Check in program files to see if it installed, and did you set your serial in config.txt?
HowdyDoody

The folder was there, but no files.
Yes, I put my number in.
Like I said: I followed your directions to the letter.

Nov 28 2008, 12:00 AM
Do you have the new NAR? If so uninstall nero and clean your temp files.
HowdyDoody
Nov 28 2008, 11:33 AM
I have all the current files. I deleted all of my temp files before starting over. Same results.
It did create the 'Nero' folder with a couple of empty subfolders that shouldn't be there at all.

NAR 1.2
Fuzed everything together.
Fixed acouple bugs.
HowdyDoody
Try the new version.

Nov 29 2008, 01:08 PM
Well, it's a step in the right direction, but no cigar.
It has the links in the start menu (including ones I did not select), but none of them work. I went to the folder and clicked on the EXE files. It told me that Nero was not installed correctly and to reinstall. So I did. Same thing.
For some reason, I feel that it might not be accepting the serial number. I wonder if it will work without it.

Nov 29 2008, 03:25 PM
What programs and languages are you installing, ill try and make an installer and test it.
HowdyDoody
Nov 29 2008, 04:10 PM
I'm installing English, Nero Express, Nero Diskcopy(?), Nero Burning Rom. the photo program(?). I think there is a couple more, but I can't think of them.
x-Shadow-x
Nov 29 2008, 05:36 PM
It works perfect for me.

Nov 29 2008, 05:42 PM
Do I need the quotes around my serial number?
HowdyDoody
Nov 29 2008, 08:55 PM
I started completely over again. Still failed. I tried to install it with setupx. Of course, that was manual install. It had my serial number correct. I got past that, and when it started installing, it failed halfway through. I then manually installed it from my CD. I thought something might be wrong with it. No problem. I give up. I might just do a repackager.
x-Shadow-x
Nov 29 2008, 09:10 PM
You do not need quotes around the serial. For the disc, does the installer unpack, or is every file on the disc?
aranmalo
Nov 30 2008, 10:42 AM
I also I give up, the installer works well if I install it manually, but in the WPI is not working properly After extraction the bar reaches 100% and closed the window installer WPI without knowing whether the program is installed and I do not understand why.
Thanks for your time and your tools x-Shadow-x
Greetings.

The files that NAR leaves in the working folder are still there when I install the MSI. Should I delete them prior to doing the install?
x-Shadow-x
Nov 30 2008, 03:56 PM
Dont put it into WPI until you have tested it on your computer first. Run the SFX and open the task manager, It will show it extracting, then the nero installer will open. Just remember, it takes a while to install too (15-20 min).

The MSI? There is an MSI for nero? Could you point me towards a download if there is one?

Nov 30 2008, 08:28 PM
Pardon me. I meant the EXE. I was working with another, as well.
x-Shadow-x
Nov 30 2008, 09:33 PM
Ah. Extract the nero installer, and run NAR, remove the stuff you want removed (Dont make an SFX of it). Then make a shortcut to setupx.exe. For parameters add.
CODE
/i SERIALNUMBER="xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx" EULAACCEPTED="1" INSTAPP="ALL"
And see if it installs.

Very very nice, my compliments for creating such a good tool.
But honestly, I don't understand why one would still stick with Nero. Both InfraRecorder and CDBurnerXP are mature enough as alternatives. No hassle installing, very small size, very intuitive interface like Nero Burning Rom. And with the same features.

Clean your temp files, then run the buggered Nero installation until it fails. Then exit the installer. Go to the temp folder and open these sub folders "nro.log\log". Now, there will be 2 files, you are going to open up one at a time and search and replace your serial with "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX" and save (For both files). Once you have done that. You can upload them to the site, or PM to me.
ZileXa
Thank you.
The reason people stick with Nero is because it is a tested program. People dont like using programs they never heard of.

And with the same features.
Not quite! Those 2 only seem to concentrate on data disc burning (which is admittedly the main part of what I do), and for this imgburn works even better IMO. imgburn has a couple shortcomings (e.g. no blu-ray support & no lightscribe). Also, some options are a bit "out of the way" so most people don't find them (like in the "Build" mode, "Advanced" tab, there's a "Bootable Disc" sub-tab nicely hidden quite deep; or how you have to create a cue sheet first to burn an audio cd -- not intuitive for most!)
Nero will do all this and WAY more... From authoring DVD stuff, reencoding videos, reencoding audio, CDs and DVDs of all kinds (bootable, mixed, audio, etc), has a movie player, will encode (and do basic editing of) videos in H.264, burns to Blu-Ray discs, does lightscribe, has a sound editor, a cover editor, and all kinds of other stuff. Others are still mostly playing catch-up with say, Nero 4 in terms of features (burns basic data discs and little more).
imgburn handles 95% of my burning needs these days (and at 8MB, it's a LOT smaller than any recent version of Nero, stripped or not). It'll probably get Blu-Ray support soon too.

I have tested a LOT of burning apps and I can say that none comes closer to Nero (for the average user, anyway).
- CDBurnerXP has quite some of bugs and needs the .NET Framework.
- ImgBurn doesn't support multisession, doesn't have an intuitive way to make audio CD's
- Ashampoo Burning Studio, both free and commercial versions have problems with *RW discs
- CDRecord (or CDRKit) based apps (InfraRecorder, CDRTFE etc.) don't recognize a lot of drives
Currently, I am using CDBurnerXP.

Not on topic but BurnAware Free works very well. Not to replace nero/roxio but it is very capable.
BurnAware/ImgBurn combo is great. For DVD authoring, there many more alternatives.
I will make a test with cmdow to see if i can repack nero with 7sfx.

That answer would be true 2 years ago, I sticked with Nero back then. Now I choose Infrarecorder cos it does everything I need from a burning program. You should check out the feature list. Audiocd, mp3/ogg/flac/aac whatever support. Mixed mode. boot cd.
I don't know about bluray, but reencoding is not a task I want to do with my burning app. Handbrake and Staxrip are much better for that. Also movie player and movie editing.. from your burning app

but if thats what you want infrarecorder is definitely not the right choice.

Everything *YOU* need from it, isn't the same as it doing EVERYTHING the other does! That's EXACTLY what I meant by "catching up with Nero 4" i.e. just got the basic burning stuff now (that's been in nero for like forever), and none of the other stuff (no matter if you actually want it or not).

Sorry, but it still is.
Mind you, I don't use any of those features myself either, but I know a lot of people who do. Personally, I'm happy with ImgBurn for most things (InfraRecorder probably does less, and at best, does nothing extra I actually care for)

I really like what x-Shadow-x, is trying to do but i have tried at least 5 times all i want is nero burning program recode and nero vision and all i end up with is nero control centre. No one has mentioned what OS systems they are using im using vista sp1 ultimate.
But really for now i use ConvertXtoDVD UltraIso and for basic burning Cheetah DVD burner in total about 20MB in total not 300+ download for nero. I would use nero iv'e allways liked the basic interface of the burning rom part but come on we are gonna have to start doing DVD9 with unattended vista with hotfixes and software, think i will go back to XP

I've made three packages, one with express, one with express and recode, and another with express, recode and coverdesigner.
Using Vista Ultimate SP1 x86 and everything worked. However, when i used the earlier versions of NAR (without the integrated, SFX and language removers, i ended up with smaller files).

Ive installed this version and it works great, no problems on this end.

They probably repacked the CAB's and used a good compression method (instead of nero's version of compression, None).
Edit: Just compressed the cabs, Haven't compressed the dll, exe's in the cabs though, got a size of 78mb's (from 200mb's to 78).
Edit #2: Just downloaded it, Its such a small size because its been repacked. I could make a version like that, but it wouldn't be customizable. You get what you get.

If you want something like that, just post.

I also have problems with NAR.
Nero 9 installation failed and rolled back.
So I try to install manually. Everything seems ok but then a problem occurred. Can someone tell me how to rectify it?
" The installation process cannot be resumed. A rollback of the failed component will be performed. Some application have been installed successfully and can be used. Do you want these application to be uninstalled? "
Click to view attachmentx-shadow-x, can u give me a NAR using the latest 7-zip compression?
and what do /i switch mean?
and what switch will give basic interface? I used /qb! for Nero 8. (I have changed /q to /qb but it still give no interface)

I know what the problem is rite now, I will fix it today (after I sleep abit).
The /I switch is for the new nero. I dont know why they have it but they do. And there is no semi interface, its full of silent.
7z SFX wont work with this, in the earlier posts we found that out.

Ok I need some help here. I know some of the languages on the list here but I need to know all of them in english. So if someone knows some of the languages which I dont, please post.

Known from top of pic to bottom
Chinese (Simplified)
Chinese (Traditional)
Czech
Danish
German
Greek
English
Spanish (Latin America)
Spanish
Finnish
French
Croatian
Hungarian
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Dutch
Norwegian
Polish
Portuguese (Brazil)
Portuguese
Russian
Slovak
Slovak
Swedish
Thai

My best shot at this:
Chinese (Simplified)
Chinese (Traditional)
Czech
Danish
Dutch -> nope! German
English
Spanish (Latin America)
Spanish
Finnish
French
Croatian
Hungarian
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Dutch
Norwegian
Polish
then your list is a bit messed up I think (an extra line somewhere), I think (not 100% sure) the next 2 are:
Portuguese (Brazil)
Portuguese
Russian
Slovak perhaps?
Slovak maybe?
Swedish
Thai
Turkish

Ooo, thank you very much mate.
Ya I kinda messed up on the last couple.

Well, you cant actually use the two Slovak's as a default language. Have not seen where you can even use them in nero yet.

To remove an app, you remove two folders: the unit_app_XX being the app itself, and if it exists unit_hlp_XX (the help for it obviously):
- 1: InCD
- 4: Nero Burning Rom
- 6: Nero Express
- 5: Nero CoverDesigner
- 10: Nero PhotoSnap
- 12: Nero Recode
- 13: Nero ShowTime
- 14: Sountrax
- 15: Nero StartSmart
- 16: Nero Vision
- 17: Nero WaveEditor
- 19: Nero DriveSpeed
- 20: Nero InfoTool
- 21: Nero Rescue Agent
- 22: Nero BurningRights
- 50: Nero Disc Copy Gadget
- 57: Nero DiscSpeed
- 64: Movie Templates - Starter Kit
- 71: Nero Live
You also always remove unit_app_75 (NeroAskToolbar)
Others (might not be present):
- 2: Nero 3D Studio
- 3: Nero BackItUp 4
- 7: Nero Home
- 8: NeroImageDrive
- 9: Nero MediaHome
- 11: Nero PhotoSnap Viewer
- 18: Nero CD DVD Speed
- 30: Nero ProductInstaller 4
- 49: Nero Move It
- 51: Nero Mobile
- 53: SecurDiscViewer
- 56: NeroTest
- 58: Nero LiquidTV
- 63: Nero ControlCenter 4
- 73: NeroRadioGadget
- 74: NeroLiveGadget
- 75: NeroAskToolbar
- No numbers: Nero ScratchBox, Nero SoundBox, Nero AudioEffectLibrary, Nero Container, etc.
These infos brought to you by your neighbourly hex editor and setupx.exe from Nero 9 (search for <NERO> or <FAMILY name="Nero"> to view the full XML)
Edit (for the sake of completedness):
Seemingly you can just remove the extra language files (in subdirs) as-is, without breaking anything. Same goes with "runtime" folders, like unit_tpi_directx-9c-redist-d3dx9-30, unit_tpi_vcredist-x86-2005Sp1 and unit_tpi_windows-installer-3.1
