  1. An update about the Wayback Machine saving process. I finally got some courage and, after thinking, searching, reading and even asking for help (a big thank you to them! ), wrote a Python script that automates that said saving process. It's sloooooow but restartable (i.e. will continue with the first link left unprocessed), so it will take a while to go through the links @ED_Sln posted before. But rest assured that, eventually, all those links will appear on the Wayback Machine! Right now (at the time of writing), 284 links had been processed

  2. Or the update was posted by mistake. If this is so, then it means that updates for XP are released, but they are simply not published anywhere.

  4. Regarding addon archives, aside from CAA and legacycollector, this one is still important too: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/ A clone of old AMO, but only thunderbird and seamonkey addons. At least those Firefox addons which were compatible with Seamonkey too are still preserved there. Sadly that was only a small minority, but still useful. When doing a search for "Firefox" over 1200 addons show up: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/search/?q=firefox Have some doubts about the usability of that search function, so the art will be to FIND something, but anyway. The addons are still complete with screenshots, reviews, and it tells which old addon version works in which browser version. Just example: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/addon/httpfox/

  5. Got two test PCs for released Windows 10 Pro. A MacBook using BootCamp runs 32 bit Version 1809 with the latest CU to Build 17763.557. That updated OK with no problems. However, the Feature Update to 1903 installed but took out the Apple Host software. When the Host software was reinstalled, Windows went into a "Dump-Restart" loop. The good news is that the recovery software was able to uninstall the Feature Update and return to 1809. Waiting for 1909 to try the Feature update again. The Dell laptop runs 64 bit Version 1903 with the latest CU to Build 18362.175. That updated OK with no problems. These PCs are used as my "Slow" Outsider testing. At least I can see what end users have to deal with. Depending on individual PCs, some updates work and some don't. And sometimes 64 bit PCs work and 32 bit PCs don't, or vice-versa. What was the name of this thread again? Oh yeah, I remember.

  6. I can control myself, therefore no public download links! Honestly, MS can integrate even more censorship modules and other nonsense in their current "permanent construction site", which goes past me. I continue to use Windows XP!

  10. This is not true: if by "official" site you mean https://noscript.net/ then change to the "get it!' tab and scroll down a bit:

  12. The author recommends NoScript 2.6.9.32. Indeed, it's faster on the old machines. Concerning the security of old, unsupported software, all I can say from my experience is, that I have never ever got virus troubles with Windows 98 on the internet (an unsupported system since 2006) at daily use with old browsers like Netscape (2008) or K-Meleon (2010). Just don't click on stupid things and deactivate JavaScript. Even on scammy websites, nothing really happens then.

  14. The release of KB4501226 for XP was probably a mistake. I recall that a couple of updates for W2K found their way onto the downloadable update DVD a year or two after W2K went EOS in 2010. From memory the updates were for IE6SP1 and IE5.0SP4. As it was I used W2K until mid 2013 without any updates or problems and only stopped using W2K online when the antivirus I was using went EOL. The computer was fine with W2K but under powered for comfortable usage with XP with it's 1000MHz Pentium III and maximum of 512MB of RAM. What to do? What to Do??? As luck would have it my next door neighbor put her Dell Dimension 3000 out on the curb that same week. It turned out there was nothing wrong with the hardware but it suffered from a serious malware infection. Office 2003 would crash and was unusable. A clean install was called for especially since XP was in Korean. In fairness I offered the computer back to my neighbor after ridding the system of malware but she indicated she bought a laptop and no longer needed the Dell. Who knew in 2013 that the POSReady 2009 updates would keep this XP installation going until 2019. I think there may be a few more years left in it.
