  3. I shouldn't trust Brave these days. I discovered it requests "GetFirmwareType", GetFirmwareType - "Retrieves the firmware type of the local computer". https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winbase/nf-winbase-getfirmwaretype Why would a browser that declares itself "privacy oriented" want to know your exact firmware? Yes, it's for only one purpose, to bind your account to the PC you're on. More and more sophisticated tracking.

  7. I saw the new Dune: Part Two at the cinema last weekend. (For those who missed Part One in 2021, a Blu-ray/DVD is available at Walmart for about the price of a movie ticket.) The two films by Canadian filmmaker Denis Villeneuve comprise the best screen adaptation there is of Frank Herbert’s bestselling 1965 novel. (I’m a fan of David Lynch, but his 1984 film Dune was simply too short to do justice to the book.) Villeneuve has become a leading director of science fiction films in recent years, having made Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 before embarking on his two-part Dune project. He reportedly has plans for a third film based on Frank Herbert’s sequel Dune Messiah. My old favorite filmmaker James Cameron needs to work harder if he wants to stay on top in science fiction films! Here’s a trailer for Dune: Part Two: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2Qp5pL3ovA

  10. I don't really have to use it either, must have been curious, so I put it on the smaller partition I have for testing Windows versions I don't daily-drive. Been' using it for a while, with the usual tweaks, switching back seemed to be too much bother. I hide Windows versions from each other, just in case, the Flintstones way, manually changing partition type with Linux's fdisk. The few programs I use work as usual. Not being able to drop files on taskbar programs' buttons is annoying though.

  11. I’m familiar with your opinion that cinema died around the turn of the century. Christopher Walken was certainly a great actor of the 20th century, but now his sunken eyes are a sad sight. The future of cinema (and everything else) belongs to the young, and the young are making Dune: Part Two a success: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/box-office-dune-part-two-younger-adults-audience-1235842993/ I want to put in a good word for actress Rebecca Ferguson, who I had never noticed before Part One. She plays Lady Jessica, the mother of the hero (or antihero) Paul Atreides, and she is very beautiful. In Part Two she looked absolutely stunning even with strange graffiti all over her face. I’m still scratching my head about that because I never cared for tattoos!? Jessica was not a character in Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, so it seems unlikely that Ferguson will be back for Part Three.

Therefore, I've updated my new article. and my list. So, my statement that this programme is updated on a regular base seems to be correct. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  21. I completely agree. Image how difficult will be for somebody, who has never used Pentium I with Windows 98, to understand how fast Windows was back in the day in a hardware that was 100 times slower than the one we have nowadays. Now... ¿how is this possible? or ¿what is happening? Possible solution: ¿Time to get back to SERVICE PACKS? It feels like a BETA OS Since Windows 10 1607. Windows as a Service isn't the path to follow, MS. This is completely no sense: https://winclassic.net/thread/1652/list-metro-ified-components-windows Current Windows status can be only understood in one way: nowadays hardware, even the cheapest laptop, comes with tons of RAM and disk space to waste... It's a bit sad how all has changed after w8.1.... we are in the last days of computers. Sometimes I think if MS is only testing Windows on a highend PC, even if this is true, the OS feels like a beta; slow gui, lag... tons of background processes... It was one day an (almost) perfect Operating System and not this kind of beta "Service"

  28. Where did you get this information? It usually comes in two versions, the free version Malware Hunter and the commercial version Malware Hunter Pro. As already described in my article, the features real-time protection and automatic updates are only available in Malware Hunter Pro. Actually, Glarysoft Malware Hunter Pro has a 30-day free trial period. After that, you must purchase a license for the software to use all its professional features. That means you can use it as an on demand scanner when the trial period has expired.

  31. Yep! However, I deactivated the file PromoUtil.exe in my installation when I used this security programme. Less pop-ups and less RAM consumption. The problem with all recent 360 Total Security versions is the quality of their scanners since they don't use Avira and Bitdefender scan engines any longer but unfortunately their own ones, 360 Cloud Scan Engine, 360 QVMII AI Engine, QEX and KunPeng. Read this review here: https://www.safetydetectives.com/best-antivirus/360-total-security/ And once again, please provide more information when you do a request! One image and a few words are simply too few.

  32. In details, why my Vista Nvidia drivers porting is a success? Because they had to let the old code from Windows 7 still be there, and Windows 7 parts are similar to the ones of Vista, despite being of much lower quality, poorly written code parts. Again, it's all public knowledge, anyone (even a bit knowledgeable) can check. For XP one would need to write new drivers from scratch. Period.

  34. What about followers? This Twitter rudiment needs to be paid, too! 1 Pound per 1 follower. Extra followers will be sold with discounts, like one hundred for 80 Pounds. Charge only in British Pounds, who needs those cheap bucks?! I was silly enough to convert part of my Guldens to 30 thousands bucks in the 1990s, now I don't know what to do with them. The exchange rate is too bad. Besides, those after 2006 bucks are too colourful and ugly. Giving everyone my marvellous idea for free!

  36. Fortunately for me, I don't have to actually use the OS personally, on any of my personal systems. I already have the idea that if I ever had to go to Win 11, I'll probably use a Server SKU if there aren't (still) any shells available. Unfortunately, for the systems that I have to interact with (such as in this instance) we do not have the opportunity to use any sort of software that changes the OS, since those computers are used in manufacturing. While it is nice to know that people are still out there creating workarounds for Windows UX annoyances, I'm still suprised no one has attempted to make shell replacements. Even like a launcher-type thing that could be customized. Perhaps it is due to how much functionality is baked into explorer, but I haven't looked into it. Building a simple launcher is easy enough to do.

My German language pack for New Moon 28 - Fixed - Part 1 For New Moon 28, I use the German language pack from here: https://github.com/JustOff/pale-moon-localization/releases/download/28.10.0_RC1/de.xpi which I modified and corrected myself a long time ago in terms of the dev tools. Here is a screenshot of the Web Developer menu (Web-Entwickler) of New Moon 28.10.6a1 (32-bit) (2023-01-19) with my fixed German language pack already installed: My modified language pack is fully working, and all has been translated. 40. Thanks for your appreciation! But unfortunately, others and me can't see it in my posts above ... If you don't understand what I wrote about the valuation of technical contents (which is a kind of support of authors), why don't you use an online translation service? For example, DeepL? The English I wrote was crystal clear. Anyway! The fact that I even have to mention this grievance in terms of valuation should actually not really be necessary ... By the way, a restart feature is trivial and easy to implement into my toggle button. I already did it, and the modified toggle button works perfectly.

  41. Ok! Very good! My statement was: Your answer is: What do you think? What can you do here to support an author of a thread with technical contents, to show him your genuine interest, to appreciate his work he has already done, and to ensure that he is motivated to continue all this and make him generating new, requested code for someone with whom he has never had contact, especially if he shares his work for free? Truth be told, this kind of support I mean has unfortunately diminished a lot or has always been sparse for real work with technical content and is, however, made in droves for every inanity or, rather, for every crap, especially non-technical one, in this forum nowadays. And what I mean, of course, should only be done if the technical contents of this author are also worth it. Any ideas?

  43. Toggle media.autoplay.enabled - A custom button for toggling the Boolean variable media.autoplay.enabled created by AstroSkipper The custom button Toggle media.autoplay.enabled is the same button as Toggle CSP except the changes I already described in my previous post. It's an example how easy another Boolean variable can be toggled by this button. And, I created this version at the very special request of @Mathwiz. I also changed the button images, of course. A green image always means the value true, a red image the value false. Of course, this can be changed and adapted to the user's needs at any time. Here is the download link: https://www.mediafire.com/file/lvsq0ss3xuinxwe/Toggle_media.autoplay.enabled.xml/file Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper
