  1. A more general way would be something like (one liner on command line): FOR /F %i in ('DIR /B *.msu') do (@call set name=%~ni&&@ECHO "%i" "%name:~0,-41%%~xi") and FOR /F %i in ('DIR /B *.cab') do (@call set name=%~ni&&@ECHO "%i" "%name:~0,-41%%~xi") Or in batch: @ECHO OFF SETLOCAL ENABLEDELAYEDEXPANSION FOR /F %%i in ('DIR /B') do ( SET name=%%~ni IF "%%~xi"==".msu" ECHO "%%i" "!name:~0,-41!%%~xi" IF "%%~xi"==".cab" ECHO "%%i" "!name:~0,-41!%%~xi" ) jacla

  2. To prevent user confusion, I strongly recommend disregarding the tutorials and contacting me directly instead about the extended kernel. The original post was removed as it was continuing to confuse users. There will be further discussion about the evolution of the extended kernel in the coming pages.

  3. I've attached RAR5 compressed files with lists of download links for all official updates for Vista 32-bit and 64-bit Post SP2 up to April 2017. Includes all language packs for Vista, IE9 and local Help update. Also included are Ultimate Extras, Optionals and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 / 4.52 with updates. Superseded updates are not included except for a few ones just to satisfy Windows Update. Hotfixes are not included, unless available through Windows Update. Someone please mirror them on Web Archive. ASAP. EDIT: Updated files with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Language Packs. Installing System Updates: If you want to install a language pack, you must do it first, by downloading and running the language pack executable. 1) Download all files from Main_URLs.txt to the same folder. 2) Using WinRAR, sort files by type and unpack all .MSU files to the same folder, overwriting existing files. Then you may delete the .MSU files to save space. 3) Unpack the WindowsVistaSP2_x86_Installer.rar or WindowsVistaSP2_x64_Installer.rar (just batch files) to the same folder where you extracted the files. 4) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and switch to the folder where the update files are. 5) Run Main_Part1.bat, Main_Part2.bat and Main_Part3.bat. At the end of execution of every batch file, Windows will restart automatically. 6) Optionally you may install local copy of Help update (LangPacks_Help_URLs.txt) and the IE9 language pack (LangPacks_IE9_URLs.txt). PS: It'll take a while to install all 210+ updates. Installing .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 / 4.52 with updates: 1) Download all files from NDP35_45_URLs.txt to the same folder. 2) Unpack the WindowsVistaSP2_x86_Installer.rar or WindowsVistaSP2_x64_Installer.rar (just batch files) to the same folder where you extracted the files. 3) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and switch to the folder where the update files are. 4) Run NDP35_45_Install.bat, if needed Windows will restart automatically. 5) Optionally you may install a language pack (LangPacks_NDP35SP1_URLs.txt and LangPacks_NDP452_URLs.txt). Installing updates for optional features (only if you have installed IIS, IIS ASP, IIS FTP or Telnet from Program and Features Control Panel extension) Download all files from Features_URLs.txt and run the following .MSU packages if you have installed: IIS: KB4012373 IIS ASP: KB2124261 IIS FTP: KB975254 Telnet: KB960859 and KB3020393

  4. There are some functions that are present in WildBill's ntdll but not BWC's ntdll. I have been working on adding all of BWC's functions to WildBill's kernel32. It should be ready for release in the next few days, and there will also be a few new functions that don't exist in either WildBill or BWC's extended kernels.

  5. It can be installed on the 370 chipset, but a BIOS mod may be required, and the system installation disk needs to be modified. There are no drivers for the RX5700.

  6. Someone has made an update rollup pack for vista? I don't suppose you would care to let us know what and where that might be?

  7. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I don't trust these 3rd party software vendors anymore than I trust Microsoft now. Pale Moon, maybe, but the official InterLink doesn't support Windows XP. So a lot of what Roytam1 forks *is* pretentious software. Yeah, I've noticed that! I've put a ZIP download up here: https://w2k.phreaknet.org/ - download link is right at the top I don't take most of the credit since I just forked it, but I fixed all the issues I observed with it so it should be tenable in a "real" deployment. Must be run as admin, but programs will work for all users afterwords. No guarantees but it's worked well for me so please let me know if there are issues!

  8. Yeah the update servers have been back again, but who knows for how long.

  9. I second this. Just grab the community Winapp2.ini for ccleaner/bleachbit, and that will greatly increase the application detection in older clients. Modern CCleaner is quite literally spyware.

  10. So SIW2, you will only help new member TheRobster5555 if he creates an account at Blithering Blogspot where you are considered a guru? The world no longer needs multiple Windows Vista forums, and most of the advanced users are here at MSFN, so please decide where your loyalties lie. Meanwhile, there was an interesting post at MSFN last night: https://msfn.org/board/topic/178377-on-decommissioning-of-update-servers-for-2000-xp-and-vista-as-of-july-2019/?do=findComment&comment=1185365

  11. AMD 785g, Onboard LAN working, in windows ME. USB2.0 ports, PS/2 ports, pci and pcie slots. onboard SATA kinda works (in IDE mode it runs in msdos compatibility mode as a generic storage controller) fix with promise ATA133 pci card and PATA IDE ATA133 SSD. onboard video is sufficient for setup (16 color 640x480) (Fix with X300 series pcie or PCi 7000) onboard audio is hdac97, so fix with soundblaster pci. (DO NOT connect cdrom to the ATA133 PCI card, except during initial install. it slows the card terribly and will horribly bottleneck the SSD.) Complete the install then disconnect cdrom, connect a wireless AC to gigabit ethernet bridge to the LAN port with a length of cat6, and install all updates and hotfixes, then install a usb DVD drive to have a working optical drive. Disable onboard gpu and AC97 hdaudio in bios to free up IRQ's, make sure boot mode is set to legacy BIOS only, and install only a single 1gb stick (or 512m if anyone makes one) of ddr3. use an OPTERON CPU. A FX series chip might work but have not tested that. I only tested this with an Opteron 3380 as I have water cooling and it is a real pain to take it all off and unmount the mb just to swap cpu's. Limit memory with setup switches as usual, then edit system INI appropriately once install is complete. make sure all usb controllers are set to legacy usb support, and 2,0 mode with 1.1 compatibility fallback enabled. use a DVI converter to get HDMI out from the card's DVI port. (video only no audio) and connect external speakers to the soundblaster PCI card. what doesnt work: USB3.0, HDac97 audio, onboard Radeon HD8xxx graphics (except basic 16 color mode) R9 390x (replaced it with PCIe x300 series) SATAIII (set to IDE mode it sort of works, generic IDE controller in msdos compatibility mode). Cool and Quiet. (Use K8 powernow driver to get it working). and of course, only one core is used.
