diesel_98a
then there is something else that is disabling the system restore. did u choose not to install it, maybe?
XL-DJK
Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard of THAT problem happening when applying those switches.maybe the install file's wonky? corrupted download? unsure.gif

I am getting the same error during the unattended installation. I have since removed MP9 from my ISO. Installation works fully no errors. Gotta be something amuck with the MP9 setup.

Just one more comment; I have started using VMWare Workstation 4 (not related to anyone in this company!!!) and it is definitely a workable program. Before using this program I was dishing a lot of CDs (coasters). Now I test all my ISOs prior to burning them. Itīs worth the shelf price.

Havenīt tried Virtual PC (I hear it is fairly good....will try it later.)

I have a question that may somewhat clear up the problem, are you attempting to install MP9 on Windows XP Home Edition?
OldMan
Aaron,
I am trying to install it on Windows XP Professional. It worked fine when I installed it through the batch command. I started getting the problem when I moved it to the svcpack.inf and try to install it from there. I am now using the RunOnceEx.cmd with the cmdlines.txt and all the other .cmds and the only problem I get is with WMP9 mentioning the system restore is disabled. As a workaround I can continue the installation and then reactivate the system restore after setup.......

Wooaaa,,,just had a thought,,,,,there was a hotfix for the Blaster Worm that needed system restore disabled...this hotfix may be the one disabling system restore and WMP9 setup catches it. Hence, when I remove WMP9,,no error.
More to come......

well that could be it then. did u run the rollup slipstream, i believe that patch is part of it. i didn't have any problems installing the rollup that required disabling system restore.
Aaron
Doubt it has anything to do with the rollup. I've been unable to re-produce the System Restore error that the few people here get - with/without the rollup, and using either the WMP9 download from MS, or the OPK.
OldMan
Aaron,
Are you installing WMP9 with a batch file? As I mentioned earlier, I can install it with my batch_file.cmd, but seem to get the error when I try to install it as part of an update in the svcpack.inf.

Aaron
I used to run this from a [GuiRunOnce] batch file. But now, I run this from svcpack.inf - as its more convenient having 2 apps in one. No problems either way though...
OldMan
Aaron,
I have made a screen capture of the error I get during the 13-minute stage of XP Pro installation. However, being a newbie at this, I have no clue how to insert it to this reply blushing.gif

I would most definetely appreciate any guidance,,,,,thnx.

Amigo,
I just read your last post and I see where the problem may lie. I am running MPSetupXP from the svcpack.inf and not the WMP9_MM2_opk (not available in Spanish). Will create a batch and load it that way as I have installed it this way previously. Will let you know the outcome.

Aaron,
Found a Spanish version (WMP9_MM2_ESN.exe) dropped it into update folder and updated my svcpack.inf. Have gone past the 13-minute stage of my ISO installation and no restore error. This fix is good for me!!!!! Thanx for the help.

The Old Dude

I found this OPK in Microsoft OEM Site Builder home page. I am sure it is available in other languages.
Aaron
Good to see the problem go away newwink.gif

Nobody has been able to figure out why the System Restore message only appears on some systems. Will probably remain a mystery for a while!
sTe
I disabled system restore through system properties.

When I tried to install WMP9 I too got that message about it wanting system restore enabled, and was I sure I wanted to carry on. Basically after some hunting there is an extra command you can use... this is what I use:

WMP9.exe /C:"setup_wm.exe /Q:A /R:N /DisallowSystemRestore" /Q
