My Windows XP OS Addons and Update Pack (2023)

The RyanVM forum has been down since early February, so I have decided to provide links to my Windows XP addons and update packs here. I recommend that integration is done with the RyanVM integrator version 1.6.1b2.1 which can be obtained here. It needs to be updated by placing 7za.exe version 16.2 in the plugins\7zip folder, and renaming it 7zdn.exe

KB931125 - Root Certificate Update (40,0,2195,0)

KB952013 - ICCD Smart Card Driver. The ICCD Smart Card Driver is probably superfluous, because Windows XP ships with a ICCD smart card driver usbiccd.sys. Neither driver is installed untill a smart card device is connected to your PC.
KB971286 - WinUSB 2.0 driver. The Winusb coinstaller and driver are included but installation occurs when a WCID compatible device is connected. Rather than require a custom INF file for the device the generic hardware ID WINUSB,USB\MS_COMP_WINUSB is used. In the Found New Hardware wizard there will be the message “this wizard helps you install software for: USBDevice”. Select “Install the software automatically”. If you prefer to use the WMTP driver delete the file wcid.inf in the %SystemRoot%\INF directory and it will be installed automatically.
KB4500331 - A remote code execution fix for Remote Desktop Services (critical).
The ActiveX version of Flash has been removed from these update packs, because no-one watches videos in IE8.
The AppMgmt service has been removed from the Home Edition because this is a Pro version only feature, and the necessary files are missing from the home edition.
The security tab in the properties of files and folders has been made available in normal mode for the Home Edition.
The Windows Management Instrumentation consol has been added to the Home Edition.

Credit must be given to 5ereph for initiating this addon and the time and effort he must have put into it.

This addon slipstreams all the POSReady 2009 updates released untill EOL on 09 April 2019 directly into a 32-bit XP SP3 source when used with the XPSP3_QFE_UpdatePack. All files are from the SP3QFE branch.

An update to the Adobe Flash Player has not been included because no-one plays videos in Internet Explorer 8.

Windows Automatic Update will offer a number of obsolete version of gdiplus and the Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits for Windows XP (KB2900986) when the integrated source is installed. The gdiplus updates I recorded are as follows: KB4473077, KB4462987, KB4458000, KB4039384, KB4015383, KB3178034, KB3065979, KB3035132, KB3029944, KB3013126, KB2957503, KB2834886, KB2659262, KB4463361, KB4022884, KB2412687. This list is probably not exhaustive. They are installed as side by side assemblies in the WinSxS folder. The integrator cannot handle multiple versions of the same module in the WinSxS folder, so it is only possible to integrate the last POSReady 2009 version of gdiplus. Once integration is complete there will be two versions of gdi plus, one from the uppdate pack, and one from this addon. It seems likely that the last POSReady 2009 version of gdiplus is backwards compatible with programs written for previous versions since 2012. Therefore I recommend that you do not install these older versions of gdiplus and disable Automatic Updates.

The XPSP3 QFE POSReady Addon and XPSP3 QFE Update Pack can be integrated into the source using the RVM integrator separately or at the same time. If the are integrated seperately the [Obsolete] section of entries_posready.ini will remove security catalogues and registry entries made by the update pack for updates made obsolete by the addon. If integrated at the same time the [ExtraFilesEdits] section of entries_posready.ini will prevent the update pack from installing the registry entries for updates made obsolete by the addon, and the [Obsolete] section will remove the security catalogues.

5ereph’s original XPSP3 QFE POSReady Updates 20180917 disabled the Jet 4.0 database engine. The registry entries for Jet 4.0 have been restored and msjet40.dll and msjetoledb40.dll have been registered in the ActiveX/COm section of the registry.

FileTargets is a shell context menu extension that adds a sub-menu with all your favorite folder names to the context-menu of all files and folders in your system so you can copy/move selected files to pre-defined, often used folders with the click of a mouse. The FileTargets menu is similar to the standard SendTo menu but is much more advanced since it allows you to create subgroups, automatically add new folders, copy file path names and much more.

One of the really indispensable shell extensions I know is this one from Moon Software. I find it especially useful to quickly put downloaded music albums into their correct folders (like indie, prog, synth, techno etc.).

Ths is a free prog, only when installing it is required that you enter a password which is freely collectable from their home page. Anyone have any ideas on how to overcome this obstacle to make a silent installer or nlite add-on? Perhaps an auto-it script would be the simplest, only my auto-it skills sucks.

...here goes a "#!%$*" of a question...

I have had some success with the windows xp nlite customization tool(again as a "hobbyist" only...),but was wondering if it is possible to remove addons (windows xp nlited addons install errors in a "virtual machine" environment..) with the same nlite tool (or other PE,NT customization tool)??

...is it possible to remove corrupted slipstreamed addons without deleting then replacing the windows i386 folder/files with an 'un~nlited' i386 folder???

I have been toying with nLite for a few days. I seem to be doing a few things wrong. nLite tells me certain fixes were not expected. I vaguely recall reading, the fixes need to be listed as per their issue date. But nLite sorts the fixes with the KB###### not corresponding to their issue dates. I prefixed all the fixes with their respective issue date but nLites does not sort the fixes according to the alphanumeric file names. Can some body please point the way. Thanks.

Using Add-on Maker for Nlite:

1° - Create a folder.

2° - Put the archives of the installation on that same floder.

3° - In Files of Program select the folder where the archives of installation are.

4° - In Instalation file select the archive that you want to be executed by the system.

5º - If the installation uses switches, type them.

6° - In the descripition field, type information about the program.

7° - Click on 'Make File' and select a folder to save the archive .CAB you just created.

[Request] Remote Desktop 7.0 for Windows Server 2003

The latest Remote Desktop Client was released only for XP and Vista, but I'm using it on Server 2003 with no issues (I've extracted and copied files manually, as update.inf and catalog doesn't match operating system). Is possible to integrate it on Windows 2003?

Goal:

This addon slipstreams Internet Explorer 8 and its updates directly into an NT 5.2 x64 source.

Details:

Intended for Windows XP/2003 x64 SP2, with or without localization via MUI packs (Addon).
SP2 is required to use this addon. The following old SP1 files in the original installer have been omitted from v2009-03_x for compatibility with RVMi:
- browseui.dll, shdocvw.dll and shlwapi.dll
  wbrowseui.dll, wshdocvw.dll and wshlwapi.dll
All files are from the SP2QFE branch, where applicable.
Tested in VirtualBox 4.3.28 throughout development.
Tested with and without my update pack.
Integrates with RyanVM Integrator 1.6 and nLite 1.4.9.1, or later versions of either.

All tweaks previously included within the IE8 addon have been removed and placed in entries_IE8Tweaks.ini. Integrate the INI as is to include all my preferred tweaks—they're fully commented and tested—or edit as you see fit. Tweaks must be in INF format and will be applied to all users.
The following files and their WoW64 equivalents from the IE6 cumulative update have been added to the updated addon since v2012-02_1 to replace almost all of the SP1 files included in the original installer. This was done for completeness as well as to include the fix for the functionality described in KB972582. The inclusion of these files has been tested off and on for over a year with no ill effects. Please let me know if you have any difficulties.
- browseui.dll ..- Replaces SP1 file included in original installer.
  ieencode.dll ..- Not included with IE8 but added as part of the IE6 cumulative update.
  mshtml6.dll ...- Replaces original IE6 file used until T-13. Original filename: mshtml.dll

The SP1 file shlwapi.dll and its WoW64 equivalent are included in the original installer but are not actually IE files. They are still not included in either addon. The latest version can be found in security update KB2926765 which is included in the update pack.

Notes: It now relies on .NET Framework 3.5, so if it is not previously installed, it will offer to install the .NET 3.5 SP1 client. That's not really a problem, as you can install .NET 3.5 as a true add-on prior to Paint.NET. It has a nifty page with plug-ins here http://forums.getpai...ublishing-only/ . How to use:

Run CCleaner_Slim_online.cmd and the maker will download the slim installer of CCleaner and create a silent installer with commands to install it in the language of the operating system and an AddOn for RVMi/nLite in the output folder:

Because the slim installer is available a few days after the release of a new CCleaner version,
you can also manually download the (slim or standard) installer and put it in ccsetup folder, then run CCleaner_local.cmd
The maker will automatically name the SFX & AddOn 'Slim" or "Standard" based on the file size.

Be aware that the standard setup will install Chrome silently along with CCleaner if you have an active internet connection when executed !
The maker will warn you about this if it detect the standard installer.

Adobe Flash Add-on Creator - NOT NEEDED. USE NEW NLITE.

I used to have a thread here with the latest versions of Adobe Flash for IE and other browsers. I guess they took it down because they don't want Adobe binaries redistributed here.

I have now created a batch file that will download the installer and turn it into an nLite add-on for you.

For IE ActiveX, download the script here: New nLite now supports direct integration of the Flash installers. ActiveX Installer

Just extract the folder somewhere on your hard drive and double click flash.add-on.creator.bat.

Anytime there is a new version of Flash release, just rerun the script and it will delete the current add-on and recreate a new one with the latest version. I will try to reply to this post when I hear of a new version.

As of this writing the latest Flash player is v11.2.202.228.

v11.2 brings with it a silent upgrade system checked every 25 hours via scheduled tasks. So you could theoretically not worry about always having the latest as it will update after your reinstall Windows.

XPSF2 slipstreamed with SP3 is greater than 700M

nLite was run with each XPSP2 and SP3 CDs and kept getting total ISO size was > 800MB. Tried many options, but unable to reduce these two codes together without any ADDONS etc. If this is correct, what value is there in nLite to produce an ISO file that will fit on a 700 MB CD?
