Under Win7 build 7048 I did the following for my iPod Touch:

1. DL iTunes x64 from Apple and extracted with Winrar
2. Installed the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.MSI
3. Installed Quicktime Alt 2.8.0 (put compatability add-on on but probably don't have to)
4. DL the Switchless x64 from the front page link and installed
5. Ran iTunes
6. Plugged my iPod Touch in and good to go!

elajua, thank you very much!
I wish to ask, is this possible to install to directory different than Program Files\iPod? I unpacked the installer and tried to install through .msi, but the installation has ceased immediately blink.gif

The iPod service installs in Program File\iPod. iTunes default installation folder is Program Files\iTunes.

You can try to use the INSTALLDIR parameter to change the default iTunes installation folder.

Run something like this: itunes.msi INSTALLDIR="C:\Program Files\My iTunes" /qb /norestart

Hi just want to say great work with this installer, and many thanks to all the developers' who have invested their time and effort to making alternatives to annoying appz like Quicktime and Realtime. Apple are no better than Microsoft, in fact in many ways they are worse, when they force us to install so much unnecessary rubbish and try to monopolize the market. There is so much greed within these corporations. I received the iphone as a gift, so had to install iTunes, but was determined to find a way to not install Quicktime.

For those who are still unsure, this is is the order you install the software:

1. Install Quicktime Alternative lite 2.80
2. Install Itune add-on 2.70 (I understand this is now not necessary with the 2.80 version of quicktime alternative, although I did install it and it did no harm)
3. Install the Switchless iTunes
4. Install AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (if you have IPhone - to acquire this file, download iTunes from the Apple website, and extract the contents using WinRAR or 7zip)

hope this helps.

Sounds like you've done a great job!
Unfortunately I'm unable to test it, since I can't find the 7.7 version anywhere sad.gif
Shark's msfn repository root is forbidden as in 403, and I can't find previous versions on Elajua's website.

Can they still be obtained from somewhere? anywhere? newwink.gif

Many thanks in advance.

For some reason I thought the 8.x versions of iTunes were only compatible with 2.1+ iPod Touch/iPhone software.
Seems I was wrong, though smile.gif.

I was already "pretending" to run firmware 2.2.1 on my iTouch through the FWChanger app (while I'm still running 2.0.2), and your iTunes 8 version works like a charm. So yes, I can finally confirm you did a great job!

Thanks for the hard work, and sorry for bothering you.

Cheers,
Robin.

I don't plan to make one, but you can see if the MSI setup for Mobile Support installs other things. If it doesn't, you can make your own SFX installers.

Maybe i will take look at it but i don't have the time to test properly.
hannubys
I will do that

I will do that

You can extract the switchless installer you are using and add the Mobile Device Supporty MSI and repack it to use one installer only.

Hi guys!

I need to know how to install iTunes switchless to another partition than C: ? Because C ist my system drive, I don't want to install any third party programs there (these go to partition F:).

Thanks in advance

ajua
You can extract my installer files and run itunes.msi TARGETDIR="F:\iTunes" to install it there or in another location.

Does anyone still have a copy of the English Switchless installer for 8.1.1.10? I'd much prefer to use that version for now.

iTunes 9.0.0.70 has been released by Apple.

Errors on iTunes Switchless 9.00.70 sad.gif

“Apple Application Support” is required and “QuickTime 7.6.4 or later” is required. FYI, “QuickTime Alternative 2.9.2″ only has “QuickTime 7.6.2″ sad.gif

Any solutions? Please?

I've the same problem of ZeTaBYTeS, hope that an update of Quick Time Alternative will come out soon.
ZeTaBYTeS
Check out http://codecs.freeforums.org/itunes-9-t1846.html Don't know if that's the official QuickTime Alternative forum or not but it's worth a try. Anyone knows how to contact the developers of QuickTime Alternative?
ajua
Just be patient, it will come out soon. The developers are usually fast to release new versions.

I don't know if that's an official topic/forum of QA, by the way...

I get the following error:

"Apple Application Support was not found.

Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.

Error 2"

I dunno if this is related to your installer, ajua, but I thought it worth mentioning.
eksasol
I also mentioned in another similar thread. iTunes 9 now require AppleApplicationSupport. You can install it separate, you will find its AppleApplicationSupport.msi when you extract it from iTunesSetup.exe package.

I also mentioned that the current version of QTAlt is 2.9.2 and only has QuickTime 7.6.2 files, while iTunes9 required 7.6.4. Therefor if you want to use QTA you'll need to wait for an update. Edit: new version of QTA is available.
Nadeem97
I get an error saying Non-7zip archive whenever am trying to install the current version.

this is the first time this happens ( been using those installers since v6 ), and i redownloaded the installer for like ten times and no joice.. whats the catch?
mulrich
So, I installed QT Lite 3.0.0 Beta 2. Now I get a completely different error. It is telling me I'm missing WebKit.dll, and that error message is then followed by another error message, telling me iTunes wasn't installed correctly and that I should reinstall it. I've tried this to no avail.

I don't know if something is missing in the QT Lite beta or in ajua's installer.
willydejoe1234
I have it installed and running ...
1º AppleApplicationSupport.msi which is in the original installer itunes
2º installer qtlite 3.0.0 beta 2
3º installer itunes of ajua

everything works well
mulrich
That did the trick.

In other news, a new version of iTunes is out. 9.0.1
ajua
I'm finishing the iTunes 9.0.1.8 installers right now. I will include Application Support in them.

Also, I'm making just one installer for x86 and one for x64. Making English and Multilanguage separated takes
some time I don't have much right now.

I haven't tried QT Lite 3.0.0 Beta 2 but some guys sent me mails saying that it is working so far.

You need to install Mobile Device Support if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone.

I use this version of iTunes with my 4th gen iPod nano. And before that, my 2nd gen nano. I haven't used Apple's own iTunes since I had my mini.

I was finally able to do this. Here's how.

First you need winRAR or 7zip to fully extract the installer (I tested this with iTunes Switchless 8.2.1.6 English.exe). Use winRAR/7zip to extract the installer package to another folder (I used C:\temp\iTunesInstaller).

Next, drop to an admin command prompt and change to the directory you extracted the package to. If you type "DIR" in the command prompt, you should see this:
CODE
Directory of C:\temp\iTunesInstall
2009-10-12  12:56    <DIR>          .
2009-10-12  12:56    <DIR>          ..
2009-10-12  13:12         4,826,112 itunes.msi
2009-10-12  12:56    <DIR>          Redist
2009-10-12  12:56    <DIR>          Program Files
2009-10-12  12:56    <DIR>          Application Data

Now execute the following line, substituting the iTunes folder and iPod folder to where you want them to be.

itunes.msi INSTALLDIR="D:\Apps\iTunes" IPODINSTALLDIR="D:\Apps\iPod" /qb /norestart

This doesn't work for me unless I also add the /qb and /norestart options!

After installation, there's still a tiny bit of apple contamination in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple but it's only 20MB worth.

Where to get the last version of it?

And if i underatand right so there is no point to install this version + apple mobile device support cuz the original version will be the same?

I was thinking to install this version to avoid too many services in windows.

Well, my installers are customized to not run iTunes helper and the iPod service at startup, among other things.
Besides, without them, you would need to install the original QuickTime. If you use my installers, you can install QuickTime Alternative which is much much better.

If Mobile Device Support (remember that it is not needed for regular iPods, only iPhones/iTouchs) install services, you can set them to manual startup so they will be ran on-demand and not at every system startup. I don't know if it installs services, though.

Yes, it does install 1 service and while it can be set to Manual, it's not convenient if you have an iPhone and connect it to the computer on a regular basis. When iTunes starts it does NOT start the mobile service automatically like it starts the iPod service. It just complains that the iPhone cannot be managed because the mobile service is not running. So you'd have to start the service manually and then start iTunes or have some bat script that first starts the service and then iTunes. If you use an iPhone on a regular basis I don't think it's a big deal to have the mobile service running at all times or even install the full bloated version of iTunes. I started with QT Lite, iTunes Lite and the mobile services install, but I wish I just installed the full version instead and just disabled a couple of services or set them to Manual.

Needs more 64-bit.

ajua, are you working on the latest version? Remember to include at least Apple Application Support since iTunes simply won't work without it (hurray!).

Also, QT Alt 3.0.0 final has been released some time ago. The latest iTunes will NOT work with 2.9.2.

And before anyone asks, no, I have no idea how to actually do all this stuff.

I see your point, but I think that the majority of users have iPods and not iPhones. Having said that, you can sitill use my installer and install Mobile Device Support and set the service to manual to see if iTunes starts it.

Just browse the installer file with 7-Zip and right-click on it. Then select Open Inside and you should be able to see the contents of my file.
After that, you can extract the file(s) you want by drag&drop and using the Extract button.

I tested with 7-Zip 4.65, BTW.
