  2. The AMD Ryzen CPUs have a VME bug, which was mostly fixed in the latest revisions and BIOS updates, but hasn't been entirely fixed for hybrid 16/32 bit OSes (such as Windows 9x). A solution to this is to disable the 32 bit protected disk drivers (go into Safe Mode, then System Properties > Performance > File System > Troubleshooting > Disable all 32-bit protected mode disk drivers), and then install the 48-bit LBA fix, as well as all of the previously released Windows 98 updates. Then, you should be able to re-enable the 32 bit drivers. This may not guarantee 100% stability, but it seems to work fine for me.

  3. And that's why I chose to make the leap to Basilisk, even on Win 7. Much smoother/simpler upgrade path.

  5. Exactly the kind of thing that worries me. That's why I prefer more conservative approach to updating. If you don't run into serious issues, it works just fine.

  6. Actually not by the company that sells 'Security', as the paper itself looks professional, but by the clickbait-driven Mass Media that refer to it, all of them linked the first post.

  7. Good news for users using Avast or AVG antivirus protection, the file "rpcss.dll" of KB4466388 and KB4467689 in English (ENU) is no longer incorrectly detected as malware. @someguy25 @Bersaglio If interested, created a batch where this problem will be corrected when MUI packages are used. Any appropriate language code in the batch needs to be customized (SET "LangCode=XXXX").

  8. Yes, we do pride ourselves in at least trying to figure out actual solutions, rather than the typical "just reinstall Windows" or "update your antivirus" type posts you see a lot of other places.
