  1. Something else: I wanted to thank you, Roytam, for making the New Moon browser available on Windows XP. It expands the lifespan of thousands of computers on this planet. This picture shows a 19 year old P3 with a weak 1 GHz processor running Windows XP, playing a Youtube video in 2020. Hopefully, people from countries with a less developed economy discover this, so they can use their XP machines much longer. Thanks to Roytam!

  2. Hello Windows XP gaming community. I have what i believe are good news for you, if you are into emulation. I'm a developer and i've recently modified the latest version of the popular PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator to make it run again under the Windows XP operating system, since they removed that compatibility by 2016. The development to my modified version of PCSX2 started in May 2020, just when the latest stable official release was made public (v1.6.0), confirming it wasn't indeed compatible with XP. I wanted to do something about it, so i started peeking the code and considering the options i had. Well, after months of testing and patience, i got the latest v1.6.0 stable release from May 2020 running perfectly fine under XP. This project is called "PCSX2 XP" and is been made available from my website: http://neonfloppy.sytes.net/projects/pcsx2-xp/ and there is also a github repository: https://github.com/blueclouds8666/pcsx2_XP You may also join to my discord server, where you can find about my other projects and chat with other xp fans: https://discord.gg/KXKXcs4 I will be answering any questions you have regarding my project down below. I hope you all find this useful. Thanks for your attention.

  3. Hmmm. And - with all due respect - who cares about what happened (or failed to happen) off site and that you vaguely report here? This is "Funny Farm", personally I am failing to find anything actually funny (or relevant) in your last two posts, we do have a section "Site & Forum Issues" https://msfn.org/board/forum/23-site-amp-forum-issues/ but none that I know for "Off Site Issues". As a side note, do review Rules: https://msfn.org/board/guidelines/ particularly #4.b jaclaz

  4. This topic was moved into funny farm and was originally about something else. I don't remember what it was about. But that is not important anymore. Now this thread is about:

  5. Ah, you're absolutely right it is 32Bit, disregard my post :D. Oh, so it is something to do with audio devices. Well web version doesn't work bad too. Hmm, I think I'll install 8.1 then, to get a bit newer experience.

  6. You have to enter the key at the login-portal of the Glass8 website, it will then give you a download-link to a license file. Place this license file in your Glass8 folder and reboot your PC.

  7. so i just wondering if it's possible to remove the "folders" section from "This PC" in the windows 10 file explorer, but still keep the individual folders so they can be accessed from the navigation pane to the left, which it looked like in windows 7.

  8. Yeah, it's kind of ironic. Like, supposedly the web has come so far, and you think back to the 90s when every website was unique and different, and the early 2000s, when a lot also look nice, and today they all look like crap, work like crap, load like crap, and all look the same. So much for progress... w2k.phreaknet.org is brought to you by all-American sweat and ingenuity!

  9. Netbook is Acer Aspire One ZG5, beefed up with 1.5Gb RAM, ZTC Cyclone 64Gb SSD (ZIF PATA), Ralink 802.11n Wifi card, 256Gb SD card for added storage, 128Gb micro SD card for swap/downloads/browser cache, 9 cells battery (up to 10h autonomy wifi turned off). I've applied new thermal paste, canibalized speakers from a bigger laptop so now the netbook has good sound. It's really fast running XP, the thermal paste and SSD made a big performance improvement. Integrated graphics is Intel GMA 945 but i've installed "Trixarian Chell 1.7b" moded drivers for a welcome performance boost. Lots of games runs just fine : Wizardry 8, Freelancer, Sim City 3000, Homeworld, Dungeon Siege, etc... SNES, PC Engine and Genesis emulation too... I've yet to try PS1.

  11. Nah, WindowBlinds is just too buggy to my taste. You can tell that WB is just a software running on top of your Windows 10. Unlike Glass8 which feels native part of the O.S.

  12. Maybe an Invidious server is an option, if Youtube doesn't play well? You can watch the videos from Youtube there, too. Yewtu.be is working well at the moment.

  13. I agree, nobody knows how to make a website anymore. Everybody uses a template and the end product looks awful. I use mainly HTML + CSS3 and my policy is no JS unless absolutely necessary. Mainly advanced dropdowns and necessary logic. Most of my pages don't have any site JS. Thus, my website loads quickly and is accessible. Also, I code every line myself. All the PHP, all the CSS, and most of the JS... (sometimes, I do use a small library for a specific task, b/c I hate JS).

  14. Cool weather forecast desktop program + screen saver that uses Flash - YoWindow (limited giveaway) [edit] the giveaway seems to be over, free version is still good though. It's a quick way to check if your Flash player ActiveX still works in 2021

  16. The 970m Pro3 system looks like it'd be the best choice, with the Optiplex 790 as a alternative. I'm more interested in the 970m Pro3 system, as it would let you work with @win32 by being another tester for better GTX 1000 series drivers on Vista

  18. OK, @Dave-H and @crashnburn4u I figured out part of what's going on, in the process of tracing my mysterious CABs Now that I have the Excel sheet, it's fairly easy. Properties displays the version number of every MSU in the files extracted in the CAB, so I just go in each folder. What I'm finding is that what happened is that catalog.update.microsoft.com offers update in CAB format. However, the newer KBs, from at least the past few years, link to EXEs on download.microsoft.com. I think what happened is up through February, I was copying KB #s into the Catalog portal, and downloading CAB files, but after that, I just clicked the links in the KB articles and downloaded the EXEs, and never looked back. Interesting! Personally, I prefer the EXEs, because they contain the KB number in them which makes referencing really easy. The CAB file names are only listed in update.catalog - I would need to make some kind of script to trawl through the site and iterate over all KB numbers and make a list of which CAB file names go with which KBs - and not sure how to approach to be honest... esp. since some KBs have multiple files for download. Also explains why I only downloaded the en-us CAB for some of those updates, whereas the EXEs have all the languages. Didn't want to manually download every language update! Many older KBs do not have EXE updates, though, so I have to keep the CABs around in the event they are necessary. Once I know exactly what CABs are which KBs, and I know if they were definitely superseded or not, I can then manually try installing them on my patched Vista testbench and see what happens. Then, we'll know a little bit more, and maybe some of those CABs really are redundant. At that point, I'll be feeling much more confident about all this!

  19. OK @Dave-H The Excel file is complete. Downloadable from w2k.phreaknet.org - it's right at the top It contains *EVERY* single Office 2010 update ever released, to my knowledge. I scoured all the Microsoft KB articles. Probably took around ~5 hours total. Supersedence for every update is also listed where provided, and formulas and colors keep track of which updates have been made unnecessary by future updates. There's still some questions I have, but this helps, so it's a start. Anyways, could be a great asset in crosschecking updates now. I'd be interested to see what updates you're offered and how they line up on this sheet. Maybe you can note the KBs but not install?

  20. OK, here's what I've got so far: You can download it in Excel format from here: https://w2k.phreaknet.org/ All the updates going back through beginning of 2018 now. I can do more if needed, but this seems like it should cover most of them.

  21. @win32 @Dave-H @crashnburn4u OK, I gave in... I can't figure out exactly how much of my February folder is redundant and it some updates failed in XP, so *maybe* I need a clean start. Should have done this from the beginning, but since MSFT isn't providing one, I guess I'll make one would a supersedence chart with full details be useful to anyone? started making it:

  22. The fact that Chrome 50 will run on Vista has been known for years, as posted in Last versions of software for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 under Web Browsers , which even has links to FilePuma. I don’t think it will run on XP though.

  23. I'm lurking 'cause I use PotPlayer on a daily basis; as a matter of fact, I'm using it in this very moment as well 'cause my stereo only gets FM and not DAB so I listen to radio using my computer. (FYI DAB in UK airs at ridiculous bitrates, so do online radio, but we don't have any alternatives and they sound better than FM despite the very low bitrate, so...) Anyway, I'm concerned about another program as well: Telegram. I stopped receiving updates with my version (1.2.6) and if I click "search updates" it doesn't show any updates, however if I go to the website I can see that newer version have been released (without my knowledge). When I tried to install the very latest version (1.8.7 beta), it let me install it and it works, however it shows a big fat red bar at the very top saying that I should update my OS, so I think that telegram may stop working "soon".
