However, they may decide to change the numbers later on (or add/remove some), although they just might be lazy and keep on using those too.

Ideally, an app would search for the XML inside the installer, dump it, and use data from it to strip optional parts out... It's not really complicated, but it takes time to write an app that does that (along with a fancy GUI and everything else).

I don't use Nero 9 personally as v8 still works fine for me (along with imgburn), so no plans to ever work on this. I might upgrade eventually.

Could you please add text labels for the language check boxes? Since I'm a blind screen reader user, I'm unable to tell which check box refers to which language.

Well, twice i make a SFX file (with Nero 8 and Nero 9) and i have the sames results, doesn't wok for me sad.gif. The error that appears is:

I am already downloading the newest version of Nero 9 (version 9.2.7.3 i think if i remember very well smile.gif). I will try with this version..

PD: Again, your job is great!!. I looking for a applicattion like this for very long time and finally i found it. smile.gif

Can you upload bigger image and on some other site. Site is to slow and picture is to small, it can't be read. Now, latest version of Nero is v9.0.9.4d. Download it and try with it. This tool will not work on Nero 8, it is only for Nero 9.

It looks like setupx.exe is corrupted. Re-extract the nero installer and try again. If it doesnt work. Try downloading the newest Nero 9.

Hi all again.

I don't know for that reason the image can't see ... xD. The error is: "SetupX.exe:Critical error in installation of Nero Please contact support.
Message: SetupX.exe:there was an error while extracting the UI images. Exiting the deployment process. Error: Esta acción sólo es válida para productos que estan instalados actualmente (In english Error: This action is just for products recently installed."

Hi all again. xD

Finally, doesn't work for me sad.gif. I think that the problem is in the Windows. I hope tomorrow can make a format the hard disk and i will try again.

PD: 20:32 PM, the truth is the EXE of Nero 9 is damaged and fail on the normal installlation package.

Update
NAR 1.2.3
Fixed Default language selector.
Added a select all/unselect all button.
Added blind reader support.
You now cannot go past the maximum number of charactures for the serial (so there is the exact ammount).
If you mess up on inputing your serial, you can now re input the serial without it erroring.
Added another application to remove.
Fixed the commandline, error with serial.

Please download this version, lots of bugs fixed.

The first and second languages are Chinese (simplified) and Chinese (traditional).
If you want me to list them in English I can.

ok, i'm using Nero v9.2.6.0 with NAR 1.2.3. I only keep Nero Express and English language.

I got the same error as MillenX @ post #91.

Running Nero Express is ok, but I can't uninstall it from Add/Remove programs. I was forced to use Nero General Clean Tools to remove the residues.

If you hade a previous install of a nero 9 slim version, you would have to run the cleaner, The older version mucked up some stuff.

The other dude is, when i edit the package of Nero 9 with your program, i delete all the utilities than less "Nero Recode 4". Then, when i try to install the modified package creates with your program, it allow too "Nero Burning ROM", "Nero Express" and "Nero Gadget" ... unsure.gif. If i deleted this components, why appears this components anyway?

Well I have just found some errorors in NAR. I will fix it as soon as possable, I hope it will fix some of these errors.

First delete your nero log folder (XP: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\nro.log\log). Then remove all the apps/langs you want, right before you build the SFX, open "Config.txt", where it says "Setup=Setupx.exe /i /q" put this LOGLEVEL="ERROR" after it.
It should look like this now. Note: There will be alot more then the bottom code, this is an example.

Setup=Setupx.exe /i /q LOGLEVEL="ERROR"

Once finished, save. Now you can build the SFX. Once it has finished building, run the installer. Once it errors, exit the installer and go to the temp folder (XP: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Local Settings\Temp\nro.log\log). There will be two text files in there. Open up the bottom one, it should have only a few lines (Depending on the error 5-30 lines) It should only be a few kb (1-5). Copy all of the lines and paste it into a codebox in this thread. Ill see what I can do.

If it doesnt come up with anything (which it will, it always does, Fixing that rite now) instead of adding LOGLEVEL="ERROR", add LOGLEVEL="FATALERROR". Just remember to start from the top of this post. Delete the log folder...

Right now, i am thinking that i never use your "Extractor" because it always give an error for me. For this, i execute the installer and then i copy the "Nar.exe" into the directory of Nero 9 and run it. I think that this is the mistake.. maybe ... xD

Anyway, i will try with your answer and so soon i will tell you, editing this post.

Yes, that would be the mistake. You dont double click the extractor, you drag the nero installer onto the extractor icon.

that happens when I drag the Nero 9 installer onto the the Extract.exe. all in the same folder.

I am on Windows Server 2008 btw.

EDIT: I have extracted it with 7-Zip 4.62 portable. thanks anyway

I just tried NAR 1.2.4 and Nero 9.2.6.0 to make an installer for Express and Recode, English and Spanish (AL).
It didn't worked on a clean Vista installation. C++ 2005 Redist was installed.

The SFX made by NAR extracted and started setupx but it didn't install it. I tried making a repack with 7-zip without any luck. Maybe the command line parameter are wrong or something but setupx doesn't install nero.

I have the same error sad.gif, for this, i extract the files of the package from the installer and not from your extractor.

I don't know that i can do..

I'll try with the new version.

notice- I do have used the NAR application (published here).. removed every single application,
to remain only with Nero Burner (the base product), also removed every LAN. (keeping only english).
the result do got a lot smaller (about 100 MB),

post factum:
seems that the install just got corrupted by NAR:

1. task manager showed setupx and the compressed sfx file for couple of minutes
but no files were installed on the computer, nor registry values were writen at the end of the process. sad.gif

2. the single exe didn't work so I've deCompressed everything to a folder and run the command line for setupx by hand,
the removal of the "/q" let me notice that indeed the setup process is running the the product of nero is installed,
somehow the result (even when I keep looking and monitoring the process were still a corrupted installation).

in my opinion the AUTOIT script of NAR should be updated to those values... (latest version)
or, some products should not be removed by the user cause those are crucial the the whole process,

pity...
perhaps anyone has idea about a products that should remain in order the installation process to succeed.


FYI everyone this is the RAW xml from the setupx execute file,
it starts approximately at 33C7E6, you don't actually have to you a HEX-editor,
you can simply open setupx.exe with Notepad2.0 (not windows notepad...)
then simply search for "family" (no quotes).

Ok, I removed some code which might be messing it up. If anyone would like to test it, here is the link.
Note: The installer will be abit big with this beta, It will be fixed once I find out what is causing the errors.

@Shadow Thank you for this interesting tool. I tested some earlier versions but they didn't work for me. The latest Beta seemed to work fine regarding the processes in task manager during installation. I could see that there was a new folder in program files which has been gone after installation. So there might have been a rollback during installation progress.

Maybe you can see something in this log file?

On line 22 to the end, it can not install file associations. It also errors with unit_app_4, unit_app_6 and unit_app_15. As you said, you used an earlier version of the tool. Have you cleaned files/registry with nero's General Cleaning Tool? If not, that might be your problem. Could you tell me what apps/languages you removed. I will see if I can replicate the error.

@ x-Shadow-x, file associations is another matter wacko.gif And a major job even if you only install nero burning rom and nothing else all nero file associations are there even though its' just nero that is installed.

Hi again. I have the same problem. When the percent of the instalation come until 68, the program allows me a windows with an error and then, close. Why? ¬¬

The exactly the same thing happened to me. That's why I stopped trying to build a silent installer using NAR. I thought I was the only one having problems, not seeing anyone else confronting with this issue, so I didn't say anything.

I used Nero 9.2.6 straight from ahead ftp.

Another thing. At one point I was able to build a silent installer, and I could see that components list, but after just selecting nero, the installation hanged.
So something is definitely wrong with your app.

brilliant tools x Shadow X! i used them both although i found the Extract tool didn't work for me, it kept giving me a pop up error, however i noted you said you could use 7zip so i did and that worked fine. i've "slimmed" down my nero 9 virtually everything except Nero Express (i'm assuming you can't strip out Nero Burning ROM). but that still comes out at around 141MB i'm using Nero 9.0.9.9b by the way. what do you do to make the installation footprint less than 70Mb?

Thanks mate. What would the popup error be? Maybe I can fix it. The footprint was less then 70 when I used 7z for the SFX. 7z SFX doesnt work for this though, it runs setupx.exe and prematurely deletes the files.

i can't remember what the popup said as i then went on to install 7zip. incidentally since installing7zip and then trying out your guide to drag the nero 9.exe over to extract.exe, a 7zip dialogue pops up with a progress meter indicating it's extracting, however at the end, there's no folder created with extracted files inside. what (seems to*) work for me is separately installing 7zip then extracting the nero executable into a folder then running your tool. so far with just nero express left in - everything else removed - the SFX is 140Mb

*haven't run the SFX as i already have a copy of nero 9 installed. but have checked the archive and seems to be ok.
