Based on the method developed by ZileXa (original thread here), I have built a scripted solution that does all of what ZileXa outlines in his post and more.

UPDATE: version 1.2.4 now available, March 18,2005 (See Change log for more info)

How to:
Download the Nero Custom Installer Creator extract the contents into the same directory as your nero-*.exe and nve-*.exe files, read the manual.pdf and then run !MakeIt.cmd - thats it!

I am aware there are other methods by other MSFN members and each solution has its place and lots of hard work has gone into them. The solutions here are one of a range of alternative - the choice in the end is yours.

Further to the last post pretty sure I was using the right pack, Dled this one & still gettin the same result obviously missing somethin??

very strange... have a look for the followiing line in your !makeit.cmd file


and you can test by putting this at the command prompt:


other than that i don't know why it would not be extracting, i haven't changed any of that section of the code. Basically if all the files are in the same directory as nero-*.exe then it should work find. I just tested it here again on my range of machines and it worked fine. mind you i have my winrar in a different location and therefore have to change that variable... but that is it.

Just ran it no echo. My winrar in C prog files, shouldnt be a prob? Its certainly finding winrar as its building the custom nero.exe but without the prog files??

here is a cmd for you to try again... i have opened everthing up so you should see everything going on.... lets see what happens with this.

Yeah thanks Felix can't exactly see why but seems to skip extraction & moves straight on building without error? of course without the prog files?

ok well i have not been am to reproduce the issue here... but i will continue to test... it is very weird...

AH! hang on a sec - have you renamed your nero-*.exe files? if you have this would be why... the cmd looks for nero-*.exe before it will extract... if you have changed it to say nero.exe then it will not extract.

No simply nero6608.exe

i had no idea Shortcut.exe was needed and i see plugin manager is now fixed, nice work.

do you have "nero6608.exe" exactly? i think it needs the dash in there, so you can have
nero-whatever you want here.exe

Dismissed that @ first as I had an underscore,the dash fixed it.

most of the time its the simplest thing that is the answer to be fair though, felix explained in his last post

i know you can use 7-zip instead of winrar, but how would i do that? also is it possible to remove the following files from <Program Files\Ahead\Nero> in the custom installer;

i have installed nero using this method.. when i open Wave Editor it says
"Required ActiveX Control are not registered. Please Reinstall Nero."

when i tried to enabe Image Drive it says
"Driver Installaton Failed"

any idea whats going on?

Ok 7-zip option i am going to build in a command line switch that you can use to select between WinRAR or 7zip. In the meantime you are welcome to change the !makeit.cmd file to suit your needs.

As for the removing of the other files - yep we can do that. Will be in next build.

as for uninstall options, it would be usefull to have it in add/remove, although a simple batch that just deletes nero and reg entries would do for me.

I haven't been on a Nero topic for a very long while... Didn't know people were so busy with this method! The script you are working on is great!
Now I have asked the original poster of this method (in Dutch forums) about Coverdesigner, you cannot start Coverdesigner from Nero Express/Nero Burning ROM, will give error Coverdesigner is not installed. (From Menu Start you can start Coverdesigner) I don't know if your script has solved this problem, the original poster said he knows how to and would post it sometime... so if he does I will let you know.

Also, I've read in vcBlackbox topic he had trouble creating non-compliant (S)VCD with this method... well I've never done that before... so don't really know how to fix that... if it has to do with Recode I assume it is fixed with your script.

anyways... if there are still some strange bugs, I'll see if I can help or ask the original man in the Dutch forums!

This can easily be done by a regtweak, will post when I found it.

About Imagedrive not working (driver cannot be installed)
Did you remove SCSI/RAID drivers with Nlite? That could be the problem. I will test this today. I also had Imagedrive in my package, but don't really use it... you might want to take a look at VirtualCD (made by CloneCD and original CloneDVD people).
But ofcourse the aim is to get everything working here... also Imagedrive!

I can't really help with Nero Wave Editor... I never use that tool, there are WAY better tools (search for the old Cool Edit Pro 2!!)... but it seems need some ActiveX thing to be registered...

no i havnt remove SCSI/RAID drivers.. i tested it in my current system w/out any updates/reg tweak/hack.. (almost clean install)



im used to wave editor.. i hav made hundreds of mobile tones using this...

using virtualcd & anoder editor needs another precious cd space i only have a cd-wr here & i want to take advntage of nero having this handy tools w/c takes less space..

The wave editor issue i have almost solved as with a few of the other bugs... will have a new update in the few days.

No iwod, not a bug, simply i forgot the change it from my path to the default %programfiles% path... see Mavricks Choice's comment below - he is 100% correct.

Hi all have been updating the change log information on my first post with fixes etc... i haven't posted a new version of the scripts yet as i haven't finished working through all the problems - namely the image drive issue. and i want to do some more of the stuff on my todo list first as well... stay tuned.

No worries - wasn't sure thought it best to reply Yes you do - it's a 2 part process. the first tell the script not to remove these items that is listed in the first part of the code and the second part part removes all of the items specified.


That seems strange will look at that and address the issue if i can find it in the next update. Check to make sure that shortcut.exe is being added to your custom_nero.exe file as something in the meantime.

the 1.1.2 version still gives me an error on ActiveX.. i look at ur post_config.cmd & found no lines of any OCX files..

so i decided to edit & add this code..



run makeit.cmd & install the custom nero, & the wave editor worked..

i wonder whats w/ the image drive bug..

slimzky, you didn't read what i wrote - i have NOT updated the scripts with the changes and fixes including the activeX error - am still working on the updates. Sorry i haven't made myself clear. I have fixed them and the fixes are part of the updates to be available in the new script when posted in the next day or so.

What you have added is exactly what i have done... so that will have your current scripts doing what you want. The bigest issue i have presently that is taking all my time on this is the image drive driver issue.

I have been updating the change logs so everyone knows that i am still working on it and things are getting fixed.

my custom exe is 135kb .. i'm guessing that isn't normal . rite ?

EDIT : looked at .cmd file. and it need the NERO.exe file to be in NERO-* .. i had mine at nero6608.exe

I originally developed this method as a speed issue. This method is much faster than the original installer.
Also size does matter

Ok people - finally v1.2.0 is available.... please test and let me know if you find any problems. I have done alot of testing on a range of machines already but can't test every possible choice.

There are some major changes to the !makeit.cmd file - instructions within and you should find it easier to setup now

I will be updating the first post with Q&A and instructions tomorrow as it is 2.10am here and i need some sleep....
