  1. uhjuju! Thank you very much, it has worked! What would be of us without this magnificent forum! about:config media.gmp-manager.url https://aus5.mozilla.org/update/3/GMP/%VERSION%/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/%CHANNEL%/%OS_VERSION%/%DISTRIBUTION%/%DISTRIBUTION_VERSION%/update.xml Replace %VERSION% by 51.0 leaving it like this... https://aus5.mozilla.org/update/3/GMP/51.0/%BUILD_ID%/%BUILD_TARGET%/%LOCALE%/%CHANNEL%/%OS_VERSION%/%DISTRIBUTION%/%DISTRIBUTION_VERSION%/update.xml Go to Tools + Add-ons + Plugins In the Primetime Content Decryption Module provided by Adobe Systems, Incorporated go to options. On automatic updates mark no. Exit the plugin menu and re-enter. Now next to "no" appears "check for updates". Press and the problem is solved.

  2. To prevent user confusion, I strongly recommend disregarding the tutorials and contacting me directly instead about the extended kernel. The original post was removed as it was continuing to confuse users. There will be further discussion about the evolution of the extended kernel in the coming pages.

  3. Just to expound upon this for a moment, the above link refers to KB4519108 which is for DST changes in Windows for Norfolk Island and Fiji Island; however, after clicking on the above link I noticed something "new" that hadn't caught my eye before: When you expand the Applies to: section at the top of the page for KB4519108 by clicking on the More link, lo and behold, Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 appears at the end of the list. Scrolling further down the page to the How to get this update section and specifically under the Prerequisites section it says: There are no prerequisites to install this update on Windows 10, Windows Server 2016, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012 or Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. (emphasis mine) Of course, there are no working methods to obtain KB4519108 for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 as there are for all the other OS's listed, but I do nevertheless find the inclusion of it interesting. Yet another oversight on the part of MS, I guess. And last but not least, a big thanks to @win32 for your custom cumulative DST rollup update and always quick turnaround time.

  4. Yes, those discussions are mostly buried in the lengthy sticky thread about “last versions of software for [vanilla] Vista.” I don’t recall any issues being reported there either. Personally, I never used a version higher than 4.6.0 on Vista because I never especially wanted to run a program that required a higher .NET version. In fact I only have one program that needs 4.6, or else I might still use the 4.5.2 that Windows Update gave me before the apocalypse. But in these post-apocalyptic times, running software that officially requires Win7 is all the rage, and some such programs naturally need newer .NET versions. I wonder if the OP was trying to use a web installer, and wouldn’t be surprised if M$ has blocked those for Vista and XP by now. The OP started another thread on October 27, but hasn’t visited MSFN since then and may have given up on Vista.

  5. I should chime in on this, as I have some of my own issues with .NET. 4.6 seems fine to me; it is the minimum version required to launch the Visual Studio Community Edition installer. Haven't bothered with it enough to go past the "Windows 7 SP1 required" message, but if I have to I will. 4.7.x (a very recent finding of failure for me for this one) and 4.8 however, cause this and a few other newer .NET 4.x programs to crash. 3ds max 2021 is .NET 4.8-based and also crashes after launch. I'm trying to figure it out, but it is harder to deal with .NET than pure win32.

  6. When that dialog appears, dump files are erratically written. You can view them in Dr Watson (drwtsn32.exe). They can be helpful, but in this case they're just as useless as those. As we have no idea what is causing these issues based on dumps and dialogs, we can use local redirection to help us. Go to HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\KnownDLLs and delete most entries (except for the DllDirectory one or else you will get a BSOD on bootup), including the one for kernel32, reboot and then copy/paste the stable kernel32 to the CFF explorer folder, make a file named CFF Explorer.exe.local, so you will be able to use it. Then find a known broken program, copy the unstable kernel32 to its folder and do the .local thingy again. Comment out its calls in the same way using CFF or similar utility until you can get it to launch again. I've had this red herring crash problem before. Chromium 73+ was shown to have crashed on an import call to RtlOemUnicodeString or something like that on Vista originally, but it turned out to be a few incorrect call near ptrs (those can only be done if calling a routine within the same section, when they were indeed calling routines in other sections).

  7. I installed .net 4.6.1 on multiple machines without issues. 4.7.2 works also without any issues. Maybe this was isolated issue?

  8. @Cixert If you prefer to let delete cookies when the browser is closed, then you could consider to block the only cookies from google Always in options -> privacy -> exceptions This workaround remove the wild popup.

  9. The browser is the most important component of the security configuration. The first door to access to internet and therefore the first door for any malware. I am grateful for the work that Roytam1 does every week. Not only does using an updated browser allow you to enjoy the web in the best way, but the new added code, at least statistically, can prevent any OS compromises if we browse malformed web pages. Using an efficient adblocker allows you to browse faster. Even better with the use of eMatrix or Noscript but not with the default settings. It is useless to use browsers with the support terminated for years to navigate faster, then if the PC has other ballast such as the antivirus active in real time, etc. This is my thought. Others obviously do what they think is best for them.

  10. Despite the fact that it is deemed unnecessary in the main instructions, and that other members here report success without this step, I have always had to include it to get this working on systems that I have set up:
