Registry Tweaks

Recommended Posts

Dr. Watson annoys me, so I have

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

;Disable Dr. Watson Debugger
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug]

Is that a bad idea?

Also, I finally got the Visual Effects working after many hours of trying. I know a lot of other people were having problems with this too. I think its partly because the tweak in the master reg file is incomplete or at least not grouped properly.

Would it be possible to update the master tweak file with better instructions? I have attached my reg file with instructions so it should make things a bit simpler and hopefully fail-safe. I think it will save some people a lot of time.

Thess threads (smc1979's program to get VisualEffects tweaks to work) and (AriesSyntax's explanation of the different keys) were particularly useful.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Start_MinMFU"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage]
"ProgramsCache"=hex

Those are the 2 that effect it.

NOTICE in "ProgramsCache"=hex

I did not add a lenghty hex version. Set the way you like and export. k

In "Start_MinMFU" I set this to 2. Show me the 2 most recent. Check this yourself.

This:

;Disable Security Center
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wscsvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004

from the regtweaks in the first post seems to help me. Check out the regtweaks in the first post.

Yeah thanks but I wasn't clear I was after the automatic update Icon in sys tray that I want to remove?

I've deleted the {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee} in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\My Computer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders but still can't physically delete the Shared Documents folder found in the All Users profile. It still complains that it's a Windows system folder and can't be deleted. Is this because it's got WFP enabled on the folder?

I will update it when there is a good lot of things to add, which everyone could benefit from.

Plus, there's the _small_ problem about the time it takes to go through all the pages and add the new tweaks and sort it and document it properly. The last time I did it took almost a whole day. If someone is willing to make an updated regtweaks file that contains all the tweaks found in this thread, I will gladly replace the file in the first post and give the credits to whoever has done it (though I will need to check the file thoroughly before putting it on first post).

I'm actually thinking of starting a new thread with an updated set of tweaks. Maybe I'll put it up once the uA CD guide update (by Alanoll) is done.

You can try this:

To unregister:

start > run command > type - regsvr32 /u mydocs.dll

Then go here

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

and here

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents

and delete the these folders.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

To register again:

start > run > type - regsvr32 mydocs.dll

Thats also how you can get rid of the other stupid folders like my pictures and my music, etc.

cya,

Will

After having been to this forum for about 2 weeks now, I've come to learn that using the Hacked sfc_os.dll I'll be able to disable WFP. This can also be done using nLite. The same goes for uxtheme.dll.

I'd like to know if there is some kind of standalone exe file that would allow me to switch the WFP on and off just like there are patch files at neowinthat allows me to switch on/ off the uxtheme.

The idea behind this is that I'd like to switch off the the WFP, replace the notepad anc calc and the switch it back on so that folks at home do not mess around with sytem files.

Thanks & Cheers!
