  1. Since someone mentioned Google Earth in the Extended Kernel thread, I decided to dig into it again and see if the latest version still works in Vista. Unfortunately, versions starting with 7.3.3 do not work in vanilla Windows Vista, requiring Windows 7+ functions (K32EnumProcessModules being the one I received an error about). And so, Google Earth 7.3.2 is listed as the last version (thankfully Google still has a download available.. I downloaded both the 32 and 64 bit installers to have on hand for when they will inevitably take them down): I also removed Rocket League from the "Games" section since someone mentioned in the other thread that it hadn't been working on Vista for months now, but fortunately it works with Extended Kernel. I added Goosebumps Dead of Night 2020 as @burd suggested

  2. Great video @WinClient5270 you claimed FF 78 doesnt work in a comment thats because you need to open up firefox.exe in CFF Explorer, go into the import table, select ntdll.dll and change the entry RtlQueryPerformanceCounter to NtQueryInformationProcess , maybe you can add that in your description , credits go to @win32 ofcourse , once again.

  3. A new bugfix for shell32.dll is to be released, where Shell_NotifyIconGetRect will now redirect to Shell_NotifyIconW due to some bugs with my implementation of the former which are fixed when calling the latter. SHAssocEnumHandlerForProtocolByApplication is also in the pipeline; however, the Opera components I looked at were all 32bit so that again will take awhile for those interested. As for the Windows codecs, it appears that these functions will needed to be added to the following files. Then we should be able to use the AAC/MPEG-4 decoders from Windows 7 (msmpeg2adec.dll and msmpeg2vdec.dll): kernel32 SetThreadIdealProcessorEx GetThreadGroupAffinity mfplat MFCopyImage MFCreateVideoMediaType MFGetStrideForBitmapInfoHeader Of course, some parts of those mfplat functions are hideously complex though. But I don't they'll beat my XP x64-based LoadLibraryExW rewrite (mostly done, but some subroutines need to be fixed up). On another note, by nop-ing the first few instructions of VerifyVersionInfoW in kernel32, you can effectively disable all version checks, with negative side effects like browsers thinking they're running on Windows 10 (so Serpent has the W10 appearance complete with oversized window controls on top of the native ones and newer Firefoxes expecting Windows 10 crash). I am considering offering a version of kernel32 with the gimped VerifyVersionInfoW to be used in cases where version checks are otherwise impossible to avoid.

  5. Hardly surprising given Roytam1's unbranded XP port, but Interlink mail client is also fully functional with the kernel. Nice client, I'll add. I extracted the core folder from the installer and just ran the executable from a local directory. Lightning works with bidirectional Google Calendar support too, but you'll need to enable the Firefox user agent in the configurations editor for that to function properly.

  7. Oops! Sorry for the mistake. I'm only human I will fix the original post so that others that run across it aren't thrown off by the typo.

  8. Get the LAV filter DLLs from the second post, extract in the browser folder. P.S. I only noticed this bug because i had the SSE2 files by mistake, so when the newest build tried to use those i got an "invalid opcode" crash in avcodec-lav-57.dll (meaning they were never used before, huh?!). Before extracting the correct files, i tested the browser by itself - that's how i discovered this...

  9. Thank you so much VistaLover because your analysis stimulated my (old ) brain cells. I don't use the MPVN HOSTS list because the update rate is too slow for me. The list almost certainly also uses Insecure Cipher Suites that I blocked in my New Moon 28. As you can see I have left only 2 active: And in fact there is the failure to load the list page: Okay so, I wouldn't use that list anyway, thank you very much.

  10. True - but if a program needs Vista’s help to connect, I believe Vista is going to use Internet Explorer’s engine regardless of the user’s browser preferences. If I am mistaken, then this thread has no real reason to exist.

  11. Yup , its enabled for me , but the options to toggle them only appear in the 64bit IE9 for me , but im sure the setting still applies to the 32bit IE9(though i havent been bothered enough to test).

  12. Hi jaclaz: Your assumptions about TLS 1.2 and Firefox ESR v52.9.0 (rel. 26-Jun-2018) are not what I observe on my own Vista SP2 machine. My Vista SP2 is patched to end of extended support on 11-Apr-2017 [i.e., I have not installed any Windows Server 2008 updates released after April 2017 like the KB4054565 (CredSSP remote code execution vulnerability in Windows Server 2008, Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, and Windows Embedded Standard 2009: March 13, 2018) recommended in John Haller's instructions <here>] and the image I posted <above> on 23-Jul-2020 shows my Firefox ESR browser supports TLS 1.2. As noted in that post, TLS 1.2 support has been enabled in Firefox since FF 27 was released in 2014 (i.e, security.tls.version.max was automatically set to a value of 3) as stated in the FF 27 release notes <here> and and far as I know, Vista SP2 users who use Firefox ESR v52.9.0 as their default browser should not have to make any changes in their advanced browser settings at about:config or install any OS patches released after end of support on 11-Apr-2017 to connect to secure https web sites that require the TLS 1.2 protocol. I believe John Haller's instructions allow Vista SP2 users to enable TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 support in their Internet Explorer 9. ---------- 32-bit Vista Home Premium SP2 * Firefox ESR v52.9.0 * Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1-1.0.365 HP Pavilion dv6835ca, Intel Core2Duo T5550 @ 1.83 GHz, 3 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

  13. You are welcome, BUT: come on, take it easy man , Vistapocalypse is only trying to help you, since the matter is far from being simple/linear it is perfectly normal that willing helping members post doubts, request for confirmations, theories, ideas (crazy or not so crazy), it is the normal process of brainstorming to solve a problem, particularly when the problem is "officially" not resolvable (by MS or by the guys that provide the IS3 of by your local computer support people). jaclaz P.S.: It is rarely the case (but you never know) check that you are using the "right" version of Regedit (i.e. if you are using one, try the other one), among the most confusing explanations on earth (brought to you by the good guys that put in WOW64 32 bit programs and that call "system" the volume that boots and "boot" the volume that contains the operating system): https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/305097/how-to-view-the-system-registry-by-using-64-bit-versions-of-windows

  16. Some converters are; WinX Video Converter 4.1.1; Oxelon Media Converter + plugins ; & the latest Miro video Converter vs 3.1 will work & is the better one using 5 reference frames but no x265. The python27.dll is replaced with one from the Python web site and msvcr80 vs 8.0.31113.25 is used as msvcrt. These converters are free. WinX and Oxelon need no KernelEx but Miro needs 2K mode. They will work just as good with 98 as with a latter system on similar hardware. Some others are worth mentioning; WinAVI 2007 does not need kernelEx but a race to unload major.dll occurs when exiting. It has a good RMVB converter. If on closing, opening with a debugger will then close the program and no program is running in the debugger. This idea can work with other programs that are latched up in memory that are impossible to terminate with ctrl + alt + del. "Super" back in the day was quite good. WinFF vs 1.4.2 works; EncodeHD 1.2 and A's Video Converter 6.0.6 need Dot Net framework, my dot net vs 2 stopped working but an ini file pointing to framework 1.1 might work for me but not tried yet. Vid to Vid should work but doesn't for some reason. I have WonderFox HD Video Converter working but I still have not emailed the distributor about registering. It converts WTV with early versions to x265 and other formats. but only converts a file that is a fraction of a second long in time line with WinME. See KernelEx core update topic.

  20. Rocket League is working with the extended kernel. I can't believe that. The game itself asks for XAPOFX1_5.dll you can source it on the internet and after you put it in system32 folder the game launches normally. Edit: Cinebench R20 is working too so you can add that one.
