I can speak to whether Microsoft fixed this DESIGN FLAW with Vista, I had already answered. It was never there, to begin with. Looks like they implemented that "design" starting Win 7 (which I can't stand!). Strange! Weren't you the one who had recently upgraded? Allegedly.

Hello to everyone. I've installed Windows XP 32 and 64 bit as virtual machine with VMware 17 on my Ubuntu 23.10. The goal is to be able to boot them in UEFI mode. At a certain point of the video,he changes the boot mode from BIOS to UEFI (I can't attach urls). I did the same,but In my case it won't change. The button is greyed out. I've also converted those xp virtual machines from vmdk to img and I tried to boot them with bhyve (the hypervisor used on FreeBSD),but they didn't boot. So,I can't check if the vmdk images are able to boot with VMware because I'm not able to enable the UEFI option and I can't check if they don't boot with bhyve because they don't boot with UEFI in VMware.

@user57 Not really. I have only 256 KB Cache Ram chips. With this, I can use with "Write Through" only 64 MB from the 256 installed MB. This you can see in Task Manager. XP shows the full 256 MB, but now uses only the cached 64MB from it. I order from China 1024 KB Cache chips for few Euro, but they arrive here only in May Dietmar PS: I notice a funny behavior: When I make a first try to install XP SP3 on a 486 cpu, this works but later I get a message, that "NULL" was not found, but the 486 compi works. Via this way, in "System" no entry for cpu or ram. But when I use the install from my Asrock z370 k6 board, it shows the correct ram and also the correct 100MHZ 486 cpu from AMD. And I notice, that there exists at least 2 different IDE controller for the Shuttle Hot 433 board, vers. 1..3. They are NOT compatible. One uses ESDI IDE(???) and the other the normal IDE. So, I can not make a generic XP SP3 here for all of them for download, because I have only one harddisk with 8.4 GB and so everything for this needs to be done at least 2 times.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post, but here goes! I use Explorer Patcher v22621.3296.641 and StartAllBack 3.7.8. I figured out how to have a Windows 10 style start menu using them together. Been very happy with the look and usability of Windows 11 with the 3rd party software solutions I've collected over the years. I had to reinstall the Windows 11 in early March for 2 laptops. They had different corrupt system32 files and it had to be done. I have Win 11 pro 23h2 22631.3447 and all drivers and software are up-to-date. April 23rd I received the kb5036580 update and it ruined everything! I've been searching different sites to see if anyone else has had a problem with the update and if there is a solution, but no joy! My start menu changed to Windows 11 after the update and I couldn't find anyway to get it back the way it was. I uninstalled StartAllBack and tried Start11 to see if that would work, but it didn't change the start menu either. Using Start11 previously I was able to make changes to the Windows 11 start menu that made it useable (still don't like it), but that didn't work after the update either. No way to change the new start menu. So, back to StartAllBack! StartAllBack's Windows 7 style start menu's still work! I don't like the Windows 7 start menu's after using the Windows 10 style start menu for so many years. I thought I'd give it a try though. I set it up, but I just couldn't stand it. I had to un-install the update and everything is back to normal. I know Windows update will keep trying to give me this update. I've turned off updates for now and I don't have a problem getting my updates from the Windows catalog, but I don't want this to be a permanent solution. This problem may be unique to me. Am I using EP and StartAllBack in a unique way that no one else is doing? I'm getting all the benefits from StartAllBack and have my Windows 10 style start menu, too.

Unsure if that is what the OP wants or not. But I do know that is why I do NOT use Windows built-in removal function ever since using Win7 on machines at work (removing USB-based Optical Inspection cameras forced machines to reset if removed while still POWERED). This was never an issue with Embedded XP. It IS an issue with Win7 and various versions of KDE (Linux). I cannot speak to whether Microsoft fixed this DESIGN FLAW with Vista/8/8.1/10/11.

i came to notice that in that screenshot i see 256 mb ram, it seems you had more success then the old 32 mb problem ?

There is no real need to use the tray icon to remove an external drive. Windows does Not use delayed write on external drives by default. Most drives will flash if their writing data, if there is no indicator simply wait a few minutes and unplug the drive.

Perhaps I went too technical there and did not get my point trough. What I try to do is help avoid people from making bad decision for their security or privacy. There are too many shills shilling too many allegedly secure or private services on the internet and unless someone does breakdown for problems with services and claims they may think they are secure to send anything, even data you you normally would not over it when using them. Point you think you are invulnerable is point you are more vulnerable than ever. I want everyone to take any promises of security or privacy with great grain of salt and not put all eggs to one basket.

I missed you guys too. I am happy you both are still here. My life will never be same as it was before but I believe that as long as blood is still pumping on my veins it is worth living and keep fighting forward.

On Windows Vista and higher there should be no need to manually update those certificates anymore. Like Draker said, the behaviour on these OS since Vista is the same ; Windows checks for Trusted CTL once a week and the Untrusted CTL every day through Windows Update using the automatic daily update mechanism (CTL updater) ! Disabling WU may prevent those certificates from being updated ( I haven't tested it myself so can't confirm) To modify this behaviour (at your own risk) it's possible to change the following registry keys : Enable or disable the Windows AutoUpdate of the trusted CTL: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot] "DisableRootAutoUpdate"=dword:00000000 0 to enable or 1 to disable. This key is not present by default. Without a key present, the default is enabled. Enable or disable the Windows AutoUpdate of the untrusted CTL: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\SystemCertificates\AuthRoot] "EnableDisallowedCertAutoUpdate"=dword:00000001 1 to enable or 0 to disable. This key is not present by default. Without a key present, the default is enabled.

Funny you should say that! The mention of Stylus jogged my memory that I was already doing exactly that on 360Chrome, and have been doing so for well over a year! Strangely though, if I switch off Stylus now the Digital Spy forum site still looks OK, so they've obviously changed something. I've tried installing Stylus on Thorium, and importing the Stylus settings from 360Chrome, but it doesn't work, the font is still wrong. I've attached my Stylus settings file, do you think it's still correct? The site still looks correct in Supermium without Stylus even installed. stylus-2024-04-23.json

Not sure how this test is supposed to work. It always shows the URL you posted, with no extra parameters. This also occurs on a clean profile, with no extensions installed. It's always a blank page with the text: "Look in the URL bar for the presence of a query string parameter."... and just the clean URL.

Since I created an account on Codeberg, I get these crashes only in single-process mode, They occur absolutely randomly without uploading any file. It is enough to click some links here and there, and the browser crashes immediately without any message. And it never happens with the same link. Very strange!
