sad.gif I had a crack at using the same lines as per peoples previous lines for the Powerquest version, but it does not seem to work
1. you cant run through the msi package-it produces an error saying that you have to use the setup.exe
2. running through the setup.exe with " /s /v/qn" pops up a command window poining at my symantec antivirus folder, so i just terminate it there.

Anyone know how to install the new Norton version and possibly give the serial No as well???
Weed
sorry i cant help u right now
but whats the difference btw. the one from Powerquest?
mazin
Please, post the command line you used.
DTM.inc
this is what i use to get it starting the install, but it wont complete (the installshield tab will pop up in the task bar for a second and thats it)-

@echo off

title TEST, TEST
echo.
echo Norton Partition Magic
ECHO Please wait...
start /wait D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPartitionMagic\Setup\setup.exe /s /v/qn

EXIT
mazin
QUOTE (DTM.inc @ Sep 13 2004, 12:36 AM)
D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPartitionMagic\Setup\setup.exe /s /v/qn

Try this and post back:

CODE
start /wait D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPM\Setup\setup.exe /s /v"/qb REBOOT=ReallySuppress"
DTM.inc
Nup, I tried your cmd line & it still does the same-(starts but then bombs out soon afterwards)

Anymore suggestions????
mazin
Another suggestion:

start "" /wait D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPM\Setup\setup.exe /s /v"/qb REBOOT=ReallySuppress"
DTM.inc
No, still no luck. Same OL, Same OL
mazin
Sorry for that. Wish you good luck.

I've just emailed Symantec about this issue, so maybe they might be able to help.

I'll post the results welcome.gif
r4v3n
Any switched that work? How can you get the serial registered too?
DTM.inc
Still waiting for Symantec's reply, they first came back with a quick half arsed solution, so i gave them more info and they seem to be a bit stumped now.
I'll keep you posted newwink.gif
DTM.inc
While I've been waiting I thought i'd have a bit of a fiddle,
I have tried bypassing the setup.exe and going to the Norton PartitionMagic.msi
using this syntax

@echo off

title TEST, TEST
echo.
echo Norton Partition Magic
ECHO Please wait...
start /wait msiexec.exe /i "D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPartitionMagic\Setup\Norton PartitionMagic.msi" /quiet /qb

EXIT

and I get this message pop up-'To run a silent install you must either specify or overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation.
This setup will now end."

Anybody have an idea where to go with this???
prathapml
Yeah, some MSIs need to be called through the setup.exe alone, only then they work.

Anyways, if you could see what "setup.exe /?" outputs, and post that here, and any "setup.ini" that may be in the installer directory, there could be a possibility of what I was thinking. The .INI holds a few hints as to the switches to be used. newwink.gif
prathapml
UPDATE:
The command you're currently running - it causes setup to run, but setup fails. Since we don't want it to fail silently, (atleast knowing WHAT error is being caused would help) the below switch.

So, could you please use the "/S /v/qb" switch (note the capital "S") and tell what the error in dialog-box is?
Its very much possible that the solution is as simple as some file is missing or corrupted, and so couldn't be copied during install.

If even that doesn't work, use setup.exe with "/A" switch and tell us whether its able to successfully complete making an administrative install point. If the AIP is created fine, then we can discuss the next step. smile.gif

{LOL, ok mazin, don't laugh, you know my fad for AIP's here newwink.gif }
r4v3n
When I run it with
CODE
Setup.exe /S /v/qb

it says that
QUOTE
This MSI Installer needs to be run through Setup.exe

which I am doing. Seems to me that someone did a bad job at Symantec sad.gif If I run Setup.exe /? it says to run silently use /S /v/qn which does not work sad.gif

Both Symantec Norton Ghost 9 and Symantec Partition Magic 8.0.5 have the same behaviour.
CoffeeFiend
As much as I hate having to do that.... Sometimes AutoIt seems like the last resort...
buletov
...or why don't you simply use powerquest partition magic 8?
prathapml
@r4v3n
Please check if "/A" works (details in previous post).

mad.gif Using "/S /v/qb" just does the initial attempted start up, but fails with no dialogue box.

smile.gif Using "/A" I now have an AIP-woo hoo.

Am I correct in my assumption that your thinking is that now the setup.exe is out of the equation I can now run commands straight throught the Norton PartitionMagic.msi ?
prathapml
Yes, an AIP direct-from-MSI install should work properly if all went well. Did the AIP get created properly, without any errors?
If so, then just go into the folder where you told it to put the files, and run the MSI with "/QB" switch. Do post back, on whether it succeeds or whether there's still errors.

If so, then just go into the folder where you told it to put the files, and run the MSI with "/QB" switch. Do post back, on whether it succeeds or whether there's still errors.

I'm still getting this message running the /QB switch

@DTM
ok, so now we know what error it is showing. That's good.

These two lines here:
CODE
DotNetOptionalInstallIfSilent=N
MsiVersion=2.0.2600.0
Those lines have me thinking that maybe this application needs WindowsXP SP1 or higher, and the .NET framework to be installed. You could download/install those (follow the links in the previous sentence), and try the setup again. That might possibly be the reason - because, if you remember, Norton Ghost 9 needed the .NET stuff, to install and run properly.

Another thing, please edit your previous post - put the contents of the setup.ini within a [CODE ] tag (like in this post above). Otherwise, it becomes difficult to tell the difference between code content and your own words.
DTM.inc
Hmmmm, I have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed allready on XP SP2
DTM.inc
No-wait, I dont have it installed, its a bit of a glitch within my add/remove programs list (Its showing its installed but its not)
I'm currently downloading, I'll get back to you in a few ticks.
DTM.inc
no.gif Nope, I still get -

CODE
"To run a silent install you must either specify or overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation.

What do you think it means by providing your own implementation?
XtremeMaC
hey i've a suggestion
norton antivirus 2004 or systemworks 2004 had a similar thing
1 way to get rid of that error is to edit the msi in msi editor program and just get rid of the line causeing it. I'll dl the demo and post my results.
it should be fairly easy, should be on setup parameters to launch....
(this was the case on IntelliPoint software too...)
hoping it has a trial..
CoffeeFiend
It's always possible to fix the .msi file like that or to repackage it altogether, but I guess I'm too lazy for that laugh.gif Instead of spending 3 days on it, I spend 5 minutes to make an AutoIt script... Leaves me time to take care of other problems instead smile.gif Maybe I just give up too easily...
Riggs
Hi DTM.ink...hahah...funny name...

I can help you with Partition magic, Norton is too colplicated for me at this moment... unsure.gif

I tried out PM8 for myself, and i found that you can use a Registery tweak for it.
If you have allready installed and registerd PM8 on your pc, here's what to do:
Open regedit and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, look for Software,Powerquest, Userinfo, then export it to where ever you want as a *.reg file.
How to install it you can find this on msfn.somewhere...;-)

Funny name eh,

I'll give you 10 brownie points if you can guess what it means.
XtremeMaC
@Riggs he's already trying to install it that's the problem smile.gif
DTM.inc
Please Clarify for me - If I create an setup.iss file will it be only usefull to me on my computer? or will it be good for any PC I choose to install on?
blink.gif
prathapml
An ISS will be good for any PC you choose to install on, and other PCs too.
DTM.inc
Well, I think this might be the easiest solution to this dont you think?
That might be what is meant by
CODE
overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation

The .iss file might be the implementation
biggrin.gif
ganesh
just use this

ECHO Please wait...
start /wait %systemdrive%\install\Applications\pm\setup\setup.exe -s

make sure u have setup.iss file in the same directory

thanks saved me from playing with the msi smile.gif

ow btw are there any noticable updates and nice features in 8.05?
scankurban
Change or repack msi file with wise for windows installer.Install shield suck
MM_tank
Summary:

Run install with /r - setup.exe /r - its create setup.iss in windows directory

copy setup.iss to dir with pqmagic

run instalation with switch /s /f1"setup.iss"
example c:\instalace\pqmagic\setup.exe /s /f1"c:\instalace\pqmagic\setup.iss"

no registry or setup.ini modify needed.
skavenger
After reading all posts in this thread....

i've found my solution.

I have a folder containing the MSI-file, the setup.exe and some other files (no single setup.exe!)

start SETUP.EXE /r
install the App, give the serial and finish the installation
copy the setup.iss-file from Windows-folder (created by the /r-parameter) to the folder that contains the setup.exe.
now just start SETUP.EXE -S (setup.exe /s /f1"setup.iss" not working)
its silent. yeah.

Greetz from SkAvEnGeR
LeveL
Well you probably don't have to "give the serial" on the command line, forget that... just find the serial in the registry and as an addition to the bat file...

QUOTE
REGEDIT /S myserial.reg

Just put your registry code for the serial in a .REG file.

Or if its contained in a .INI or .KEY file or whatever, xcopy that file to the directory it should be in after the silent install.
skavenger
Nope,

by creating the setup.iss-file the serial is included after finishing install.
For that i not need to add any reg-file or something.

The serial and owner are included in the setup.iss

Six of one and half a dozen of the other if you had to create the extra file "setup.iss" to put the serial in. newwink.gif
