	<u><span style="font-size:18px;"><strong>MSFN and its lack of search results in Google, Bing, and all search engines depending on them</strong></span></u>
</p>

<p>
	As I had already reported in two other threads, starting from here:<br />
	<a href="https://msfn.org/board/topic/185966-my-browser-builds-part-5/page/192/#findComment-1287545" rel="">https://msfn.org/board/topic/185966-my-browser-builds-part-5/page/192/#findComment-1287545</a><br />
	and from here:<br />
	<a href="https://msfn.org/board/topic/187750-sometimes-redirecting-to-spamgamble-site-when-accessing-msfnorgboard/page/8/#findComment-1287566" rel="">https://msfn.org/board/topic/187750-sometimes-redirecting-to-spamgamble-site-when-accessing-msfnorgboard/page/8/#findComment-1287566</a><br />
	<strong>MSFN</strong> has been de-indexed and its search results removed from <strong>Google</strong>, <strong>Bing</strong>, and <strong>all other search engines</strong> which <strong>depend on them</strong>, as, for example, <strong>DuckDuckGo</strong>, <strong>Startpage</strong>, <strong>Ecosia</strong>, <strong>Qwant</strong>, <strong>eTools.ch</strong>, <strong>yahoo!</strong>, and so on. I call them <strong>Google's</strong> and <strong>Bing's</strong> <strong>slave machines</strong>. <img alt=":P" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.png" title=":P" /> I am <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://msfn.org/board/profile/311648-astroskipper/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="311648" href="https://msfn.org/board/profile/311648-astroskipper/" rel="">@AstroSkipper</a> and located in <strong>Germany</strong>, and here are some screenshots to show you what I mean:<br />
	<br />
	<img alt="Google-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="210.08" height="750" style="height:auto;" width="334" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/Sx5rFhDX/Google-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	<br />
	<strong>No</strong> relevant search results regarding <strong>MSFN</strong>. All that means <strong>MSFN</strong> is now stuck in the <strong>digital gulag</strong> starting with <strong>Google's Core Updates</strong> on <strong>21 May 2026</strong>. And here a screenshot from <strong>Google Search</strong> with the search term "<strong>msfn.org</strong>":<br />
	<br />
	<img alt="Google-Search-msfn-org-29052026.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="84.46" height="750" style="height:auto;" width="763" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/rwH7bbdY/Google-Search-msfn-org-29052026.png" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	<br />
	Here you can clearly see that <strong>Google</strong> considers <strong>MSFN</strong> a spammer as sites with domain <strong>msfn.org</strong> are shown in <strong>Thai</strong> or <strong>Siamese</strong> language. Now, my question to <strong>all members of MSFN</strong>:<br />
	<br />
	<span style="font-size:16px;"><strong>Are you also affected? <img alt=":dubbio:" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_dubbio.gif" title=":dubbio:" /></strong></span><br />
	<br />
	Please post screenshots of search results with the search term "<strong>MSFN Windows XP</strong>" for exact comparison! Or alternatively, state in a clear sentence which country you are from and whether you are affected or not!  <img alt="smilie-a-010.gif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="120.00" height="60" style="height:auto;" width="50" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/wMHq42VX/smilie-a-010.gif" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	<br />
	And here are screenshots of the last two major search engines, <strong>Brave</strong> and <strong>Mojeek</strong>, which show correct results without the foreign <strong>Thai</strong> language to indicate spammer sites:<br />
	<br />
	<img alt="Brave-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="142.86" height="750" style="height:auto;" width="492" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/sf4CV6FX/Brave-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	<br />
	<br />
	<img alt="Mojeek-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="111.11" height="750" style="height:auto;" width="632" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/90MbHQ5Y/Mojeek-MSFN-Windows-XP.png" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	<br />
	We need information from all countries to see if there is a real problem and to report it then to the site owner/administrator <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://msfn.org/board/profile/1-xper/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="1" href="https://msfn.org/board/profile/1-xper/" rel="">@xper</a> and supervisor <span><a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://msfn.org/board/profile/94953-tripredacus/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="94953" href="https://msfn.org/board/profile/94953-tripredacus/" rel="">@Tripredacus</a></span>. And one thing is crystal clear: <strong>Nihil semper ad nihilum! <img alt=":P" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.png" title=":P" /></strong><br />
	<br />
	Cheers, AstroSkipper <img alt="matrix.gif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="93.75" height="45" style="height:auto;" width="48" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/9XNRQdMg/matrix.gif" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

	Today (<strong>June 4th 2026</strong>) I noticed that I can no longer view a member's <strong>country flag</strong> to the (upper) left of their username (and above their avatar picture):

<p>
	<img alt="N8qhnDY.png" class="ipsImage" style="height:auto;" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/N8qhnDY.png" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	There appears to be an empty placeholder for the country flag, as one can see when hovering over the "place" the flag should've been displayed, but the actual flag is MIA <img alt=":(" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_sad.png" title=":(" /> ; could this issue be looked into, please?

<p>
	<strong>PS1</strong>: In my <strong>account settings</strong>, I have chosen to always view members' country flags (if available) ...

</p>

<p>
	So basically from what I can see we have <strong>4</strong> problems right now:
</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		A forum <strong>hack</strong> that as a result <strong>de-indexed</strong> MSFN from search results
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Spam accounts</strong> that lead to registration block
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Lack of donations</strong> to <strong>pay</strong> for <strong>Invision</strong> software
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Lack of maintenance</strong>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	#1 and #2 are the most important ones right now and it may very well be that due to lack of maintenance the forum remained at <strong>old software versions</strong> which is <strong>much worse for servers</strong> than it is for client devices. And eventually got hacked. Cleaning the malware is one thing and securing the software so that the vulnerabilities aren't there anymore is another and I think it may actually be <strong>easier</strong> to just <strong>redo the forum</strong> board from the ground-up. A fresh board can be brought to life with just a few hours.
</p>

<p>
	But I think it's important to keep <strong>MSFN</strong> alive due to the <strong>incredible amount of useful info already there</strong>, the fact that there is <strong>no forum quite like it</strong>: <strong>eclipse.cx and legacydev.org suffer </strong>from<strong> dramas</strong> causing a large portion of users not being reachable on one or the other and a lot of the <strong>actual software development happens here</strong> (especially drivers nowadays). And MSFN is a really active forum for the technical state that it's currently in.
</p>

<p>
	Now what IMO has to be done:
</p>

<ol>
	<li>
		Archive everything as it is
	</li>
	<li>
		Put up a fresh install of a <strong>free</strong> forum software like <strong>phpBB</strong>
	</li>
	<li>
		Transfer users (with more than 0 posts) and emails so that they can redo their password using email verification on the new board
	</li>
	<li>
		<strong>Strip</strong> the old forum<strong> of any javascript/php code to clear malware</strong> and put it in <strong>read only mode </strong>somewhere like archived.msfn.org
	</li>
	<li>
		Maybe transfer the contents of some of the most active topics.
	</li>
	<li>
		Consider giving some maintenance access to most trusted forum admins so that the software <strong>gets properly updated</strong>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	And there you go, it requires some work, but problems solved, if a change like this happens I promise to donate to the forum and I'm sure many users would do the same, I think they just don't really want to donate right now due to lack of maintenance happening anyway. And <strong>phpBB unlike invision is free!</strong>

	I was previously able to log in with my "display name" and password. But now all of a sudden, when I try to log in, I see this: "Please enter an email address." I can still log in, but I have to use e-mail address and password. Is there any particular reason for this change? Are our e-mail addresses in fact stored as usernames in the database? I see there's a topic for requesting a <a href="https://msfn.org/board/topic/71610-you-want-to-change-your-username/" rel="">username change</a> for manual handling and approval.
</p>

<p>
	A "display name" change should technically not require manual handling, and be editable at will, within profile settings or account settings. I think you will find this kind of setup on sites like Disqus and many other sites that have a "display name". I believe all Discourse based forums have this, and they may have even coined the term "display name". Are our display names on MSFN in fact our usernames? Usernames are required to be unique. That's not a requirement for what other sites refer to as display names.

	I received a PM by a fellow member and - for whatever reason - I cannot reply to it, nor I can start a new conversation/ send a new message.
</p>

<p>
	In both cases I got code 403 forbidden.
</p>

<p>
	In the remote case the user (Bacho) happens to read this (there is nothing personal in the message, he was asking about an issue he has with booting an XP installation booting only from a USB stick and failing when the USB stick is removed), the reply would have been:
</p>

<blockquote class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote="">
	<div class="ipsQuote_citation">

	</div>

	<div class="ipsQuote_contents">
		<p>
			 Very likely you are missing some boot files on your C: drive, namely:
		</p>

		<p>
			NTLDR
		</p>

		<p>
			NTDETECT.COM
		</p>

		<p>
			BOO*.INI &lt;-replace the asterisk with a T
		</p>

		<p>
			Check this thread:
		</p>

		<p>
			<a href="https://msfn.org/board/topic/129891-invalid-bootini-loading-from-cwindows/" rel="">https://msfn.org/board/topic/129891-invalid-bootini-loading-from-cwindows/</a>
		</p>

		<p>
			it contains the basic informations  on the needed files.
		</p>

		<p>
			The thread is about a standard installation, if you have a particular install (not on C:\ drive or anyway in a logical volume inside extended, the contents of BOOT.INI needs to be changed accordingly).
		</p>
	</div>
</blockquote>

<p>
	After the usual zillion tests, it is not the known BOOT.INI issue alone, it is the link to the other thread in the form of a preview that triggers the behaviour, the text only link allows it BUT this worked on this post (the 4.3 word is present alright), but not on the PM, where I had to remove all occurrences .
</p>

	Why since February 2023, the MSFN board is not available in Russia without a VPN? Checking availability through the service <a href="https://2ip.ru/site-availability" rel="external nofollow">https://2ip.ru/site-availability</a> shows that the MSFN board is not available in Russia:

</p>

<p>
	I'm currently accessing the MSFN board via the VeePN VPN extension on Mozilla Firefox 84.0.2 on Windows 10: <a href="https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/3546485/veepn_free_fast_security_vpn-2.0.7.xpi" rel="external nofollow">https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/file/3546485/veepn_free_fast_security_vpn-2.0.7.xpi</a><br />
	MSFN admins, please fix this bug for Russian users!

	And it would also be helpful to dispel the growing suspicions that there are members who have multiple accounts.

	As already reported multiple times by different members, I am also <strong>not</strong> able to insert specific links into posts for months. If I want to insert any <strong>link to a MSFN post</strong>, I <u>have to</u> display it as a <strong>normal link</strong> every time, otherwise an error message pops up. It is also <strong>not</strong> possible to insert other special links such as a harmless <u><strong>custom button link</strong></u> in the <strong>code area</strong> of the editor. What is actually going on here? <img alt=":angry:" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_mad.gif" title=":angry:" /> <img alt=":dubbio:" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_dubbio.gif" title=":dubbio:" /> In any case, this makes it almost impossible to post more complex content with the <strong>MSFN forum editor</strong>. <img alt=":realmad:" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_realmad.gif" title=":realmad:" /> And this <strong>editor</strong> is definitely <strong>broken</strong> for whatever reasons and has<strong>n't</strong> already been fun for a long time. <img alt=":no:" data-emoticon="" src="https://msfn.org/board/uploads/emoticons/default_no.gif" title=":no:" /> To speak plainly, I am <strong>not</strong> a fan of such restrictions introduced for whatever reasons. <img alt="nimportequoi.gif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="72.22" height="26" style="height:auto;" width="36" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/L8TCnV91/nimportequoi.gif" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> And if an editor offers a certain feature like a <b>link</b> in a <strong>preview box</strong>, then it should also work. At least, this feature used to work in the past. In any case, I'm <strong>not</strong> a fan of "<strong>improvement for the worse</strong>", which seems to be the norm these days. <img alt="gyrophare.gif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="133.33" height="24" style="height:auto;" width="18" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/Wz6CTsxt/gyrophare.gif" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> <br />
	<br />
	There is a nice saying from the beginnings of the home computer era that still carries a lot of wisdom even in these days: <img alt="ntars.gif" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="73.33" height="44" style="height:auto;" width="60" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/1zpZdMbL/ntars.gif" src="https://msfn.org/board/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />

<p>
	Maybe something can be done to solve the problem?

<p>
	Tripredacus has an account on reboot.pro, if any other Mod/Admin needs to contact the user I can try to serve as "communication officer".
