Can this codec-pack be executed within Win98?
good question, why don't you try and post any feedback here

Of course I had problems with the variables that do not exist in Win98 (%systemroot%)
& I also had a problem with
regsvr32, which I never tried solving...
I left Win98 for now, maybe I'll be back to it some day...

you can also rewrite thr codecreg.reg and integrate it im codec.cmd with the "REG ADD" command. But it won't give you any advantages...

10x for removing the XVID & DIVX installation, & returning to your old way...
I asked you once about MP4 files, that I can see but not hear...
I have a funny situation, i'll try to explain:
I installed today the latest pack, & I also have Winamp, but without Video (only Audio)
if I play the movie with it, I can hear it (of courseno video).
when I play it with other player, say BSPlayer, I get Video but no Sound at all...
On my Winamp I have the input plug-in in_mp4.dll, can't we use it?
any ideas how to find a solution for that?

I met this little filter, called
mpegable DS decoder...
Installing it make my BSPlayer play Video+Sound...!

You guys are doing a great work.

I just wanna ask if there is a reason behind adding WMV8DMOD.DLL, wmvdmod.dll, wmsdmod.dll, wmadmod.dll and wmspdmod.dll. They already come with Windows Media Player 8, 9 and 10. Also mpgaudio.ax and mpgdec.ax comes with Windows.
Cheers,

@McoreD
I don't wanna jump to swgreed conclutions, but my guess is that today, not every one likes the WMP...
this means that most of those users will remove it from the installtion, so they still need its codecs...
If you don't need them - don't install them...
that's the great adventage of swgreed's codec-pack, you can remove whatever you like... (or don't like)
McoreD
Sep 28 2004, 08:06 AM
I didn't think it that way. Thanks for the explanation MtK.
swgreed
Sep 28 2004, 09:37 AM
I personally don't like WMP, but watching WMV/ASF files requires the mentioned codecs, so the wm*.* files all carry version number 10
@McoreD: what version number and description does the original (windows) mpgdec.ax have? (it certainly differs from the original windows file, but as i never installed WMP10, maybe they also updated or changed the original mpeg-decoders)
So please post your results...
McoreD
Sep 28 2004, 07:00 PM
@swgreed: Sorry. My mistake. Although Windows comes with a standard MPEG1 decoder, it doesn't come with a standard MPEG2 decoder due to license issues. Therefore mpgdec.ax
doesn't ship with Windows. mpgdec.ax is the Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder.
mpeg2dmx.ax : Elecard MPEG 2 Demultiplexor 2.0.84.30429
mpgdec.ax : Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder 2.0.0.2525
As far as I can see, WMP10 doesn't update any exisiting MPEG1 decoders. SP2 for Windows XP, updates the quartz.dll to 6.05.2600.2180 which is used for decoding MPEG1 files.
Q: What does mpgaudio.ax do? Is it an updated version of
l3codecx.ax?
To me, mpgaudio.ax had no effect in my machine. Hopefully we can get rid of this file?
Here are the latest versions of Elecard decoders.
mpeg2dmx.ax : Elecard MPEG 2 Demultiplexor 3.1.165.40630
mpgdec.ax : Elecard MPEG2 Video Decoder 2.0.0.3611
I am all for making this Codec Pack THE best and most simplified codec pack.

about mpgaudio.ax:
i'm not sure if it's needed for DVD(Audio) Playback, but it seems the AC3-decoder does a good job
deregister it:
CODE
regsrv32 /u mpgaudio.ax
any watch a DVD. i guess if there's no problem, we can get rid of this file
McoreD
Sep 29 2004, 04:55 AM
With the AC3 Filter VOB (DVD) files are rendered as follows:
http://www.microsoftusernetwork.com/mcored...ors/kb-wme2.gif(VCD) files are rendered using the standard MPEG1 decoders that come with Windows.
http://www.microsoftusernetwork.com/mcored...ix/image018.jpgSo, yeah, we can safely remove mpgaudio.ax

Codecs 1.2
Somewhat stupid question, but when is the best time to run codecs.cmd?
cmdlines.txt? or wait until login and use RunOnceEx?
also, when you say you included a DVD decoder: does that mean that simply having your codec pack, and BSPlayer is ALL i need (for divx, xvid, and EVEN DVD's?!?!)

**beta-test**
Added QuickTime support, but it's still to be considered as BETA.
(RealPlayer will follow later!)
get it here:
DOWNLOAD (~10MB)and a little patch here:
http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?act=At...=post&id=202311QUOTE
Features:
- playes local and streaming QuickTime files
- QuickTime settings can be made in the Windows Control Panel -> QuickTime
QUOTE
please test the following and post some feedback:- QuickTime support within your browser (does QuickTime content play correctly your Browser. Please also test Mozilla, Opera, etc). QuickTime should play without the need to download some extra plugins. Try it for example here:
http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/insomnia.html- local QuickTime support with .mov or .qt files (also test various players!)
.mov and .qt files are not yet associated with any application, so you have to open them manually!)
Note: QuickTime and RealPlayer are quite tricky without an extra Installer

WOO! Works a treat in IE and WMP 10.
Thankyou VERY much for this. RealPlayer shouldn't be much harder.
I've tried doing this but failed with QuickTime... RealPlayer wasn't that hard though.
Again, thanks for this.
File associations would also be nice.... Could you do that based on media player? I've only associated mine with WMP, don't know about any others.
Edit: WMP will complain when playing a QT file and says it doesn't recognize it but might still be able to play it... That's probably because QT files aren't associated with it.
