WLM Creator (Windows Live Messenger 9 Creator) enables you to create a single switchless SFX that installs Windows Live Messenger 9 onto you PC. It can be used for everyday installs or as part of an unattended setup. The method used is based on the work of Shark007 and elajua and the original thread can be found here., so a big thanks to him and Shark for explaining how best to accomplish this..

To create the SFX successfully you need to have already downloaded and installed Windows Live Messenger 9 previously on your PC, this will ensure that the setup files will be located where expected. Using the program you can specify options for the SFX such as: title; icon; display level and compressions level. You can also include files that have been patched with A-Patch or MessPatch (Not available at time of writing) to add features or remove annoyances and choose from a selection of tweaks that will be applied to Windows Live Messenger 9 after installation.

The help file is extracted when the program is run and pressing F1 while the program is running will open it.

Good work
I've tested it for italian version.
Works like a charm! thumbup.gif

Thanks jinkazama, As I say it is only just starting off. I am looking at adding a few more things.
1. Patched files tab for files edited using the mess.be patch
2. A Tweaks tab that has various registry tweaks that can be applied to the msi or made into a reg file. These will be normal things like removing the minimize balloon tip that occurs when MSN is 1st run.
3. A tweaks tab for passport specific tweaks like disabling MSN today or showing time stamps in the conversation window.
4. A selection of icons found on the net that can be used for the sfx.
5. Extra gfx for the gui
6. Maybe translate it to different languages, This makes designing the GUI a bit of a ballache rolleyes.gif

Cheers.
jinkazama
I can do italian translation, give me english file and i'll translate.

benners now i've see that there'is no unistaller for windows live, is it normal?

It will be a while before I create a translation file, I want to get the GUI layout done first. WRT Windows Live, do you mean the messenger or other parts. I have tried again on a VM with an English version and I see and ARP entry for Windows Live Messenger, the size is 40.41MB, there are also 2 other entries for sign in assistant and upload tool, but they are made by their installers.

Thanks Gorki. it should make it easier for people to customise it.

@SlipStreamer
I don't use nlite but is there not a section for runonce that exes can be added to?. You only need to add the filename, no switches are required.

Hi Stoner
If it happens again can you post the log file. After the .exe is created a check is done to see if it exists and if not the error occurs. If it is a bug, it need fixing.

Ok m8 i made a mistake here. It does not make the .exe file at all (it was a previous one i made with the old creator) so i removed it just in case and remade the .exe which again it failed to do.

Ive included my log file for the process like you asked.

Yep not a problem, Just missing some quotes which bolloxed 7-zip if there were spaces in the filename. I have sorted that and I'll post the build later, currently looking at adding the option of adding DPs and emoticons to SFX.

Hey m8 ive had a thought.. this version of WLM needs Silverlight v2 installed before it will work now the current installer doesn't include this so wud it be possible to include the Silverlight v2 installer as well with this? I have the stand alone installer file for Silverlight v2 if you want it?

I've installed it and used it without Silverlight and haven't had any problems. Is there some were saying it is needed. As far as I know Silverlight is MS answer to Flash and it's for programming web apps\browser plugins for animation and such. The full version download has the Silverlight exe in it, it is not added as only msi's are added to the list. If it is needed I can add exe's as well and Silverlight can use the /q switch but you would need the 134MB d/l of the WLM

Ahh reet m8 ok no worries, the full version (134mb) says it needs Silverlight due to the video call stuff (i think?) anyay thanks for the info I install Silverlight in my system through the WPI (along with everything else) so no worries.

Does that give you a clue?

Found the problem: dw20shared.msi was missing in the .cache map. Found the file in a temp folder elsewhere.

It could be. I have only tested this on 32bit Windows ( I can't really support 64bit). I tried to use Virtualbox to create a 64bit VM on the 32bit system, I think it is supposed to be allowed, but when the setup process finishes loading all the drivers my machine always reboots, so I ditched that. I use reg.exe to export the reg file as it is quicker, but this could be changed, and I am not sure whether reg.exe works on 64bit. As for the buttons, again I am unsure, it could be the 64bit. Does the red cross at the top of the GUI not close the program?.

Can anybody else confirm that this prog is useless on 64bit?

Glad it's sorted. I have added a file check on the msi's as they are added to the list. If the missing MSI is a required one the process will stop. If it is an optional one then the list will load, the missing MSI will not be added and an error will be logged.

Hi Xeijin, thanks for the feedback. I did some testing a while back and on a fresh VM image I only needed the messenger and contacts to successfully sign in. I did not use any of the other features like video call etc so I don't know if there would have been any errors or if thats what the extra files were needed for. I used the guide by elajua to ensure compatibility and it mentions those msi's as needed so I left it like that. If you have no problems using WLM that's great and maybe the program can be changed to create smaller SFX's by reducing the required msi's.
