    Thanks for your analysis.
  6. Well, here we are, May 27, 2018... and the iTunes Store is still accessible from Windows Vista on iTunes 12.1.3.6: I wonder if Apple has simply neglected to break the Store on XP/Vista, or perhaps the iTunes Store is now only inaccessible from XP, and not Vista? I don't even have the updates for TLS 1.1/1.2 installed so that must have nothing to do with it. Can any XP users confirm/deny that the iTunes Store is no longer accessible from that OS?

  8. Hi Steven, the claimed and named 64bit version of the Malicious software removal tool (kb890830) in the 18/05/2018 edition of the 'win7-sp1-x64.ulz' is actually the 32 bit version. It stopped the integration cold with an error message. Hope this helps someone. Regards, Gideon.
  9. Umm...there are prebuilt binaries of 86Box ready to be used, no need to compile anything: http://ci.86box.net/job/86Box/ You also need the ROMs: http://tinyurl.com/rs20180320 As for the VXD drivers, yes, you need to install them manually through Device Manager and its Update Driver button to point to the Win95 folder.
  10. You talking about this patch? -> http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=08509080041457806036

  12. Latest Version of Software Running on XP

@Sampei.Nihira I successfully installed FreeOffice 2018 by editing the installer with Orca MSI. I changed VersionNT=601 to VersionNT=501. I also changed This product requires Windows 7 or newer to This product requires Windows XP or newer. However, launching the applications results in a GetTickCount64 dialog. So more work needs to be done to fix this. I'm not sure when I'll get to work on this, and I don't know if it is impossible or difficult. However, I got no installation errors do think it can run on Windows XP.
  13. Well I'm trying out 86Box right now and I'm stuck in step 5 of the building process in the github link, any workaround?

  15. Right, I forgot about that. Extracting files with 7-Zip should work for vanilla Windows 98 SE. There is folder Win95 inside with the driver, so you can just point the device manager to it and install it that way. While VirtualBox may not be perfect, it may work fine for a particular purpose. Just have to try and see. Also check out this thread. The trick mentioned there can help getting SciTech Display Doctor to work, if this is the display driver you'd like to use in virtual machine instead of VBEMP 9x. Otherwise, depending on your CPU, it may crash with general protection fault at startup after the driver is installed. One of those quirks with VirtualBox not being the most suitable for Windows 9x. Maybe it also has an effect on some other piece of software.
  16. Win10 x64 forcing Administrator in Explorer

    the right path is windows\
  17. > I've seen those mentions too, but when I tried it (it was with an executable), I would be interrupted with a message right after starting saying "this is for Windows 95" and it closed. 1) Try running it in Kernelex Win95 compatibility mode. 2) Try extracting the files and installing manually
  18. Well I have tried another emulator like that called PCem. It was dandy, but it only emulated hardware powerful enough for around the mid to late-90s at a stable rate. Any higher and the audio would sound jumpy. I'll give 86Box a look though.

  20. Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE

You can try Easy 7-Zip 0.1.6 Portable instead. http://www.e7z.org/free-download.htm
  21. Last time I played with VirtualBox and Windows 98 SE, the AC97 driver for Windows 95 worked. You can get it from here. Is it the one you tried already, with VXD_406 in its name?

  23. VirtualBox is not ideal for Windows 9x emulation. It never was. You would be MUCH better off using 86Box. It properly emulates variety of old hardware, including old CPUs, GPUs and of course sound cards, including SB16, AWE32, Roland MT-32, Gravis Ultrasound, AudioPCI and some more. With it, you just use the original drivers, just as you would have the original hardware. https://github.com/86Box/86Box You need to download the ROMs first, create a blank hard drive image first, and best option is to use the latest available motherboards they have on offer. Older ones are better for Win95/Win3.1/DOS 6.22. Have fun!
