Hi Yzöwl,
I understood that we're player independant too... Isn't it??? i'm surprtised we are NOT.
Anyway, I prefer NOT installing QT player, Real player neither.
On the other hand, i would keeping WMP10 and associate to it QT and real. WMP10 will RUN instead of Real and QT (handle Real/QT files).
If i use yr codecs.inf and codecs.cmd files, what option do ni choose? 1 or 5???
What if...
I decide installing/adding a new player like PowerDVD, ZoomPlayer, LightAlloy, RealAlternative... ???
or
installing QT and/Real later???
Do i have to add/modify codecs???
Regards

The files are player independent, i.e. no Real Player, QT Player, mplayerc or Zoom Player etc. are included. There are files included for playing Real and QT in your chosen player. My previous comment about being independent, was due to an odd entry in the regs for Zoom Player, although it hasn't been removed in my inf, it will not come to any harm, but will be there if you ever do use Zoom Player in the future.
The files are set to use Windows Media Player, without modification. (just check it's location on your system with the location used in the editable lines at the end of the inf first.)
You need to choose option 1.
If you wish to add a player at a later date, don't add Real Alternative or QuickTime Alternative. They will only really install Media Player Classic on top of what you already have. You will just be as well off downloading, Media Player Classic yourself, it doesn't need installing, just put the executable wherever you want. To register it with all video files, start it, go to Options and check the box, 'all video'.
It can of course also be done in a similar way with any other player you decide to use at a later date.
Hope this helps!

Is there a way to tell if any of these codecs will conflict with themselves or the codecs that come with Windows? Some of these I know I'll need, others I am not so sure of.

If I'm installing Real & Quicktime Alternative, I don't need version 2.2, right?
So is v1.3 available for downloading somewhere?
Thanks.

I have 'tweaked' a v2.2 codecs pack to a 'v2.3' WinRAR self-extractor to include the xvid 1.03 files.
This can be run as a switchless installer OR the 'classic' method of placing the files in system32 as stated on 1st page of this topic.
If anyone is interested PM me. - Anyone care to host a 17MB file?

a self-extracting SFX would be nice. here's how i did it with last version:
create an SFX archive using this comment:
CODE
;The comment below contains SFX script commands
Path=%systemdrive%\WINDOWS\System32
SavePath
Silent=1
Overwrite=1
and run codecs.cmd afterwards.

You can run codecs.cmd using winRAR sfx:
Just add:
setup=codecs.cmd

Would it be difficult to modify the .cmd file to install only Divx, Real Player, and Quicktime? I'd love to go and delete what I don't need, but I don't know what I DO need

It wouldn't be that difficult
But you also have to edit the codecreg.reg
Just keep everything with "divx".

it packs even better with 7zip...I only know this because I converted the last version to inno setup using 7-zip compression/ultra and solid compression/ultra and ended up with a MUCH smaller file...I may do the same with this version and anyone that wants the iss file, Ill post it for them...but I havent decided, Im kind of trying to choose between this and ace mega codecs pack pro...I havent really decided which one I want to go with...I know ace is a lot bigger, but it has tons of stuff in it also...oh well, maybe in a day or so and after some tests of their installer ill make my choice.

I have created enhanced version with Windows Installer (MSI) for this Codecs. You only install it even with silent switches. Also you can choose whether to install QuickTime, RealMedia, Audio or Video.
This is much better and customizable.
Any suggestios?
// For example I can add Media Player Classic as optional component or smth else.
If you want I can upload it somewhere I have no hosting now.
The size is 16 Mb

thanks for this ankap. I would love to have media player Clasic included in the package

how do we chose what to install during unatandent install? how about registering codecs, do we still have to use codecs.cmd file?
ankap
Dec 26 2004, 05:47 PM
You don't need to register with cmd files. Codecs will be registered by installer.
For unattended setup use
Codecs.msi /qn PROPERTY1 PROPERTY2 ....
PROPERTIES are for remove
AUDIO=0 - For not choosing Audio Codecs
VIDEO=0 - same for Video
QT=0 - for QuickTime
RM=0 - for RealMedia
So for installing without QuickTime and RealMedia command line is
Codecs.msi /qn QT=0 RM=0
I want to wait for including Media Player Classic. Wanna have some other suggestions this is the first release.

A couple of questions...
Is the MSI installer up to date with the 2.3 version that swgreed has created? And will it register file associations with a default player? (ie: WMP10)
ankap
Dec 31 2004, 08:38 AM
@thegreypilgrim
Please try few times this free hosting is limited 25mb per hour.
Give another hosting I will upload there.
@DKRendeR it is up to date with version 2.3 it don't change any assiciations and if WMP10 is default it will remain. I can make an option to register file types but everyone has different players so it will not be right. I can integrate Media Player Classic and make an option to register file types to it.

ankap, thx for your great installer, but i have an idea: you thought about adding fileassociations, so you could start with wmp10/9. Almost everyone has it (if not removed by nlite), so u could add an extra switch to add or not to add them!
continue with your great work and write back and tell your opinion about it

edit: the default wmp file associations in the codec pack don't work for me, it only works for .rmvb files at the moment

@Ankap,
I need an msi based installer to deploy the codecs to several workstations, through a machine-based group policy.
Thanks for making the 1st msi based installer I found so far.
Unfortunately your msi installer seems to write to HKCU, which is no use for me since my package should be machine-assigned and thus HKCU will never end up with the actual users of the machine.
Is there any way in which you can modify your package to only use HKLM and still work?
My work-around is to use a msi-wrapper to call codecs.cmd and run the batchfile. This works perfectly, but a native msi based installer, with uninstall-capabilities would be best ofcourse.

Hi all
I have not much time but I'm doing my best.
I'm trying to find best way for file assosioations.
As for Registry - Some of them are in HKLM some in HKCU and they are used by codecs so if I change everything to HKLM they will not work cause some settings are per user and I think they will be created by default for the new user. Anyway I will examine what they are for.
