	Is it possible to set a sound alert that plays when an SMS arrives like on a conventional phone? I have a Showme Redmi 14C (Android 15). In <em>Settings &gt; Sound &amp; Vibration</em> there is a category called "Other notifications and reminders". SMS apparently fall under this. The problem with this is that there is a lot of notification spam, and they all make the same sound. Software updates, most apps ask you to show notifications, a flashlight app that shows a notification that the flashlight is on. I have turned off some but others still remain. Can I set sound for just SMS?
</p>

<p>
	The sound customization is really lacking. There is no "ascending" volume, which make the ring start quieter and rise (in case the phone is in my proximity already). I need to bake this into the MIDI file.

	I got my first contemporary smartphone. A Showme Redmi 14C running HyperOS 2  (Android 15). I am not impressed by how many hoops I have to jump through to connect it to the computer. When first connected, it showed in the Windows 2008 R2 device manager as "Redmi 14" of course without a driver. After I enabled developer mode by tapping on the version number and enabled file transfer in developer options, it now shows in the device manager as "MTP", which I guess stands for Media Transfer Protocol. The smartphone is still patially "locked" whatever that means and I am not allowed to access it fully.
</p>

<p>
	In my previous phone running Android Gingerbread I had to pull down the top bar to enable USB Mass Storage. It was a sort of hidden feature that I had to Google for. It then appears as a USB stick without any driver needed. But not so much with the new smartphone.
</p>

<p>
	Can I use this MTP protocol without installing bloated software? On Windows Server 2008 R2. (Not any current sofware that requires Windows 10)
</p>

<p>
	What other easy methods for transferring files are there?
</p>

	I notice that the volume on the built in speaker on my Xiomi Redmi 14C is noticeably jerky. I do realize that the sound of the speaker can only be crap. But the volume jumps make it unnecessarily worse. It sounds like a crude expander is active. Not a compressor, but an expander. When a voice (or voice-like frequencies) comes into the foreground, the loudness rapidly increases and falls back down. This also happens in ringtones. My old Samsung phone doesn't do this.
</p>

<p>
	For example, the song by 4 Non Blondes <span><span>"What's Up" sounds like this, capital letters representing louder sound.</span></span>
</p>

<p>
	when I'm lying in bEd just to get IT All Out what's in my head, and I, I'm feeling a little peculiar. and so i wake in the mORNing and I step outside, i take a deep breath and i get real high, and i scream from the top of my lungs: what's goinG ON. and I sAy hey-YEAH-YEAH-YEhe hey-yEAH-yeah. i said HEY, what's goINg ON.
</p>

<p>
	Is this a helpful setting that can be tweaked?

	<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">Simple History:</span></strong>
</p>

<p>
	I have tried unlocking my bootloader, opening KingRoot, installing TWRP, and everything in between, but ultimately had to reinstall the ROM.
</p>

<p>
	<strong>Conclusion:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	TWRP was made for famous, better devices, and that humanity liked them, why would you make a TWRP for a device you don't even know... and also humanity didn't even know them? This is my conclusion, but in my thinking, TWRP was made only for specific devices
</p>

<p>
	<strong>History:</strong>
</p>

<p>
	It all began when I discovered that it was possible to modify the ROM of my device, which had lost support since 2018. Afterward, I learned about TWRP. pela primeira vez na vida, os tutoriais diziam para eu segura o botão HOME, o botão de volume - e o botão POWER, então, eu apertei no botão, do Odim o Botão iniciar, apertando esse botão, the device restarted and began to run Android again. I continued with the tutorial but realized that this shouldn't have happened. Instead, my device should have booted into TWRP. Due to this, I repeated this process multiple times until I came to the conclusion that it wouldn't work. I then started to search for my device's model and download several TWRPs. Eventually, I had to restore the original ROM. I'm still trying to download that TWRP. I found one, but I was so confused that I didn't realize it and discarded it. So far, I haven't been able to successfully install the root on my device...

	Hello all, this is something that has been making my mind boggle.
</p>

<p>
	As you fellow forum members certainly know, Android has been giving its versions codenames starting from Cupcake upto Pie. And as you may have noticed, Android 10 was not given the name of any confectionery item.
</p>

<p>
	My opinion on this is: Android 10 should have been given a name of Android Q- for Qubani-ka-Meetha (it's a popular Indian sweet made of apricots, wiki page will be linked here). How many of you fellow MSFN members share my opinion and agree with what I say? Please let me know your opinion about this.

	The bank that I use decided they will implement mandatory 2FA authentication to access their web services - the second factor second being none other than a smartphone app. For now it's still possible to access it using certificate installed on the computer and the password, but smartphone app is going to replace the certificate soon.
</p>

<p>
	So now you have to own a smartphone - to enter PIN code in the app every time to be able to login to the website on the computer, something that was possible without a fuss until recently.
</p>

<p>
	Now what really p***ed me off, their app must have tripped on the busybox (apparently one of many checks for signs of rooted phone) that was pre-installed with my current custom ROM and also sometimes came in handy in the past. Having only encountered one such app until now (for authorizing online payments - and it wasn't mandatory, you could've opted for dedicated code generator device), that was happy as long as it didn't find su binary / SuperSU.apk, this one caught me by surprise.
</p>

<p>
	OK, so busybox can be removed entirely. Or installed systemlessly (so it doesn't reside on /system partition) with help of Magisk, which facilitates providing root access, hiding it from apps that don't want to see it and providing means to be able to do other modifications without modifying files on /system partition.
</p>

<p>
	This banking app seems to have flagged my phone on their servers during activation process, so now can't be activated at all. It must have taken its serial number, which can't be spoofed in practice I think. There's Xposed module that does it, but there's no way around Google's SafetyNet with activated Xposed Framework.
</p>

<p>
	What a load of crap! So one's supposed to just buy new phone for one stupid app...which could function on the old one...if it wanted to.
</p>

<p>
	Planned obsolescence in general is really strong there...let's buy a new smartphone every year or two. New one would just be bigger, clunkier and preloaded with tons of crap I don't want or need, that can't be removed without root access and since <a href="https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/03/11/safetynet-improvements-kill-magisk-hide/" rel="external nofollow">Google's fixing SafetyNet</a>...
</p>

<p>
	End of rant!

	I have to admit - it's a tad weird talking about modern mobile platforms on MSFN.  It was the opposite phenomenon I felt in the 1990s, being that I was the only guy still playing vinyl in a CD world.
</p>

<p>
	I prefer the simplicity of the LG e-mail app, and I would like to run it on my two Samsung tablets.  The app (which i obtained  from the APK sites) will install just fine, but is unable to start.  I'm running a version that's correct fro the platform I'm on.  I tried version 7x on my Oreo tablet, and versions 5x and 6x were both tried on this Nougat tablet.
</p>

<p>
	Does anyone know how to possibly make this happen?  If you need any more info, just ask away <span class="ipsEmoji">😁</span>

<p>
	Hi MSFN! I messed around with my old, slow phone (with no warranty left) by rooting it with iRoot, then proceeded to remove system applications that bloated up the phone, then installed clockworkmod recovery. After countless failed attempts of trying to upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, I upgraded the bootloader then I noticed the wifi won't turn on. I tried resetting the phone, but the removed system apps and wifi did not come back. I tried airplane mode, but the phone got stuck on it, with the icon still appearing after reboot while the options said it was off. I tried using a backup from when the wifi did work with no luck, I kept getting pestered with a message that a certain process wasn't working. After fighting with the phone I tried going into odin download mode then flashed the i747 stock rom. This fixed the errors, but now my phone is missing system apps and the wifi still REFUSES to turn on.
</p>

<p>
	Any tips?
</p>

<p>What’s going to be your next phone? Will it be Galaxy S6? Well frankly speaking, I'm amazed by the screen and new design. Non-removable battery/SD card could be a problem but I am going to try some extended battery case. Samsung finally realized that importance of design.</p>
