Ive finally gotten to a point where I need to start sliming down some things to get my image under 700 mb (yea yea.. i dont have a dvd burner..) and noticed that the photoshop source takes up nearly as much as mu i386 folder! Weighing in at 158MB I need to find a way to slim this down.. Ive tried simply rar'ing it up but even with WinRAR's best compresion it only got down to 130MB or something...

So.. anyone have a solution to slimming this bad boy down?

Thanks!
Astalavista
i tried to do this already but due to the already high compressed used
by adobe u can only save like 1 - 3 mb at most.
Alanoll
yeah agreed. It'd be cool to trim it down, but you'd have to physically remove stuff from the Photoshop install. The installation (and most other Adobe installs from the CS family) is HIGHLY compressed, and can't squeeze much more out of it.

****...

I don't use this software, but I have a suggestion for you guys. The installer is an msi, right? How about creating an aip, and shrinking it from there?
Astalavista
hahahahah

I only noticed Shrink Photoshop Cs Source?, ehem...Asta...ehem
keytotime
The Aip is huge for acrobat 7 it is 480 mb.
SiMoNsAyS
maybe after 7zip and optimizing the iso...
Astalavista
I tried something similar before and u save have a whopping 2 mb or 3 mb max over
the original.

LOL

The photoshop installation I have comes with Adobe ImageReady CS, which I rarely use... So if your on the same boat as me, perhaps look into removing that from the installation?
Astalavista
Now that sounds like and idea.

But when u install Adobe Photoshop CS it does NOT give u the option
not to install ImageReady w/c seems very strange.

In the event we cannot remove ImageReady. Maybe we can make a MST
file for Photoshop CS so that it will only install Photoshop and not ImageReady just a thought.

I've got my Photoshop CS installation down to 98.8 MB. I used InstallRite to monitor my installation then create an InstallKit. The subsequent InstallKit (.exe) installs Photoshop, ImageReady and the Eye Candy 4000 filters.

Give it a go. Using InstallRite is not a very good method if you constantly change or update the software, however I use it for Winamp, ACDSee, Adobe Photoshop CS and other programs that rarely update or ones that I prefer the older versions of.

InstallRite Download
Astalavista
Installrite is ok for applications that DONT hv a silent install switches.
Alanoll
Photoshop isn't a Windows Installer file though. Technically its InstallScript, so you can't make a transform for it.
totoymola
Really? Then if it's installscript, we can use the record mode and get the setup.iss. But the problem is still the compression, because we can't make an aip. Hehehehe.. I'm really curious about this software. I will try to borrow a cd from my friend so I can try it myself.
Astalavista
U hv friends??? lol
totoymola
Of course! Can I borrow your cd?? Hahaha!! laugh.gif
Astalavista
of course u can no problem when will be arriving in manila? LOL

I fit Photoshop CS, Dreamweaver MX 2004 and Office XP on one 700MB CD with Windows XP SP2 Int. And there were even more apps as well.
Just trim the bloat from Windows XP with nLite.

@galvanocentric
the problem isnt the size of the discs, i have a dvd, which contains about 3GB more then i need tongue.gif
smaller installer = less time to install/less disc space occupied tongue.gif

I fit WinXP with about 20 other programs on 1 700mb cd including office, nav2005, diskeeper, steam and slew of others ... whats your point? If I want to fit more apps on there I need to take space away from somthing.. and Im pretty sure my 250MB WindowsXP i386 folder is about is small as its going to get.

No point, just trying to offer some help is all.
No need to get snippy.
However if we're in for a measuring contest...
My i386 folder is down to a lean, mean 228ish. tongue.gif
But again... Not trying to annoy, was just offering suggestion.
No need for snippy.
durex
Sry... didnt mean to come of snippy (or maybe i did shifty.gif), regardless, apologies if it came off that way. It was real late, I was tired and posted without giving much thought...

no hard feelings and thx for the suggestion
Astalavista
the one thing that scares me about nlite is when u remove so much STUFF.

u never know when u will need those in the future.

or if a software some how requires a dll or etc file.

i am sad to say my xp is 500 mb and not 200 mb like yours. newwink.gif

LOL good thing i have a dual layer burner.
Swimming_Bird
i'm holding out on my DL burner till the media becomes a reasonable price.
Astalavista
yup media is expensive
