..) 5. After the install finishes, reboot the PC/VM 6. Now you have the Extended Kernel!! Note: If you apply any further Security patch, the Kernel32.dll file will automatically be replaced again, with the original, unmodified Vista one * Exception: You can install Internet Explorer 9 patches, they wont affect the Kernel. You can Patch IE9 till 01/2020 without any trouble

  5. 7 of the 16 "pinned" threads in this forum are "ancient" and taking up space. Do we need to keep them "pinned"? Does not need to be too complex, three-and-only-three options. (Though I considered adding a fourth option, "Add more pins so that we always just skip to Page 2 for new and recent content".)

  6. Does the date April 11 ring any bells? Today is the Fourth Anniversary of Windows Vista’s EOL. (Of course the 11th fell on a Tuesday in 2017.) I had joined MSFN a few months earlier, figuring (quite correctly) that this would be the last place on the internet where Windows Vista diehards would congregate. Microsoft Security Essentials was nagging me about the approach of Doomsday. I was in a very fatalistic mood, and selected a screen name and avatar to match. Oddly enough, I now feel sentimental about those days. Getting back on topic, VistaLover pointed out in a March 31 post in the XP forum that McAfee antivirus products old enough to work on Vista or XP have reportedly been unable to receive definition updates since January 1, 2021.

  8. HI there. I've been an avid legacy O/S user since 2001. Joined because I'm doing lots of tuning/tweaking of Windows 95 OSR 2.5 and Windows 98 SE, with some Windows 2000 Pro SP4 thrown in for good measure periodically. Love tinkering, tuning, and hot-rodding vintage PCs.

Guys i got Chrome 89 working with extended kernel Google Meet works, streaming works and everything ms edge loads also but sadly i dont get any pages loading even tho i have internet but i might try porting Edge 89 cause i just found that ms edge 79 is the version and i had the same issues with chrome 79 so if anyone has a copy of 64 bit ms edge send a link and i might try see if it works.

  11. I suppose at least some of the pinned threads, especially the locked ones, could be put into a "reference topics" subfolder? That would always be at the top of the board with the other two subfolders. Would that make them too much less obvious to people looking for help though?

  12. It would be interesting to check whether the port blocking to prevent NAT Slipstreaming attacks is in progress in this browser as well. MSFN members can use the same test link, and modify it for the various ports, which I posted in the other thread. The mistake is: ERR_UNSAFE_PORT It is interesting to note that in Chrome-based browsers there is no possibility to block a port that is currently not blocked, such as 10080. But only the ability to enable doors to block with the flag below: --explicitly-allowed-ports=69,137 Good test to all MSFN members who have this curiosity.

  13. What's the matter with you people? Yet another attempt to delete history (or make it unnecessarily difficult to access it)? The very fact that a topic has been pinned sometimes in the past makes it worth it. As I said in another topic: if the issue is about "eyes been hurt by the amount of pinned topics" or "pinned topics take up too much space and I have to scroll down too much on the first page of a sub-forum"[1], topics can be unpinned, but only once a "master post" listing them is added. jaclaz [1] graphical representation, just in case : http://www.marriedtothesea.com/030306/gracious.jpg

  14. In my understanding all the pinned & locked posts here in this forum must be kept as they are, else they'll drop to the bottom forever, since nobody can reply to them and cause them to go up again. This, BTW, includes those 3 threads by cluberti, which do remain as relevant today as they were when originally posted. I've just reviewed the other pinned posts here and did unpin one which obviously has become utterly irrelevant, but I do favor keeping all the others in place. In what regards the Win 7 forum and the hardware forum & subforum, my opinion is the same. Elsewhere, I prefer not to weigh in, because I'm not a user of those systems, so those of the staff who actually do use them should be the ones to decide.

  15. The thought of “too many pinned threads” has crossed my mind before, and also affects the Vista forum. I just conducted a quick survey, and the Windows 8 and Windows 10 forums manage to get by with only 3 pinned threads each. Windows 7 is 12 years old now, but its forum has only five pinned threads - two of which are February 15, 2009 posts by cluberti that are also pinned in both the XP and Vista forums!? Your posts are not bad, but I wish I could soon forget your current avatar! I’m not sure if I should pity that hideous mutant or give it a shotgun blast? Edit: XPperceniol has mercifully changed avatars again, muchas gracias!

  18. Funny you should do this now, as I've been thinking about consulting my fellow moderators about this very issue for a while now! There do seem to be rather a lot of pinned threads on some of the forums here, and it does need to be discussed as to whether they all still need to be pinned. Do bear in mind that they were all pinned originally for a good reason, at least in the opinion of a moderator, so they shouldn't be unpinned unless they really are now considered to be obsolete.

  20. If that is on Serpent 52.9.0, on latest build at least, javascript.options.jit_trustedprincipals is not an included pref by default ; I found a mention about it here : but that Bugzilla bug refers to a relatively recent Firefox version; further searches landed me on: https://github.com/arkenfox/user.js/issues/928 which states: new in 75beta but commented out by default //user_pref("javascript.options.jit_trustedprincipals", true); // [FF75+] [HIDDEN PREF] so, in all probability, it is not applicable to St52... If you're just picking up user.js files from the web, please make sure first they are valid for the version of the browser used; and remember, St52 != Fx52 (and, certainly, not later Firefox versions... ) ... Best wishes

  21. Always thought this day was long from now. Sad to see functions now not existing in 7 Anyway, 8.1 is NT 6.3 so I wouldn't expect them to be that hard to backport, but could pose challenges with NT 6.2 not having it.

  23. I came of age in the late 90s! However, I remember virtually nothing of it, except at the very tail end (I do clearly remember when Windows 98 was the latest and greatest, though ). Unfortunately and somewhat tragically, most of my "recent" memories actually begin around the time of 9/11/01. With big crashes and bangs, no less (I will never forget that sad, sad day). @VistaEX You're lucky you missed out on that one! Anyway, as far as music goes, I was raised on oldies and 60s-style folk (that's what my mother played on the radio all the time back then), so I don't know much about anything past the early 80s. I sampled then-modern country and pop for awhile in 98-99, but decided I didn't like it and went back to oldies (yes, I know....). I have revisited pop every now and then since, and every time I listen, I can't switch it off soon enough because I'll find that it has gotten at least 1,000% worse since the last check in. Sometimes I feel like I belong in the past.... c

  25. Easy, Grasshopper! No malfeasance was intended so apologies if you felt that way. Simply offering an alternative solution. 360Chrome is my DEFAULT browser, I believe you once told us that it is NOT your default. BTW, caps are just a bad habit, maybe it's a generational thing, don't know. We could start a poll but my hunch is that those of us that watch this thread because 360Chrome is our DEFAULT (or at least a "majority-use"), that we are using the REPACK versus the "official". Again, no malfeasance intended.

  26. I very STRONGLY suggest using the REPACK version. The hurdles to jump through aren't nearly so GIGANTUOUS as far as telemetry-prevention with the REPACK version. I have personally only witnessed roughly 5% of Dixel's list so I would be curious to see screencaps of evidence that such a huge list is required even under the "official" (non-repack) version. My HOSTS file blocklist suggestions are much much smaller and I've not yet witnessed anything in Dixel's list outside of the below -- 0.0.0.0 browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 cloud.browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 dd.browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 qurl.f.360.cn 0.0.0.0 chrome.360.cn 0.0.0.0 ext.chrome.360.cn 0.0.0.0 u.qurl.f.360.cn 0.0.0.0 puv.tt.browser.360.cn 0.0.0.0 p.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p0.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p1.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p2.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p3.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p4.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p5.ssl.qhimg.com 0.0.0.0 p.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p0.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p1.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p2.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p3.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p4.ssl.qhmsg.com 0.0.0.0 p5.ssl.qhmsg.com I've personally not witnessed all of the .p0 through .p5 items, but I keep the full sequence blocked "just in case". I should point out that I delete errorpage.zip and newtab.zip and I've never used the "official" version, only the repack and only with a very large number of tweaks. Too many tweaks to list here, but one of them is to open chrome.dll in HxD Hex Editor and replace all 265 (build 2206) ocurrences of "360.cn" (without the quotes) with "killed" (without the quotes). Another tweak while in HxD Hex Editor is to zero-out the IP Address for "SystemHostResolverCall" (without the quotes).

  28. Hey there. I wanted to ask, if the windows update site is no longer ever able to provide updates from years back, how do we get them now ?? Is it even humanly possible anymore through some other program or site or anything ? "not" including the "update catalog" site that has everything manually you can search for. What i mean is for example i get a new PC or hard drive with XP, or something similiar. How will i be able to know what updates i might or might not be missing up to the final ones in April 2014 ?? I wouldnt have a clue what "kb numbers" i dont yet have up to 2014. So i wouldnt be able to just use the "catalogue" site if you know what i mean. Is there any way anymore, because of the regular Windows Update not being able to scan and whatnot you guys mentioned ?? I hope this makes sense. I tried my best to explain. I've only read a little about this "mini update tool" thing that apparently is the alternative, but i think you guys discussed earlier in this thread, or another one about that not working anymore either. So i dont know.

  30. I will use the operating system for as long as I have old computers compatible with it where XP is the best fit, and the increased resource consumption of anything newer would be felt. To throw out a working computer as out of date, or cripple it with bloat to make it so, is an unreasonable proposal. Old applications run on WinXP, and are also much faster. As long as I don't need to exchange bleeding edge file formats with other people, this software serves me better because, in addition to its speed and efficiency, I have also learnt to use it well. It does not require new redistributables or frameworks, or mandatory online components. If I have a goal of using a spreadsheet or encoding video, I default to the oldest tool that can accomplish that. The files produced will also be compatible with the most computer systems, either old or new.
    1 point
  31. I voted "yes". I will continue using XP, but as a VM on my Fedora 33 (Linux). The reason for this choice are several: lack of support of new hardware, programs dropping support for pretty much everything, C++ Redistributable no longer available, can't run Skype, can't run Teams, can't properly use Office 365 unless I use the browser, no AVID Media Composer, no Davinci Resolve, no x266 or H.266 VVC decoding nor encoding, no hardware acceleration for new-ish GPUs and no drivers whatsoever for new GPUs, no proper NVME support, no new version of Java and ultimately no UEFI support. I think that in the future, we're gonna see more and more users with a configuration like mine in which there's Linux installed as main OS, Windows 10 for work/productivity and lastly Windows XP/98/Android as VMs for anything else and nostalgia.
