  1. Hi Guys! When I mean official I mean I am making it official that I think it is the worst ever... While I can understand that Microsoft want a OS that works on all platforms - they fail to recognise the genuine complaints of long term users! Computers are getting more powerful every day, screens are getting larger and more advanced. and yet we are given a OS that is basically designed for a telephone screen. What happened to nice gradient colours etc? It is so **** boring? Your general users do not care what improvements are made to the engine...they want it to look and feel good as well! A telephone is a telephone in my opinion and I want an OS that looks good on the ever increasing sizes of desktop screens! The start menu is a mess! Once again nothing is logical about the setup of things.... If this is the best they can come up with I will keep one computer as Windows for my customers and then the others as Linux.

  2. We have a similar thread called XP spotter, where members can post pics of XP running in the wild. But.. I thought it would be fun to make a new thread where people can show off their own NT 5.1 and 5.2 systems running in the wild Purpose of this thread is just to create some more community involvement. XP running in VMware unity Mode on 2003 X64 Bit.

  3. I recently came into possession of a Dell Inspiron 1420 in excellent condition. I restored Windows Vista to factory settings and installed SP2 and Internet Explorer 9. Are you aware Internet Explorer cumulative updates for Server 2008 can still be installed on Vista? It doesn't require any hacks either. I installed KB4480965 for January 2019 (9.0.125) and it didn't complain. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4480965/cumulative-security-update-for-internet-explorer ( I downloaded from Microsoft Update Catalog here)

  5. Just a side note, in my old browser and on OSM that happens when the scripts switch to a higher encryption, which it can't support yet. First looks fine, then BANG - server kills the tiles. Maybe check current TLS1.2 settings? "security" prefs in aboutconfig. Hm, and remember some pref about security hardening... Another thought: Fake the useragent. Some major sites today just kick out XP-users (if UA contains "Windows NT5.x") Or perhaps the browser already has a hardcoded fake UA for the tile server...

  6. So....please tell us why you are wasting time even trying...?! If you are going to continue to post about problems the first thing is...do yourself a favour....you have been used to XP Pro...so install this program "Classic Shell"...no longer being developed but works a treat...you will have a menu like WindowsXP and then you will probably find things.... I want to add here that I am not a diplomat and can be a bit harsh at times.... And I apologise if I have offended anyone...not my intention! I really hope Roffen understands....we are just trying to help.... The more information we have the better.... bookie32

  7. can also confirm that google maps works fine for me on all 3 browsers. maybe try make sure hardware acceleration is enable. And update your gfx card drivers if that doesn't work. Check this page idk if it is relevant or not. https://www.sitepoint.com/firefox-enable-webgl-blacklisted-graphics-card/ Try updating your video drivers 1st. if that doesn't work check try these. To enable WebGL, set webgl.force-enabled to true. To enable Layers Acceleration, set layers.acceleration.force-enabled to true To enable Direct2D in Windows Vista/7, set gfx.direct2d.force-enabled to true

  10. Please try Folder Options X : http://free-sk.t-com.hr/T800soft/software/FolderOptionsX.html https://github.com/T800G/FolderOptionsX It was suggested to me by a fellow MSFN member here but, sadly, I can't recollect his username, nor is it possible to retrieve his post: it was lost due to the forum's database corruption in early June of this year... Like WinXP, Windows Vista retains free sorting of folders+files, a feature that was removed by M$ in Win7+'s Explorer ; my preferred folder view in Explorer is Tiles, and the inability to freely re-arrange files/folders inside a directory drived me crazy on my sister's Win7 64bit laptop; but, thankfully, Folder Options X came to the rescue !!! Unzip and run the installer (if you want to be extra cautious, you can create a system restore point prior to the installation, I did not have to, everything went along fine...); be sure to check "Enable icon reordering" in the app's settings: what is unfortunate is that the app was released 4 Feb 2017, too long after Win7's own release... Very late reply, but wanted to say many thanks for recommending FolderOptionsX. Installed it an it works a treat. I had tried the 'Disable Auto Arrange' patch (.bat file) available from another forum but that one doesn't have as many options available and was a bugger to remove (had to reimage the drive), whereas FolderOptionsX can be easily disabled from the GUI with no issues. The only drawback (which also exits on the .bat patch) is that the folders, etc blow up when they are dragged. Cheers
