They both have switches /options to install without the media player!
I should have made my self clear ... the media players make the file sizes significantly larger. It's a waste of space to have a media player built into RealAlternative and QuicktimeAlternative ... especially when that media player is not going to be used.
ever heard of a DVD ?

Not all computers come equipped with DVD ROM drives.
Time to buy one then

Yeah, I'm going to spend money on all of my customer's computers.

no , but we advise it to ours

Thank you for the update
Same old issue that I've mentioned before , you know the one I stopped posting about.
Can't understand why it hasn't been resolved yet , specially since I've posted the resolve to it and it's only mild easy changes in the inf to resolove.
Happy at an update and little dissapointed at the same time.
Regaurdless , the update is greatly appreciated.
Until next update
Good luck and cheers.

The ico files used for the controlpanel icons were only 8-bit (=256 colors)
By the way:
Version 2.7 is out.
The new Xvid-files fixed some compatibility issues with DivX

Thank you for the update swgreed. (hadn't checked the pack out for a while, still to try it out yet)
It's a shame that CPL Gen doesn't support higher bit icons ,
Originally I replaced all them low bit icons in the cpls with reshacker...
But in the end I opted for one cpl called Codec Configuration.
When launched it opens my little floating customisable toolbar that has shortcuts to all my differant codecs cofnfiguration.
Dang my control panel was littered with 13 or so codec cpls from differant codecs I use.
Made the toolbar with AutoIt , after a couple months I now got it almost the way I want..lol
Toolbar now supports add as many shortcut buttons as you like (atm upto 30), add params to your shortcut , icons of your choice , user configurable transparency, option to auto close windows control panel (if open) once my codcconf.cpl is launched.
Mind you there's still some issues to resolve with it, once resolved I'll post it (can't give a time frame atm)
Cheers

I believe all the majority require is a codec pack that ensures whatever type of video or audio file they play, they won't need to download and install a codec. The inclusion of decoders and other bits and bobs is bloat for your average joe.

All the CoDecs provided by Swgreed can be freely used in a corporate environment. Most decoders are free.
As for QuickTime and Real Player. Technically the decoders are free for commercial use. But we are not legally allowed to repackage them from the original.
Basically, Real and Quicktime alternatives can be used in a corporate environment freely. The distribution of these alternative packages violates their licence. But having them installed in a corporate environment and not paying for them is not illegal

Ok - I don't have the time or patience to read 37 pages. I apologize for asking you to repeat stuff as I am rather certain that these questions/comments have been answered/replied to.
1. No LAME?!
2. I do a decent amount of encoding; will this pack be able to handle encoding divx and xvid? I'm rather newbish when it comes to how the codecs work and whatnot, I just use them.
3. Props on the codec pack. Your sig says 3.1 and the main post says 3.0 - might wanna fix that

If somebody would PM me a link/links to some good literature on what all the options in the codec configuration MEAN (I learn best when the guide explains concepts rather than "do this") I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,

No need to install: Just dont remove old Windows Media Player via nLite, rename mplayerc.exe to mplayer2.exe, modifype & cab it, then replace with mplayer2.ex_ in i386 directory

Hey m8 I noticed what could potentially be a coupla more problems with your inf plus I saw some room for improvement.
It installs faster with this inf and has a comfirmation box for the uninstall (no accidental uninstalls)
Please just look at it and give it a try.
There is still a little room for improvement I will polish it up more if you decide you like it.
I have liked your pack from the start and hope I can help improve it this way.
It no longer uses a variable for the codecs location, the inf defaults to the folder it is in.
Please ask any questions you want I know quite a bit about inf files.
They can do wonderfull magic.
Tested several x's on a live install and a svcpack style install.

A previous version of the pack has not been uninstalled or has uninstalled incorrectly. The file l3codecx.old still exists and needs removing prior to the new install.

So yeah, installed this via inf on an already running system (vista 32bit). All but l3codecx.ax got copied, but it still didnt work with wmp11 and mpc. So i looked for an uninstall, but couldnt find any

I also tried to manually delete the files but could only remove 15 or so files, and the control panel applets are still there but not working.
Suggestions?

Nov 19 2007, 01:45 PM
To be honest with you, I've no idea if this pack is VISTA ready and it's been a long time since I looked at the installation to know whether it can be improved in that regard.
Any attempt to change the pack too much would be reasonably pointless due to the existence of the Vista Codec Package already available here.
swgreed
Nov 19 2007, 03:19 PM
Right, a second "Vista Codec Pack" would indeed be rather pointless.
Maybe I should rename this one here to "MSFN XP Codec-Pack"

If you unzip the installer-exe (e.g. with WinRAR) you can easily find out, which files were added to your system32 directory. Control panel applets have an .cpl extension.
I guess Vista is really rather strict on admin rights. This might be the reason why it doesn't install properly...

Nov 19 2007, 03:19 PM
Yeah, i realized that after checking the Vista forum and its codecpack (which didnt work either, but that could be because of this pack still being in there)

But i havent changed the pack whatsoever :/

Maybe XP in the name would be better

I tried to remove the files (copy into system32, they stay selected, shift+delete) but Vista complains about access on some files, i havent tried safemode yet tho.
I ran the codecpack with admin rights too, no dice :/.. ah well, safemode it is hopefully.. Thanks for a great XP pack tho
