Thanks Strel. Everything seemes to work fine with the new version. You can look at my last attachment to see what files I processed but it's basically an up-to-date 1&2 addon for nlite. I added the .7z file after 60 or so other hotfixes, no problems there as someone earlier suggested. Windows update doesn't list it as me needed it.

It appears, atleast for my needs, that your latest version works perfectly. I haven't compared file versions or gone indepth to make sure all the hotfixes were applied correctly during the windows install but for now, I'll just assume they have.

I've also noticed that firefox .NET assistant update is missing in Automatic updates. Huzzah for who ever made that one happen. Was really getting tired of looking at it.

Thanks again for all the hard work.
madpenguin
FYI, my new nlite CD worked perfect. Did a format and freash install and only have the updates I intentionally left out. The new version of SNMsynth seems to work and do what I need it to do.

Thanks much.

I built 3.0 SP2+3.5 SP1 merged installers with exactly the same .ini file settings and with the same files in the work folder as you. Then I proceed to install and the error didn't appear. Can you check again even repeating the process or so?

Weird thing is when i run it from an existing installation it runs fine.
When I use it from HFGUIRUNONCE (I'm using HFSLIP) I get the error.

I compared the versions; mscordacwks.dll has 2.0.50727.3082 version, which should be at least 2.0.50727.3603.

I checked if 20SP2_KB974417FIX.mst was in the folder; affirmative.

I'm attaching PROCESSDATA.txt so you can check it out and point me to possible errors in my procedure.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I did another one incorporating what is said above plus a few changes; the result is still the same (see post #490). I'm also attaching the log inside OUT1 from this latest experiment.

Edit: I extracted the package and verified that the necessary files (newer versions in accordance with MS's description) are indeed inside, so the question is why aren't they updated in the Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ folder.
Glowy
There probably is something wrond in the KB971276 code.
I had to put WINXP=YES in the ini or the KB971276 updates did not get processed.
Starting up a VM installation to test if the file not found error dissapeared.
At least the file exists in the archive now (DNF30\XPS\update\update.exe)

SNMsynth 20091029 presents important bugs, I'd recommend you to not use it except for testing purposes. Hopefully will fix all bugs for the next verion soon.

thnx4thepen
What method did you used to install? Did you installed 3.0 from win setup? At what time?

zorro1
Thx for your help, I've found and fixed the 1.1 language bug, next version will handle it.

Sp0iLedBrAt
I'm not getting KB974417 in win/ms update after using an SNMsynth installer over an installed XP. Are you sure is that KB# and not KB951847?, because there's a bug with the second that I managed to fix, next version will handle it. In addition, the right files from KB974417 are applied both in my 2.0 SP2 installer and in %systemroot%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\ folder. Check this folder is removed when you remove 2.0.

Glowy
You said you need to set WINXP=yes in .ini file to make the script process KB971276. This sounds strange to me, I don't think it is related with target OS setting in the script, but new method for detecting host OS (which define target OS, in case .ini file setting is not defined) is being used with 20091029 SNMsynth, and though I'm confident with it, you should check it is not failing. The 2nd line after you run the script, indicates the target OS version for the installers being built. If you find any error on this let me know.

What method did you used to install? Did you installed 3.0 from win setup? At what time?

I simply run the installer created in a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox 2.2.2 Windows XP SP3 full updated).

I used only the "dotnetfx35.exe", the language pack and the updates.

PS when the procedure is finished I did clean the .\TMP folder
Glowy
When omitting the winxp=yes veriable the output is:

Checking .NET stuff to build installer(s)/addon(s) for ...

"net config work" returns "Softwareversie Windows 2002"

When I change the "TOKENS=4" in "TOKENS=3" in the OS detection part, it detects correctly, so I think it's a language issue
Because the english output is "Software version Windows 2002", there is an extra space.

There are bugs, I fixed those you mention, will be ready for next version soon. Don't use actual version except for testing purposes.
I could not manage to recreate error with XPS's update.exe file not found. I tried a RunOnce install but it installs fine.
It seems you're meaning that after you set the target os version through .ini file, this error don't appear but this doesn't make sense to me as thnx4thepen have the same error after setting target OS version from .ini file.

You better not use 20091029 except for testing, it contain serious bugs, wait for the next version, soon. What you search is Visual C 8 link in Supported File List section of the guide, I have to clarify it.

NEW VERSION RELEASED !!!

All bugs I could recreate are now fixed, and some extras added. See changelog.
I have not tested the behavior of SNMsynth installers/add-ons after removing VC runtimes and preinstalled them with runtime packs (in supported files list). Any info on this is welcome.

...in my test of SNMsynth, KB958484 doesn't have its files updated in .NET 3.5(files are still with build number 1), but entries are present in vs_setup.msi. I think you may applies *.msp earlier than NET35SLIMDOWN.mst...

If you're referring to files listed here, these files are not included in the cab file of KB958484.
About the .msi cache installers renaming, seems that finally I was right. It is required, yes, I see the same thing as you with frameworks installed I changed those values in registry and KB951847 fix still worked, but now, looking for the KB951847 not working problem inserted in 20091029 version, I found that what's failing was precisely this.
Curious.

As of 7-zip 9.07, you must specify the type during extraction of executable files. Otherwise it will extract each individual resource and binary section...

Later you added you were refering to x switch, but this switch is not used to extract the file partially, e switch is used instead. 7za.exe 9.07 beta is supported.

Running the 2K versions as silent installers rather than nLite AddOns appears (as far as I can tell) to work perfectly.

Files seem to be the correct version and Windows Update is happy, I only fired up one .Net 2.0 dependant application for testing though.

For .NET 2.0, the processing order is perhaps not optimal, but works fine:
NetFx20SP2_x86.exe
NDP20SP2-KB958481-x86.exe
NDP20SP2-KB971111-x86.exe Required for W2K

I've tested the 20091103_SNMsynth version: the pop-up again appear.

and the software that required .NET Framework 3.5SP1: Paint.NET 3.5 Beta (build 3591) run.

The only problem is this pop-up...

If I do exactly what you do, with the same settings (except compression-ratio) and the same files in work folder, the update and SP3QFE folders are appearing in XPS folder.

Do this:
Set the .ini file to process only 3.0. Open _SNMSYNTH.cmd and replace the line
@ECHO OFF
at the beginning, with
@ECHO ON
Open a command line in work folder and run _SNMsynth.cmd > process.log 2>&1 (I edited this command, use this instead, sorry)
Attach OUTPUT.TXT after process finish.
Revert line replacement.

Use latest version to do this.

May XCOPY not be available for some reason?

Hey Strel,

Thanks for the update, I will test it with Dutch files.

Question:
DNF30_MSXML6 and DNF30_XPS
The DNF30_MSXML6 one is on YES at this moment, and I have "msxml6-KB954459-nld-x86.exe" in work folder, is that what you mean with updated source?

DNF30_XPS, what exaclty is this? And it is at YES at this moment. (It wont harm installation ?)

(Building merged AIO btw smile.gif).

Oh about VC runtimes, I just put 2005SP1 and 2008SP1 together in 7z and made an silent .exe out of it, that I call before the dotnetfx AIO, shouldnt cause any problems I hope.

I inserted 2 wrong lines when reverting cached installers renaming removal of 3.5 SP1 from 20091029, and this seemed to be the problem. I was experiencing this problem but I though it was a problem with my engineering system as nobody was complaining even when I specifically asked about it, posts ago.
Thx a lot for your help.

Raoul90
Yes, this is an updated source, and as it is marked to be processed, it will update MSXML6 for 3.0 framework.

XPS (XML Printing Specification) is a printing architecture for printing natively XPS format, a somewhat similar to postscript or PDF vector document format from MS, that I suppose it is being integrated as a native format on printers (as postscript) and printer drivers is being made for it. XPSESPC (XPS essential pack) is the subcomponent annexed to .NET 3.0, it server as a framework for XPS printing drivers. You can update it with the ad-hoc hotfixes in supported files list. Obviously don't harm. Another 3.0 subcomponent, WIC (Windows Imaging Component) handle images for XPS format.

About the combined VC installer you made, this is exactly what RogueSpear's combined installer is (in supported files list). It uses switches to choose passive/silent mode. I tested with it the .NET without VC installers, and worked fine.

Is it ok to use just one package between Visual C 8 runtime from .Net Framework 2.0 and Visual 9 runtime from .Net Framework 3.5 package in your script?

DNF20_VC8_RUNTIME=NO
DNF35_VC9_RUNTIME=YES
strel
No, you have to use both if both .NET 2.0 SP# and 3.5 SP# are used.

Both runtimes are complementary and prerequired for their respective framework versions. You can only choose to install them from the .NET frameworks (outdated) or to remove them from .NET to preinstall them from external packets (updated for the files in VC file group of supported files list).

About this, I have not tested Code65536's nor Kel's runtime packs with SNMsynth installers/add-ons with VC removed. I suppose both are OK with this method, but any experience anyone have on this is welcome to confirm.

I can do it without errors for the same files.
It is a problem with your windows installer.

Try this: open a command line and run:
msiexec /unregister
then
msiexec /regserver
and then try repeating the building process.

If this don't work try reinstalling windows installer by running:
msiexec /unregister
then reinstalling windows installer and restarting
and then try repeating the building process.
mooms
Strel: with 20091104c no more errors on uninstalling 3.5sp1, but an error message appears when uninstalling 3.0 langpack.
No trace in event viewer, uninstallation is succesful anyway.
strel
What error? About not being able to uninstall? About not finding msi installer? About font cache (ShGet... or GetFont... or something similar)?
The 3.0 you have uninstalled with error had been built with the latest version or with a previous one and then you used a 3.5 of the latest?

Anyway if there's no trace I think you may even not find it again if you repeat.
I am not having this error.

Anyone else?
mooms
i just reinstalled (with a different build: all frameworks this time) in live system, same error when uninstalling:

in english : Windows Installer has encoutered an unexpected error when installing this package. It's maybe a problem related to this package. The error code is 2721

as i said it's not really annoying because the package will uninstall anyway.
strel
I cannot recreate it. I created a 3.0 SP2 installer with fr langpack, installed it, uninstall 3.0 langpack and no error is showed. Looking for the error reference, this reference means "Custom Action not found in binary table stream", that means that there's an executing action in the .msi installer database that doesn't find the built-in script it has to execute for this action, that's why I though any of the .mst (transform files, i.e. some of the fixes this method applies) that transform 3.0 fr langpack .msi installer, would had a bug, what's pretty feasible (too many files I've made), but doesn't seem to be the case, at least with the latests files I'm using.

Have you overwrited all previous files when you extracted 20091104c packet?
Can I have the uninstall log file? %TEMP%\MSIXXXXXX.LOG, check date and hour.
Can you attach .\OUT#\processdata.txt ?
mooms
Yes, i have deleted all files before uncompressing 20091104c.

it's a virtual installation of XPSP3 with an update pack integrated.

I have installed .net 2+3+3.5 @ T-13, tested an encoutered the error when uninstalling, then i have tested a other build, with all frameworks this time, installed directly, then uninstalled, same error showing as you can see.

I have attached both processdata.txt in a zip file, and all the log i have found in the temp folder is in this rar archive
strel
I don't see anything strange in process data.

None of those logs is the uninstall log we're searching. It should have the form of MSIXXXXX.log, mine has 417KB. Should be generated by 3.0 langpack uninstall, you can identify it easily if you go to the end of the log. One of the last lines should say something like:

(s) (C4:B8) [20:24:35:494]: Produit : Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2 Language Pack - FRA -- Suppression effectuée.
mooms
The only two wo MSIxxx.log files i have are in the rar archive.
Same content for both (i have uninstalled the langpack two times)
the content is:

QUOTE

Then generate a verbose log. Do this:
- Install 3.0 with its langpack.
- Open a command line a type:

Hi strel! smile.gif
I've guessed again! the problem was the Windows Installer: now I create with 4.5 version and ALL (software&update) ok newwink.gif

The only problem is the reboot of system: after installation of .NET , during the closure of the OS, freeze...

I've installed the .NET from desktop in a Virtual Machine OS: Windows XP SP3 full updated (DiretcX August 2009, Windows Installer 4.5 + KB958655-v2, Windows Update Agent 3.0 v7.4.7600.226...).

Thx a lot!!!
You helped me a lot finding one of the most slippery bugs I have had with this method. I dropped a wrong single digit in 30SP2LNG_KB951847FIX.mst causing your (and everybody's using 3.0 SP2 langpacks) problem.

What's happening is that it was failing to remove 1 regvalue used as KB951847 fix for 3.5 SP1 family langpacks, only in the case 3.0 SP2 langpack was the last langpack from this family to be uninstalled (tricky). But the error appears not only in that circumstance, because it is triggered when the script to execute is not found, whether it has to be executed or not.

What's curious is that it seems the error dialog is only showed sometimes because only sometimes makes the langpack removing fail (go figure), what's your case, or at least is what your log says, though you say you could managed to remove it successfully. That's not my case for example, though the error was in the uninstall log, it didn't make the uninstall fail (log says), hence didn't show the error dialog.

thnx4thepen

All the tests have been made with a "clean" installation: virtual machine was formatted and the OS reinstalled.

Windows Installer 4.5 + update has been installed via RunOnce.

Before install the. NET I rebooted the OS.
