  2. I wouldn't go quite that far. If you were Tim Cook you wouldn't be in pursuit of patching an OS from 2007, you'd be too preoccupied depreciating one from 2017 Fair enough, I didn't take into account the x86/x64 subsystems. It's easy to forget x64 NT 6.x is like 2 OSes.
  3. Hi, as basilisk52****.zip builds are based on FF52 code, are basilisk55****.zip builds based on Firefox 55 code?
  4. I've narrowed this down along with other similar limitations. The system lockups are due to me running in debug mode; in fact, pressing PrintScreen will lock up the system! The only issue with dependency walker/debugging of programs using my extensions is that trying to track GetProcAddress/LoadLibrary functions will cause a buffer overflow exception. Aside from that, debugging with redirected DLLs is very possible. The obvious solution is to replace the system files with mine, which I was able to do early on, yet now it appears that winlogon/logonui can no longer accept them. And they don't redirection. While Brave and its main DLLs don't seem to export any W7+ functions from DLLs other than kernel32.dll, I decided to copy the rest over and now get a fault in kernel32 at 78DFEC00h, which corresponds to an import table entry for RtlFreeOemString ("Frees the string buffer allocated by RtlUnicodeStringToOemString.") from ntdll, which is called by two subroutines in kernel32. Further investigation required. Visual Studio Code now works, not hindered by my unfinished implementation of Shell_NotifyIconGetRect, but thanks to the fixing of another bug in another function I implemented. Do not, under any circumstances, try to reimplement ntdll functions in other DLLs! There are issues though, with the module that implements extensions/plugins, spdlog.node. It uses up lots of CPU time bringing CPU usage to ~94% on my Xeon X5670. I'll try that soon, once I get the x86 ball rolling, since there doesn't seem to be any x64 binaries available for Windows. In fact, my earlier post about shelving MS Edge and Office 2016+ due to disobedient installers was in error, since I just checked and found that the installers are indeed 32-bit. I've turned into Tim Apple with his OS' relentless pursuit to abandon 32bit binaries. Actually Windows 7 x86 kernel32 code is far simpler than the x64 equivalents, so I have an even better feeling about it. Just need to work quickly enough before x86-32 everything is deprecated!
  5. Sorry to report that TorGuard clients as of late have been experiencing startup failures after installation. It appears to be the version of Qt used by the client software. Furthermore older client versions aren't served on the website, and finding 3rd party mirrors has proven spotty at best. On the bright side, AirVPN is similar in performance-function and even supports as far back as Windows XP at the time of writing.

  7. Is there any good antivirus program? All I can find is clamwin, which doesn't seem to any good
  8. I like to use a fork called Advanced Chrome in the occasional event I need something Chromium-based. It doesn't include any background services nor auto updater, and the fonts and tab styling is a bit less.. tacky. GDI-style font rendering is applied via custom mask for DirectWrite. One variant is based on 74, other 84. https://browser.taokaizen.com/ There's another project hosted on Discord too which seeks to make bread and butter Chromium 76 compatible with XP too, but the project has long been brought to a halt due to unmet dependencies. It does, however partially load under Vista. The UI will open after several error messages with aero glass frames, but it can't render pages. Not even the settings tab. I can DM the zip file if you're curious to inspect the errors. It's not open source so I'm not sure about redistribution rights, otherwise I'd drop the link here.

  15. Yesterday
  16. That was version 11 on Windows 2000, which exhibited some other deficiencies compared to it on XP. But you should try updating the root certificates.
  17. I for one beg to differ. Windows 10 can be made to look and operate exactly like Windows 7, only faster, more stable, and more secure, HOWEVER, to do so requires not only a bit of digging/learning, particularly WRT telemetry and other privacy options, but also some tenacity/perseverance when it comes to those "tweaks" that Microsoft loves to do you a big favor and revert. Here's the basic reason: You and I, and most people at a level to be reading this post, have been around Windows for many years, in some cases decades. I first used Windows at 3.0 (then 3.1 really introduced some stability, and 3.11 introduced networking). I recall playing with memmaker and config.sys for hours to eek an extra 2K of base memory so Doom would load. MOST people who get a new computer today (with no alternative but Windows 10, and worse "Home"), have no clue what the difference between a registry entry and a service is. MOST people today throw their hands up in the air when the machine gives 'em a BSOD or their printer doesn't work, or whatever. Again, you and I and the rest of the gang here know better. We all know enough to make the tweaks needed to make Windows 10 look and feel like nothing more than a better Win7. If anyone is bemoaning Windows 10 because of how it behaves, well, really it's up to them to rein that in and make it behave like you wish it to (and for many, that means "like Win 7 did"). However, the big distinction here, is much of the Windows Metrics parameters we used to use to very finely control how Windows APPEARS (as opposed to behaves) has been taken away from us. And for this, I do agree, Microsoft took a step backwards for us, the minority. But, this is the point. The majority of consumers simply don't have the skills to wield the BFG9000. And so, to reduce the instances of crashes or borked displays, video configurations, etc., Microsoft has dumbed down the interface. I get that from a business perspective, but I wish dearly they'd address the few of us that really do know what we're doing, and give us the "chrome://flags" or "about:config" option. Let *US* take the responsibility... you know, with great power comes great responsibility. *BUT* .... and here's the thing... and we must all really keep this in mind... at least we're not running Mac OS where *everything* is bolted down and you can't do jacketysquat with your own computer. My two cents worth, which today is probably more like .000002 but hey.
  18. And the prize goes to siria. June 2020, I wrote: You need to restrict the user agent to youtube.com or it will wreak havok in other areas. For instance, it's not possible to sign in to YouTube (if you aren't already) as a Google bot. ------------------------- On this end, by default the polymer site loads correctly in Firefox 52 and Chrome 49. They're awful, of course. And the worst thing (for those of use who really use YouTube) is that the video manager has been replaced with the godawful polymer studio. You know. To respond faster to user requests and add all the great features you want. That part of the site is just really slow and messed up, in particular uploading.
  19. On my Windows XP SP3 Posready system: this v3.3 cannot show the toolbar + the document tabs are all white and show no document title? v3.1.2 works fine for me.
  20. What's the solution for this? I was trying to load my 12.0.1016 on a friend's computer and well, yeah. Lots of certificate errors, and clicking the link crashed the page half of the time, the other half my test site (avira.com) loaded incorrectly with no formatting. I don't have these issues on my own computer.
  21. Well I still can't get it to work! Perhaps it needs multi-finger tapping enabled or something. I'm doing exactly what's shown in the video, but nothing happens. The actions are showing correctly on the system tray icon. The Start Menu items adding routine works fine, although IMO it would be better to have the two items in an "Elantech" menu item at the top level rather than in the Accessories folder. I think that if they're put there people won't even notice that they've been added, whereas if something has been added at the top level they will. They can always move them if they don't like them there, I do that all the time after I've installed something new. The removal routine doesn't work, as you feared. I tried tinkering with it, but no joy. It looks a bit vague on the MS page as to whether there should be a space between the comma and the 0x00000002. I tried both ways, but no difference.
  22. SCOOP! We have a (Flash) video here: http://192.72.220.42/eng/tpn_sp_fun.asp http://192.72.220.42/eng/smartPad_demo/index.swf showing the actual magnifying gesture tapping (around half, but there is a roll-up menu at the bottom that allows to go to the point) Try doing that, maybe it will come out as more intuitively. My guess is that (following the written instructions to the letter) you were tapping it wrong till now. I would describe what is shown in the video as: No two fingers are tapped at the same time, seemingly, quite different from: jaclaz
  23. I was sitting right here, at my PC keyboard on day ONE when Mozilla released Firefox ver. 1.0 I downloaded it then and I've used only Firefox since then. I see no reason for all the Blah, Blah, Blah about Firefox. I have it set to download updates automatically, and just don't worry about it. It works! And with "https://www.startpage.com" as my home page and search engine, I stay safe and happy. Y'all have a great day now, Y'hear?
  24. Remember the "X Files", where the announcer would say "The Truth is out there" ??? Well, the truth is that you can set up Win-10 without ever having an MS account, and you don't have to even use a password if you don't want to. And by using the new "Classic Shell" you can make Win-10 look and feel just like Win-7. Two important things to do after the initial install, to tighten up Security, is Disable WUDO and turn OFF Cortana. Doing those two things will make Win-10 much more private and secure. I've installed Win-10 over fifty times so far, and I've done the above mentioned things on every install. My customers love it! Cheers mates!
  25. I love this program as the UI of windows 10 is atrociously offensive to me. I like the plain 10 menu as I really appreciate minimalism. However there is one thing I wish it had that it doesn't: the rounded corner of the Windows 7 style. Maybe even a more rounded corner than it has. I've tried to find a way to edit it to have a rounded corner but I have yet to be successful. I thought I could just edit the msstyles file but that is proving difficult. I found this program:https://github.com/nptr/msstyleEditor/releases/tag/1.4.0.4 But I can't get it to let me round off that corner as the background doesn't seem to be an image file and I can't see a method to do it otherwise? Msstyles seem to be a lot of convoluted bull to me. So, my ask is simple: is there a tutorial on how to create custom menu styles or edit the ones we have? Is there a kind soul that can round that corner and upload the msstyle file? I thought that custom menu styles would be found here a lot more than they don't actually seem to be. Meh. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. I'd be willing to offer a $10 paypal donation to the first person to get me my rounded corner set to my liking! (yes! I know it's just a stupid cosmetic thing but, yeah, it's that important to me!)
  26. Greetings @Andromeda43! Good to have you around!
